Title: Hughes Net Internet service
Post by: Asphaltdragon on August 23, 2006, 02:47:40 PM
Anyone using this service? How is it working for you? Looking for an alternative to Bellsouth. It's gonna be a few week before Bellsouth can run the phone lines out to our house :-\

DON'T DO IT DON'T DO IT DON'T DO IT DON'T DO IT
It is the biggest piece of cr*p I have ever seen. It is nothing but a big scam. If you are ONLY downloading large files, it is ok. If it is for web surfing (particulaly secure web site like your bank etc.) then save your money - it is far slower than dial-up.

You cannot use it for online gaming. You cannot use it for Vonage. It goes out everytime it rains.

We live in the country an do not have dsl or cable so it was the only option. I opted for the enterprise solution with the larger dish and it is still virtually unusable. I am now shelling out $550 p/m for a T1 connection.

Save your money.

thanks for the info. I'll try and wait for the bellsouth installation and see if we will be able to get DSL. Right now I am using my laptop and Verizon's Broadband Service to access the internet

Hi, stick to the laptop card, I have one of those too and even that is faster than the Hughes.

Anyone want a to buy system cheaply. Guess I talked myself out of a sale with my previous post.

I live out in the middle of nowhere and I have the Hughesnet and it works fine, I haven't had any problems yet. Hey it is  faster than dial-up out here. It isnt as fast as comcast 6mb services but like I said I have had no problem and I pay only $50 a month.

Try opening a secure web site in the evening on it.

How long does it take to open this page on your connection (it takes 1 & 1/2 minutes on mine)
