Title: QUAD SCRAMBLE #3 MYAKKA CITY- SUGARBOWL!
Post by: mudnuri on November 06, 2006, 07:23:02 PM
Oh boy! http://www.floridatrailriders.org/cgi-bin/ikon3/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=9;t=5254 (http://www.floridatrailriders.org/cgi-bin/ikon3/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=9;t=5254)
26 days until the next challenge of endurance and skill. Those of you who finally got a taste know why XC riders get so pumped up before an event.
I must say, the little riders are pretty neat to watch. Or maybe it's watching the parents watching their kids? Good fun.
The utility class looks like a LOT OF FUN, too!!
Those of you who want to check out this course before the QS can go to the HS http://www.floridatrailriders.org/cgi-bin/ikon3/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=6;t=5256 (http://www.floridatrailriders.org/cgi-bin/ikon3/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=6;t=5256)
But that would give you an edge...  :N
Start prepping your machine now
See you there!

BUT MAN can't wait till the next,   it was nice to see so many atv florida forums guy out there this past race...

Looks like I will put my 15 tooth on for this one.

I'd be careful believing what "they" are telling you.

Well talking about broken parts, I saw some play on the axle when I was lubing the chain, I thought it was the carrier bearings, but surprise surprise, the bearings were OK but the carrier is broken >:(, oh well, I should have it fixed by Saturday I need a lot of practice, this kids on "B" class are smoking fast, I need to get my wore out muscles back in bussines  ;D

And I don't know about all that drag racing talking, a lot of times they say that and all you find is tight woods I like them both so it shouldn't be a problem, I'll try both "HS" and "QS"

See everyone at the track
Luis C.

Quick question. Are there usually a lot of quads that go to the HS? I am thinking about going to the HS but don't want to be the only quad out there. I would like to see how I stack against the competition if you know what I mean? Thanks for the help in advance.

Title: Re: QUAD SCRAMBLE #3 MYAKKA CITY- SUGARBOWL!

There were around 40 entries for the HS and nearly 200 for the QS
If want to see how you "stack up" you'd be better off going to the QS.
Either way you'll have fun. I will add that at a QS, all you see is quads. It is really cool!

The reason why I asked is because I went to the first QS in Orlando for the "fun run" and man the course was so beat up that it almost killed me. I tried it out to see if I wanted to do the series and I almost said no because itwas that bad. Then someone told me that the course was much nicer the weekend before during the HS because it was more fresh. I just figured I would check the course out in the earlier stages before it is all chewed up. If there are enough quads going out, I think I would go to the HS to get a chance to run a fresh course. Does that make sense?

Yeah, but understand that if you go to run the December 2nd quadscramble the track will be probably rougher than before when you run it in the HS.

It is definatly a good practice though to get a feel of the track.

But remember, you only get a trophy at the end of the day in the HS. No points race.

I should be there.

Please do not judge what is to be by that first event.  ;) They are all TOTALLY different. Different part of the state. Differnt terrain.
I think you'll be surprised. Go to the quad scramble. It is for quads and you will not be sorry!
I'm going there this weekend to help and will let you know what to expect. Plan on Dec 2nd if you want to see how you stand against the rest.

at least at the qs races your around nothing but quad riders.  at the hs you'll have to put up with stubborn  bike riders that look down on us. i dont mind the rough tracks, long drives, entry fees, etc..   i enjoy getting out there and being with down to earth guys and gals looking to take this sport further than anyone could imagine. im just glad i have some races that are less than an hour away from me.  hope to see everyone out in myakka, parrish, orlando and sweetwater.

Well now that you put it like that, I guess it would be nice to be surrounded by nothing but quads. I guess I have a little time to prepare so I will make the most of my time and get the bike ready. By the way Mudnuri, keep us posted on how the track looks. Thanks

Im not sure how wide you are or anything, but if you are over 50inches.. You might want to see what you can do to bring in the front.

I dont know about your rear either..

I know that sometimes I even have a hard time squeezing through some of the stuff out there.

