Title: Cracked my frame :(
Post by: SPLDan on July 27, 2006, 01:07:30 AM
Hit a table top a little wrong and came down hard on the 450R today , split the bottom of the frame somethign nasty ...

Rest of the bike looks to be alright minus I broke the rear subframe  ..

What do you guys suggest and how much do a new frame and and rear sub usually run ..

Any chance of me getting this dealer warrantied lol

The dealer should fix it if its under warranty, Just dont tell them you were racing or anything.

You can replace the subframe and if the frame isn't too bad you can weld it. Was it gussetted? Post a pic of the damage so we can better assess your options  :)

LSR makes a sweet chromoly frame for it. so does Roll Design. probably not cheap but i is a lot stronger. they come in colors too.

Give Uncle Rico some duct tape and a hammer...and about 2 hours.

I can fix anything with duct tape and a hammer.

Didn't hit anything. Was cracked and it wasn't noticed. Somehow it peeled back, weird

If the frame broke all the way through then you're going to have to replace it, once they break sh!t gets out of line. New OEM frames are like $500 or so, but this time gusset it before you put the bike back together and it should last long. I'd recomend either a Walsh or LSR gusset kit.

"gussets," or little pieces of steel are welded in as braces in critical areas, often where there are joints or other potential/known weak areas.  Usually requires stripping to the frame, removing all the paint

who does it? i cant weld. i dont want my frame to crack though. i bought the bike to race. do i really need them? if a frame only costs 500 bucks then it woud be cheaper and easier to get a new one since i would have to have someone gusset it for me anyway. ???

Unless you have $ to burn, I wouldn't worry about it.  Stock frame is plenty strong for most of us.  If you have $'s or a championship on the line...that might be different.  The weaker spot on the '04's is the stock swingarm.
