Teen Injured When Thrown From ATV
Posted August 07, 2006 at 12:34 AM

TAMPA - An Odessa teen was reported in fair condition Saturday at St. Joseph’s Hospital after he was thrown off the ATV that he was operating Friday night, Hillsborough County sheriff’s spokeswoman Lisa Haber said.

Christopher R. Martinez, 15, was driving the ATV near 8927 Donna Lu Drive and towing an inflatable raft, Haber said.

The the raft’s towing strap came loose and became entangled under the ATV. Martinez was then flipped off the vehicle and struck his head on pavement, Haber said.

That sucks.  Was he just towing it out of stupidity or was he actually close to shore?

He may have been towing to a pond or canal. If so, he should've used a real trailer with a trailer hitch. I will not comment on driving on a paved road. I hope he's okay,

The big question is did he have a helmet on? I think these news stories should include if they had on the proper protective gear. Just another nail in the coffin.