Hey Everyone,

I just want you all to know that my family and I are members of SADRA, the club that is putting on the next QS in Myakka.   As we speak, the trail is being reclaimed, and while y'all are stuffin' your bellies with Turkey and all the trimmings we'll be out at the property bustin' butt to make sure that the track is in the best of shape!!  We intend to re-route whatever we have to, and both of the afternoon classes will be running the "Sunday" course as well as the general track that was run for the HS (with necessary modifications of course).  So there will be new stuff, I promise!!   ;)  If you are a seasoned racer, or you want to come out and try it for the first time, DO IT!!! You won't be sorry!!!  There will be pretty cool t-shirts too!!!
See Y'all there!!!!

Chuck, you were flying on Sat. good job, it was a nice track, tight woods, water, bridges, and some fast areas, can't wait for the QS, good job, and great job Amanda, taking all those guys out of the mud, now this is a hard working woman !!!

Hey Luis, thank you I tell you what I followed chris #44 for about 3 and a half laps until I went over the handle bars at that simple white sand jump hee hee! It just caught my rear tires and bounced me over O well But I learned alot by racing with him. This is the guy that has been kicking our butts. He is so smooth with very few mistakes.

I want to say sorry to Amanda if I sprayed her with mud while she was pulling the quad out of the creek..

I came up to the crossing and there was about 6 quads sitting there, none in my class one guy looked at me and said "try it if you want" I thought to myself... im not going to sit here, I have to catch someone!

Anyways, I went and it was a bit off camber and almost got stuck and I think I may have roosted Amanda.

I pulled the holeshot down the straight, but the guy on the LTR just powered passed me.. I couldnt believe it.

Anyways, I was in second for about half a lap then got my tire caught on a tree.. I was so dissapointed. I never caught back up with anyone except one person putting me in 7th, where I stayed untill the race was over.

I came through second lap and saw I was 24 seconds behind the person in front of me.. then I came through and it said 55 seconds.. I have no idea how that happened, but I was pulled off which was not cool because anything could have happend in that minute.

I guess I was just used to running the two hours and wondering why I was getting pulled.

That track was awesome though!

See everyone at the QS dec 2nd!!

The track was blast!!

I got stuck in that same spot Fred...I went for it - lol!! It cost me lots of time...I think I was in 6th then so you were not crazy far behind. Once I got out I knew I had to try to make up the time I had lost!! I got to do a fourth lap but missed the cut off time at the end  :-\ Oh well...it was an extra lap and extra seat time!

SO looking forward to the QS  ;)

See everyone there!!

Jen

That's ok Fred,
Originally I was pulling people out with a tow strap, but when our Quads get that suction effect, it was more than my little strap could take- it snapped.  Well, the next best thing was to do it by hand.  Yeah, I was pretty muddy, and trust me, you weren't the first to roost me, and certainly not the last!!! It was so much fun!!! ;D

Man, I hate that I missed it. I was loading everything up Fri. afternoon and giving my bike a final checkup when I discovered my lower ball joints were wore slap out. I just put the A-arms on in July, doesnt seem like they should be wore out already.  New ones are on there way and I'll definately be at the QS.

Here's an update from the FTR Prez Randy Faul on what we have to look forward to this weekend:

"As promised, the latest on our quad event.
Those of you that rode the benefit race know how much fun the track was, so in keeping the fun factor job #1, we have laid out some really nice trail for you guys. The mileage is about 7.5, which consist of a bunch of new woods trail, fresh/virgin areas that we didn't use at the benefit. We also found a brand new piece that we just worked today that was hidden, it's sweet. We added some really neat hill climbs that our lady quad rider found and a new bridge that eliminates any water crossings, that means the water crossing before the finish is gone.We had to use some of the old trail to connect to the new stuff, but, the landowner has completely graded almost 80% of the trail we are using, so no whoops or chop.It will be on the fast side overall, but it will bring a smile to your face. Plenty of areas to air it out and pass with no bottle necks.
The cook house will be open Friday evening/night for those who need their services, with burgers, dogs, fries, drinks, strawberry shortcake to tie you over until Saturday when they fix the big meals . They will also have breakfast with bisquits and gravy, eggs, bacon, grits, ect. Coffee, tea, and sodas.
Just a couple things for the weekend.
The benefit event was on their best behavior and has really impressed the landowner, so lets follow in the footsteps already made by keeping our pits litter free. We were unable to obtain a dumpster, so please be prepaired to take your trash with you.
As the forecast calls for some rain Friday, it will be a blessing because right now it is on the dry side, so we need the rain. We already anticipated getting some rain so we laid the course out with that in mind, we should not have no mud holes or swamps.
We will also have T-shirts available with kids and lady sizes.
Gates open at 4:00 pm Friday with food being served until 10:00.
This will also probably be the best quad scramble you will go to, please come and enjoy it."

