After 2 years away from FTR I will be doing all of the QS races. I'm looking forward to meeting some new people from the site. The only bummer is I haven't ridden my quad since the 4th of July weekend. the way things are going I probably won't be riding it until the race on Srpt 23rd. I ride my bicycle 10 miles about 4 or 5 times a weeks. Hopefully that will keep me from getting tired. Now as long as I don't forget how to ride the quad.

Stop and say hi if you see me out there. I will be #25 in the Senior class......boy am I getting old.

Don't know what's going to happen with the sound thing.   :-X
I went for a ride today and was tired pretty quick. I am debating going to the HS race the week before. Maybe just to ride and have fun with you Luis!  ;D
Today a vine hooked my neck and about ripped my head off my body.

What's the difference between the hare scrambles and quad scrambles?

What's the difference between the hare scrambles and quad scrambles?

The Quad Scrambles are a 1 day event that is quads only.

The Hare Scrambles are a 2 day event. There are quads and bikes.

The Hare Scramble series will have no end on the year awards for quads. Only the Quad Series will. You will still get a throphy for each race, but not championship points for the end of the year. They want everyone to move to the QS. Then it will be bikes one weekend and quads another.

Hey guys when it comes to get old, well I'm getting there too ... or am I already there ??  ??? I could be riding senior but I liked "B" last season and will see how it goes on this one.
Any way, I have been riding some MX to get some seat time, I really like it (must of the jumps scare me but is fun) and I will try some of those MX quad only series races just to help and well have fun too.
Can't wait

Let me make sure I am getting this. I looked at the FTR site about the Hare Scramble but I still had some questions. Do I need to get an FTR membership to race? Also, is it $50 Bucks each race and an additional $20 Bucks for a transponder? Thanks

Title: Re: Here it comes! FTR Quad XC racing!
Post by: TRX450R_Racer on September 03, 2006, 11:51:32 PM
You need to join FTR..........................$50

You buy a transponder one time fee.....$20

Gate fee...........................................$10

Racing fee........................................$40

All the fun your going to have..............Priceless!!

Title: Re: Here it comes! FTR Quad XC racing!
Post by: mudnuri on September 04, 2006, 05:34:40 PM
Some events require you to be an AMA member, too.................... $50
This first race will be a real treat! Lot's of different terrain and you snake through two huge barns.
I have my stock exhaust system on. The thought of passing people on my stealthy sounding machine gives me goosebumps!! I think I am at around 93 decibles! I don't care how much faster the pipes make the machine, you can only go so fast through the woods.

Plan on doing all the quad scrambles and maybe a few hare scrambles. Just got a fmf q2 for the yfz so i should be good on the db.

I want to try it on the 23rd, do you need a kill switch?

Title: Re: Here it comes! FTR Quad XC racing!

yes.

Title: Re: Here it comes! FTR Quad XC racing!
Post by: mudnuri on September 07, 2006, 04:51:48 PM
Yes, you need a kill switch. They are easy to install and if you need one shipped, try MXSOUTH  . COM
I have the Pro Armor switch and have had no trouble with it yet.
I think any newcombers who want to come out and race should think about camping out Friday night. It is fun and there is nothing like waking up to an off-road ATV event!!
Begginers don't be scared.
Those of you big talkers, now's your chance to put up  >:( or shut up!   :'(
I am a big talker by the way and always loose  :'(  :P

I'm doing the quad scrambles.  Can't wait!!!!  There are a couple of months where there isn't a QS scheduled so I may hit a couple of Hare Scrambles on the off months.

Hopefully get to meet some of the people from the board.  Yellow Quadsport 34C.

this quad scrable sounds like alot of fun.  How does someone classify thereself as a begginner or a quad C?

Title: Re: Here it comes! FTR Quad XC racing!
Post by: cubnfrank on September 07, 2006, 07:20:50 PM
Yea really, what class would 41 y/o has been like me enter?

Title: Re: Here it comes! FTR Quad XC racing!
Post by: mudnuri on September 07, 2006, 07:23:16 PM
Just came in from a little after work practice! Getting ready!
I will be with a group of guys in a Black trailer. Stop by and say hello. Everyone is very friendly at these events. They look scary sometimes, but are harmless. That is, until the start!
If you need help someone will gladly help.

I wold say if you have ridden before and can handle a quad, then I would try the C classes and advance as you get better. The begginer classes are just that. Someone with the courage to try something new.  :P
Some tips on rider ettiquite(sp?): BE VERY OBSERVANT OF WHAT IS GOING ON ALL AROUND YOU. This includes behind you. With this new sound rule, you may not hear a faster rider coming up behind you. Which leads us to the next tip. GET OUT OF THE WAY OF FASTER RIDERS. You may find yourself in an awkward position after the race if you don't yield to the faster riders  >:(
DON'T RIDE BEYOND YOUR ABILITIES. That's when you get hurt. Just try to at least finish. These are a challange like never before if you are new to this. Heck, even if you are used to it, it is a challange! 2 hr race. When was the last time you went wide open for even 1 hour? Try 2.
People have a tendancy (I know cause I did it too!) to ride faster instead of yielding when they are tired. Just find a small area to give an inch and the faster rider will get around. You don't have to stop.
The trails are marked and this is a new course for us. The hosting club has worked their butts off to make this happen. It is going to be a blast! I hear part of it goes through two barns!
There is a thread of an arial image of the course on the FTR forum under harescrambles.
Go Dolphins!

