Title: Re: Some Big Cypress Pics Post by: sk8r_dude on January 06, 2005, 04:56:22 PM coming out of one of many holes
Title: Re: Some Big Cypress Pics Post by: sk8r_dude on January 06, 2005, 05:03:08 PM Trail marker but don't count on them all the way thru. Concho Billie is 31 miles one way in and one way out. GPS as important as gas. Getting lost is very easy and likley unless you are familar with the trails.
Title: Re: Some Big Cypress Pics Post by: sk8r_dude on January 06, 2005, 05:07:15 PM Wildlife is everywhere on this days trip saw 6 deer and many other types of animals and birds
Title: Re: Some Big Cypress Pics Post by: sk8r_dude on January 06, 2005, 05:12:20 PM Many diverse trails from swampy cypress to sandy pine trails, but always a lot of water. 2 wheel drives, I wouldn't recommend it.
Title: Re: Some Big Cypress Pics Post by: sk8r_dude on January 06, 2005, 05:15:22 PM Like no other place. They don't call it Big for nothing
Title: Re: Some Big Cypress Pics Post by: T2 on January 06, 2005, 05:20:04 PM Thanks for the nice pics. And I agree with Flbaster that is alot of gators, So I guess they don't bother you when you are on a quad. I just never have run ins with gators.
Title: Re: Some Big Cypress Pics Post by: sk8r_dude on January 06, 2005, 05:32:57 PM The start of Concho Billie #3 trail head. Permit is required.
Title: Re: Some Big Cypress Pics Post by: sk8r_dude on January 06, 2005, 05:36:42 PM All trail heads are gated and locked so don't try and get in as only permit holders have the combo. Permit is $50/yr this is cheaper than getting a ticket for trespassing on federal land.
Title: Re: Some Big Cypress Pics Post by: sk8r_dude on January 06, 2005, 05:45:15 PM My standard warning about BC. Do not take this place lightly. I have been stuck 23 miles in from the nearest trail head at night in 2 feet of water. When ever I go I am prepared to spend the night in case of a mishap. Extra fuel, food, water, dry cloths, GPS with topo maps of the park trails. The park has a 24 hour emergency line assuming you can find cellular service which is a big maybe. Have fun but be careful.
Title: Re: Some Big Cypress Pics Post by: shadow on January 06, 2005, 06:10:50 PM WHERE EXACTLY IS BC? I KNOW BLUE CYPRESS. LET ME KNOW.
Title: Re: Some Big Cypress Pics Post by: 02YamahaBigBear400 on January 06, 2005, 08:40:16 PM great pics. i've always wanted to go out there. from the looks of the cypress trees it seems to get pretty deep in those spots.
Title: Re: Some Big Cypress Pics Post by: sk8r_dude on January 07, 2005, 08:23:30 AM If you look at the water lines on the trees, you can see that in the wet season it can be waist deep. BC is located in Ochopee between miami and naples on US 41 west of the seminole indian reservation.
Title: Re: Some Big Cypress Pics Post by: big-daddy on January 07, 2005, 03:57:08 PM are you using two way radios on the motorcomm headsets ?
Title: Re: Some Big Cypress Pics Post by: jackinthebox23 on January 07, 2005, 04:07:37 PM sk8r, I live in Kendall and am always looking to ride BC. If you're ever up for some extra company, let me or the website know. Maybe we can get a big ride going out there.
Title: Re: Some Big Cypress Pics Post by: sk8r_dude on January 07, 2005, 04:14:15 PM Yes, I have the 4 watt midland radios mounted to the handlebars with the push to talk button by our left thumb. Speakers and mic are mounted inside the helmets. The wife says that the only chance she has to not have to talk to me and I installed these things!! Seriously, it is really nice to be able to talk to each other on the trails. Not to mention, if we get separated I can always be in contact with her after all, I have the GPS.
Title: Re: Some Big Cypress Pics Post by: sk8r_dude on January 07, 2005, 05:20:18 PM It would be great to go riding with some other people from the site at BC. A while back, the Grizz and I organized a ride but we were the only ones to show up. We rode the entire Concho Billie trail start to finish that day. If anyone else wants to go the first step is getting your ATV inspected and getting your permit. Check out the BC website for information. BC only issues 2000 permits each year and that includes quads, swamp buggies and air boats.
Title: Re: Some Big Cypress Pics Post by: blueyfz450 on February 23, 2005, 06:54:42 PM WOULD LIKE INFO ON HOW TO GET THERE,I HAVE A 26' INCLOSED TRAILER WITH SPORT QUADS WANT TO TAKE WIFE & KID FOR OVER NITE STAY PLEASE CALL CHRIS 954 205 4939
THANKX Title: Re: Some Big Cypress Pics Post by: sk8r_dude on February 24, 2005, 10:21:20 AM I don't think sport quads will pass inspection at Big Cypress. Further, with the water and mud I don't think it will be the best environment for you. The 15 MPH speed limit tells you how rough the terrain is. Except where the preserve has layed rock down, it is either muddy, under water, or rock crawling. All bad for sport quads.
Title: Re: Some Big Cypress Pics Post by: rubicon500kid on February 25, 2005, 05:49:16 PM are kids allowed to go isnt there a rule about being 16 years an older to drive there

Title: Re: Some Big Cypress Pics Post by: sk8r_dude on February 27, 2005, 07:49:06 AM I was caught on the Concho Billie Trail as well. Had to back track 23 miles the way we came in because the north trail head exit was blocked by waist deep water and we had to turn around and head back in the dark. Got out of the south trail head around midnight. Last weekend we met a group of riders on Concho asking me for directions. They thought the trail was 10 -11 miles long looking at the map they were given at the visitors center. I showed them my GPS which has topo maps of the park and how the trail was about 30 miles long. The park map can be deceiving. I showed them the rest of the trail and the way out.
Title: Re: Some Big Cypress Pics Post by: AintSkeered on May 08, 2005, 07:06:38 PM I've had the permit for the past two years and just haven't found anybody who knows the area. Let me know when the next ride is. I imagine it won't be until after summer rains are done.