Y'all come on out and support the Quad Scrambles series, it's gonna be a blast!

For all of you that were at the HS in Myakka....

The big water crossing is gone, the 2 crossings that we went through in the back section are still there, the front water crossing between the start and the gas stop is still there, but all three of those crossings have filled in some with sand.  The one that Fred was talking about where some quads got stuck where I was at filled in some when the landowner graded out the field.  As Randy said, we were able to bypass quite a bit, but with only one weekend, there were some places we had to reuse.  You guys won't be disappointed, I promise!!!  See you there!!!

RAD 700R: You should be able to make it in 3-3.5 hours from Broward, depending on which way you go.

450R: You could ride the Beginner 2 class, for riders with little or no Scrambles experience. Check out the FTR website for info about number plate colors/letters, you'll also need a tether.

He is my brother. I have been trying to get him to try a race ever since my first race. This one is close to home and he is going to give it a shot. I told him that you either love it or hate it. I hope he likes it so that I have someone to ride to the races with in the future. This will be my 7th race, 3rd this year. Lets race.

Oh, hey chillin', Cool.
We will be doing ourselves a huge favor by bringing at least one friend (or relative) to join in the fun. If everyone did that the clubs would stand up and make it happen.
If anyone wants to actually make one of these events happen, pm me and I can help you help the sport.
Here is a link to see some pictures.
http://ftrgallery.us/gallery/Myakka_Quads (http://ftrgallery.us/gallery/Myakka_Quads)
I'm telling you if making one of these events wasn't fun there would be no events. It starts by joing a local club. It isn't hard or anything. You don't have to pay crazy dues. You don't have to do some weird chant. You have your meetings at the races. You discuss what, when, and how you all are going to make your race. Then you meet at the property established and divide the milage up and go to work. So that in itself is a challange to make the best sections. This takes several weekends and whenever you can. Theres way more to it you can get involved with.
Something to think about when you are at home wishing you were riding. I joined this club after having hardly anywhere to ride. I figured I'd be a part of something bigger and more organized to help maintain riding rights. Joining the largest off-road club in the state just seemed like a no brainer. Then you join AMA. The nations watchdog for you and your machine. With all that came these races. Joy! After my first one, I heard angels singing and began to puke. I was hooked. This is fun Always seems whenever I ride with anyone it always turned into a race anyway.  ;D
See everybody Saturday!!

Couldn't agree more. My first race ever and I finished 12th in the C-open. Ate a little too much dust this race and now my throat is paying for it, not to mention I am feeling a little tight today and I have got blisters on my hands the size of grapes! All in all I had a great time. I can't wait for the next race because I know I can do even better the next time because now I know what to expect. One of the main things I discovered doing this race is, try your best to get the holeshot! Happy racing everyone.

I also would agree about the race it was GREAT. The track was awesome and I have never been on a nicer piece of property. It was also great for spectaters.

I want to apologize to whomever I slammed into in the first turn. I was second off the line and in the first turn whoever I hit was just outside of the fence post. I tried to go to the inside. I hit my front brakes and there was nothing there. I slammed into whoever it was and our quads got locked together. It took 4 people to pull them a part. After that I was like great, now I'm in last and have to run everyone down. Somehow I managed to take second.

I sure was a great race !!! nice turn out, the numbers are growing after every race, 200 riders this weekend, we have to get more and more riders and make this even bigger.

No more races for the rest of the year, it will give us some time to get ready for next year!