Title: Re: Here it comes! FTR Quad XC racing!
Post by: mudnuri on September 07, 2006, 07:28:46 PM
I would suggest to anyone who rides but has never done one of these to try the C class first. This might hurt, but 41 would entitle you to the senior class  ??? I know, I am right there, too  :'(
But those guys are fast! It is a safe class to be in for you because if you didn't want to be pressured you can let them leave you and ride alone.

I dont see the decible rule anywhere.   What is  it and how can I tell how loud my quad is?

Title: Re: Here it comes! FTR Quad XC racing!
Post by: TRX450R_Racer on September 07, 2006, 09:16:38 PM
It is 96db with a 1.5db room for error, so 97.5 will pass. If you have an aftermarket pipe that isn't specifically designed to be quiet then I can tell you without testing you won't pass.

I tested my DR. D slip-on with my buddy db meter. I have a quiet insert in it and at about what I was guessing was over 3000rpms I was just under 98db. It will be close. I will have my stock silencer if needed.

We can all be in the Senior class together.

I have my HMF repaqued, and I made a quite core from the stock pipe and the HMF one and it sounds really quiet, I feel a lost on power but for the woods it should be fine, I can always take it of if I go to the mx with my friends

No. hehehe
It is part of a contingency program. You sign up for it and... heck, I don't really know how it works. I know you get money towards riding gear and stuff. I think only Maxxis doles out cold hard cash and they do not sponsor us. :(  Yet!

There will also be a food vendor there. I understand the cook is VERY good!!  :P
We will be arriving Friday night. Those of you wanting to do the Fun Run can camp both Friday and Saturday if you wanted to.

well as far as I know, you don't have to be a FTR member toparticipate on the fun run, and is the same track we all race... this will give you the best idea how this HS and QS race is like

My pipe sounds like an army of Mexican Landscapers with leaf blowers.

She's a loud one, and I want an exemption in order to race with it. Who do I have to grease for that?

Title: Re: Here it comes! FTR Quad XC racing!
Post by: mudnuri on September 09, 2006, 10:00:29 PM
Unfortunately, loud pipes seem to make people mad when you are having fun. If you are working, people seem to tolerate the noise. Nontheless, if you are over the db level you will be dq'd
You  are right Luis, you do not have to join or be a member to ride Sundays Fun Run.
 :P

Title: Re: Here it comes! FTR Quad XC racing!
Post by: 450rutmaker on September 10, 2006, 05:52:15 PM
what all gear/equipment is needed to run this series?

atv
1-kill switch
2-number plate front and back(dont understand the letter thing)
3-under 98 db

person
1-jersey/pants
2-helmet/goggles
3-are boots a must I could have by nov but not 9-23
4-will they allow a under chest protector

Also do they do any title/reg checks

Title: Re: Here it comes! FTR Quad XC racing!
Post by: TRX450R_Racer on September 10, 2006, 06:17:53 PM
Some classes have letters attached and some don't.

A chest protector isn't madatory but it is highly recommended.

Boots are required.

No title/reg check.

DB limit is 96 with a 1.5 room for error so 97.5 will pass.

well im sending in my reg form tomm. hopefully they will get with me before the race so I will know what #s to order.  I know I need a yellow plate.  Thanks for the quick reply

Title: Re: Here it comes! FTR Quad XC racing!
Post by: TRX450R_Racer on September 10, 2006, 06:28:17 PM
It will take a week to 10 days to get a number. You might or might not get that information before the race because thay are so busy with a race next weekend and on the 23rd. If you don't know what # you are before the race don't worry, there are vendors at the race that you can buy #s and letters from. Just have your # plates ready with the correct back ground and you can just stick the #s on and go.

Title: Re: Here it comes! FTR Quad XC racing!
Post by: mudnuri on September 10, 2006, 06:41:21 PM
Yeah, and you might not want to send that form by mail. Just join at sign up.
The letter thing is the class you are in. If it is the C class, 0-400 has yellow plates. You will put the letter of your class after your number
Like 48C

This is a email hmf sent me

"We tested a LTZ400 with the quiet core installed.  The db test came back with a 93.7db average and a 96.8db max.  If you have any difficulties we can send you the test results, but you shouldn’t have any trouble any place you go with a 96db limit"

Now if that was at idle or mid throttle I dont know I asked them to send me a copy of the dyno.

I dont want to drive to Orlando next weekend to be sent home thats for sure.

Chillin's  right. Come on out and have some fun. They seem to be targeting the really loud one's. No matter what, you will not be sent home.  :P
I went to the hare scramble they had this weekend and tell you this is a very forgiving, fast course. Only a couple of tight areas, but I heard they are going to change it up a little for this weekends quad scramble.
Hope to see all of you there.
