Title: truck tire's ?
Post by: rubicon500kid on November 03, 2006, 05:05:59 PM
ok i just got a 1990 bronco i payed for it already just have to wait for my dad to get back from over sea's to go with me to get it in his name. (he sent me the money to buy  it since i got all b's on my report card and i wanted a muddin truck too)

Now it needs new tires soo im going to lift it any ways and will wait till i put the lift on it to buy new tires  now im geting a 6 inch lift and a 3inch body lift.
What size tires should i put on it?  im leaning for 38" tsl or 36" tsl

It sucks have to pay for insurance & gas on both a bronco and a tacoma

Before going over 35 with a TTB front end you better do an SAS. They are nowhere near strong enough to be wheeled with a 37 38 or 39 and so on size tire.

6" ttb lift will be expensive first off and not strong enough to be running 38"s. do the sfa swap first, a danna 44 bolts right up. my buddy knows everything there is to know about 4wd on broncos and ford pick ups. hes doing a 4wd conversion on an f-150 right now with all 1 ton running gear. hes got a set of brand new 38" tsl w/brand new rims i think he might want to sell. he is 20 but looks 12, he is super goofy

i dont know if you have gayspace or not but if you do then maybe there is some gayspace way of communicating with him. he could answer any questions you have about lifting your bronco or swaping in a sfa

a straight axle will not just bolt right up! There is alot of work involved. I had a 84 f150 and was running 38 - 12.5-15's tsl's on it. no problem with the TTB front end. You should be able to get a 6 inch suspension kit with the drop down brackets for under 500.00. Comes with blocks in the back. new shocks etc. The TTB frontend is still a dana44 just like the straight axle. same ring and pinion. if you keep the ttb just make sure all the joints in the axle shafts are good.

I'm with Wilburz... Run the 38's with the TTB front end. With tires that size, if you wheel it hard enough, your gonna break a 1/2 ton 44 solid axle front just as easily as a 44 TTB. And with mud trucks it will break.. they always do. Roll with what you can afford and save / start buying heavier duty stuff for a later SAS. My $.02....

when your switching out front axles theres always going to be a lot of work involved. like i said my buddy knows it all. i should have put i think or something. i know there both dana 44's but im preety sure the sa is stronger in some way. think he said the dana 44 bolts right up. he does this stuff all the time so he probably says bolts right up like it easy because he doesnt think its hard when he does it. anyways he is selling a 6" ttb lift with everything except new shocks. it was used for a couple months, i think he only wants like $100, let me know if you want it

No, you are right. The SAS is going to be stronger. But my point was, 38" tires on 1/2 ton running gear will break parts regardless of solid axle or TTB.  So he's better off running what he can afford now and saving / scrounging up at least 3/4 ton parts for the eventual swap, versus doing the swap now with a 44 (1/2 ton) solid axle that will more than likely break with the 38's anyway. It's too much work to do the swap to put in 1/2 ton stuff that's gonna break almost as easily.  I say play with what you got, and start looking for at least Dana 60 stuff if not Dana 70. Whatever you do, have fun with it, especially if it's not your daily driver.

38's with 3.55's will not be fun in the mud. you can forget about 4HI. is is the 302 or 351?

you must not know how to drive if your breaking a D44 in so-called Florida "mud"

also, have any questions on SAS lemme know... i WAS goin to do the SAS with 9" coils, and lower the upper coil bucker 3", but i want to go bigger and run 44s, so im sellin all the SAS stuff and runnin D60 up front and a F350 10.25 in the rear. I might have 38.5x16x16.5 tsls for sale if your interested... only been mounted, never driven on.

You sure you want to be wheeling/bogging your daily? Especially if you're a cash strapped student. Might want to just go with something mild until you have the means to go bigger, or fix stuff. I won't race/bog/wheel my daily. I learned the hard way. Bumming rides stinks. lol

you must not understand the full benifits of a solid front axle... dont get me wrong, TTB is the best IFS out there, but they handle like a wet noodle on the road.  the over all benifits of the ONROAD handling and tire wear were more then enough for me to consider a SAS.

the tires- i have a buddy that called me today who wants them... so ill let you know if the deal falls though
