Title: Re: start button Post by: 53yfz450 on July 28, 2006, 11:40:52 PM yes any dirt bike killswitch will work.
Title: Re: start button Post by: jayman on July 28, 2006, 11:44:15 PM I tried this mod the other day, my quesion is how will a dirt bike kill switch work, it only has one wire and you need two.
Title: Re: start button Post by: Fox17 on July 29, 2006, 12:07:09 AM i dont know? i was wonderin if a wr start button would work. it looks like a kill switch but ti is a grey bitton with a lightning bolt (or whatever) on it. i dont know how to get one but...
Title: Re: start button Post by: jayman on July 29, 2006, 12:09:08 AM I had to go to radio shack and by a push button starter (got two for $3.99) and then I mounted it on the dash
Title: Re: start button Post by: Fox17 on July 29, 2006, 12:10:40 AM ??? radio shack has push button starters? for what kind of thing and what wires do you use?
Title: Re: start button Post by: jayman on July 29, 2006, 12:14:27 AM Yeah, I went to 3 bike shops and nothing, went to the local auto parts and nothing said what the he!! and went to radio shack and to my surprise they have push button starter switches. They are not the square button they are round. Also they will not mount on the bars. They are the ones that have a round nut on them to where you can drill a hole and then mount it with a nut.

Title: Re: start button Post by: Fox17 on July 29, 2006, 12:23:45 AM that is a lot of money. how do you wire the radio shack switch? just splice the wires and hook them up to the little prongs?
Title: Re: start button Post by: jayman on July 29, 2006, 12:27:45 AM Yeah I soddered two wires to the prongs then spliced them into the old start button. It did not matter which of the two wires went on which prong. I suggest that you find a different button ( not the one from radio shack) unless you have a spot you do not mind drilling.
Title: Re: start button Post by: Fox17 on July 29, 2006, 12:33:35 AM i dont really know how to sodder. is there any way you can just put the wires through them 2 little holes and twist them? ill look at ace or home depot at switches. i think home depot has them. i was lookin at toggle switches to replace the key on my 300ex. im pretty sure they have some. thanks for all the info. ;D
Title: Re: start button Post by: jayman on July 29, 2006, 12:36:39 AM Yes that is what I did with the wires then I soddered them. Once again I have heard that a kill switch will work, just wasnt able to find one that had two wires. The kill switch will look the cleanest althoug I have a plastice dash with lights so the start button is almost unnoticable.
Title: Re: start button Post by: Fox17 on July 29, 2006, 12:39:18 AM ok i will look into it. i wish the one from the wr would work. it looks the best. that is way too much $ though.

Then when you pushed it that it would ground to the bars completing the circuit.

NOT just the push button. That means that you have to deal with 4 wires. I love it, sooo much cleaner and better looking than that bulky plastic pod thingy. Dan |