A big thanks the Sarasota club that set up the course. It was great! All I can say is only one quad per narrow bridge. ;D Thanks to the spectators that pulled me from the water. It was so dusty by the time I saw the bridge it was to late.  ???

You plowed into the back of Willis Pledger. You only get a piece of wood if you win. Not worth riding beyond your abilities for. I believe it broke his carrier and knocked him out of the race.

That was an awesome course! As soon as I figure out how to get the helmet cam video on the net, I will post it.
Somebody else plowed into the back of Mike Taylor while he was stopped on the side of a wide open field. Knocked Mike right off his quad and messed him up a bit. He is worried about the guy who hit him as he was lying on the ground for 10 minutes in pain.

Luis said it, 200 entries! Jan 27th is the next one. It will be at the same property, but all new trail.
I hope to see you all at the next one and bring a friend!

Great! Let us know when you do. I have been telling my friends about it all day and now I think I have two more guys coming to the next one. Look out for #23c-open because I am going for the gusto and leaving it all on the course!!!

The track was awesome, some really nice parts where you could really open it up, Especailly where the dry lake bed/Muddy sawgrass was towards the back, I know I was flying, the bridges were cool too.  Looking forward to the next one, All new trails, I think it will be tough to top those off.

Yeah, I did read where you said you had no brakes. Did you lose your brakes in the first turn or did you line up with a faulty ride? And I'm not ragging on you or anything. Don't take it the wrong way. S happens in racing for sure, but you have to wonder why no brakes into the first turn to take out a fellow racer? BE CAREFUL WE ALL HAVE TO GO TO WORK COME MONDAY  ;D  Just don't want anyone hurt for some stupid trophy. Including you TRX450. Just want us all to be able to come back. If you knowingly have a faulty ride, you should not run or at least not all out.  :N
You guys at 1:30, I am loading the videos of the first turn now. The helmet cam is going to be a while, sorry.

Brian,

Thanks for video taping and sharing the 1:30 starts.  Good job with the camera!

I can't believe that nobody took any still pics or did and doesn't post them.  I myself don't have a digital camera yet or even a regular camera for that matter, but I am looking to get one.  I want to get some pics of these events to keep for myself and to share on the web.

Be patient over the scores. They will be posted soon.
Pictures? Remember this a totally volluntary club. If you bring someone, have them take pictures and please share them. I have always tried to take some and so do some other riders, but it is hard to do that and prepare to race. I have always wished there was more pictures of the ATV's, but nobody shares them. I shouldn't say nobody, some do. Most who are there snapping away never share them.
I really wish more did, but they don't. So in the future, please assign your crew/friends, to snap some AND SHARE :)
Thanks for the thanks, Kenz
Here are a couple pictures someone took with my camera. I wish there were more.

Were there really that many? Anyways, great riding everyone and lets get even more heads out there for the next race. I already got two more going and the wife and kids are coming as well. I am ready to put the smackdown on the next run!

LOL! The scores are not up yet. You are bypassing going into the keeptrack system as the scores are being prepared for everyone. Just be patient.  :)

Glad to read so many had fun and bringing more to share in the fun!
Luis, so uch was happening in such a short amount of time, I hardly had a chance to even say hi. Jan 27th seems like such a long time to go until the next race. Maybe we should meet up at Hardrock and then convince Keith to let us camp at his place!

Hey Brian !!! We will be riding at Croom a couple of times between now and that race, we could also go to Hard Rock that's a nice ride, or get a weekend with Croom on SAt and Mulberry, Bartow or Quick Track in  Lakeland on Sund. I'll keep you updated

Sounds like you guys really enjoyed the sugarbowl event at Myakka. Sadra is mostly a m/c club, but we have many quad riders that came out and gave us a hand. Our club always prides itself in our quality events, with this quad only scrambles race being only our second event, it really came off as probably the best one this year. We will also be giving the SAQR a hand in there coming event in January. This will be another event that you don't want to miss, as it will be totally different with all new trail. We had 203 riders at our event, lets set a new record with more riders than that.
P.S.- Our H/S in Feb. will be on brand new property in Sweetwater, come be the first to ride it.
