Title: Re: Diesel powered arctic cat Post by: Chuck_Norris on October 19, 2006, 10:14:36 PM thats perty cool. the first one says its naturaly asperated, i thought that a turbo was neccisary on a deisel? they are not necessary for the diesel to run, the early model diesel engines that Ford had like the 6.9 IDI and the 7.3 IDI had somewhere in the neighborhood of 195HP and 250lbs of torque in 1993-94 Ford installed the Turbo's on the 7.3 IDI("T") This was also the transitional year for the 7.3 DI (direct injection) which came with the turbo set up as well. It is slow as hell but will pull with out a wimper. I am planning a getting a turbo for it though. That is crazy they are making a diesel ATV. Would be great if you had lots of pulling to do around a proplerty. I would but one once we find our house. I could run it on veggie oil or Bio. (lammbo/perkins/kabota) Mostly for military use. MPG and running on a world wide fuels. Veggie/bio would only work well in warm temps. Most are low compression (for a diesel) so they can run on very poor quality fuels. PS. "Fords" diesels are all IHC products with bolt-ons to make them fit in a E/F chasis. The 6.0 was pushed out the door with very little R&D time due to emmissions deadlines. The 6.0 can make over 600 hp but at that time the head bolts start to stretch. 6.9 & 7.3 are hardly stressed at OEM specs and are good for about 330,000 miles before rebuilding. |
