Title: Dont rub off of choke Post by: DVX400NY on September 13, 2006, 09:01:43 PM Ok this is probably the most basic question but I am new to all of this. I have a DVX400 was running fine now for some reason the only way it wile idle is with the choke on. Once I turn off choke it will stall. Any Ideas. Is it a simple fix such as a adjustment of do I have a bigger problem on hand. ( I didnt think it was a adjustment because it was running fine, this just started happening)

Title: Re: Dont rub off of choke Post by: UncleRico on September 13, 2006, 09:17:11 PM The Choke is a device that restricts the air intake to result in a richer fuel mixture which assists in starting the engine.
Your saying that when the choke is off, and the air flow is UNrestricted it shuts off? So you're gonna need a few things.... 2 rolls of double sided non stick tape 1 Ballpeen hammer 40 lbs of Idaho spuds 1 Tennis ball machine 1 Industrail size tube of Petroleum Jelly. Once you get all these things together, you're going to want to take your carb off and clean your bowl and your carb. That's the first thing you would do in the "PROCESS OF ELIMINATION GAME" If that doesn't work, we'll have to fire up the tennis ball machine and break open the Potatoes and the Jelly. Title: Re: Dont run off of choke Post by: DVX400NY on September 14, 2006, 07:56:06 PM OK I got the bike running but it on runs when the fuel valve is on RES or PRI not in the ON position. Any sugestions. You think it has something in it?
Title: Re: Dont rub off of choke Post by: UncleRico on September 14, 2006, 07:57:58 PM Your diaphram in your petcock is probably shot.
Try running it on primary again, if it still sputters out, you need to replace your petcock or try to clean it. (Oh, the petcock is also known by the technical term of the "reserve fuel thingy") Title: Re: Dont rub off of choke Post by: Mars on September 14, 2006, 09:38:06 PM The Choke is a device that restricts the air intake to result in a richer fuel mixture which assists in starting the engine. SNIP Yes, car carbs. Bikes and ATVs use an enritching circuit. They add fuel. A pluged pilot jet would most likely be the cause. In your case (DVX400NY) follow UncleRicos 2nd post. |
