Title: Valdosta Flat Track Racing August 19 Post by: HillKiller on July 23, 2006, 09:09:14 PM Quad Flat Track racing at
ValdostaKartingComplex.com 5266 Shiloh Road, Valdosta, GA 229-794-9729 1.5 miles west from I-75 off of exit 22 * 1/4 mile (approx 1330' aroung middle groove) clay D-shaped oval, slight banking. * Gate fee $7 (under 6 free) , race entry fee $20. Gate opens at 3pm on raceday. * Flattrack tires only, no knobbies (except Peewees). * Idle speed to and from track (kart guys push theirs) * Classes include Peewee, Women's, Beginner, Intermediate, and Open. It is up to the rider/parent as to which class they sign up for and should be decided based on ability and experience. * Numbers should be on 4 locations: front bumper, rear, left rear fender, right rear fender. * Safety gear required: boots (above ankle), long pants, helmet, eye protection, gloves. Recommended equipment: nerf bars, neck collar, kill cord, chest protector. * Class sizes will be decided based on turnout. Heats are qualifiers for the Mains, 4 quads per heat. Starting position in the heats is assigned by drawing numbers. After two heats, top 2 points finishers advance to their A main, bottom two points finishers go to B Main. In the event of a points tie, tie breaker goes to the rider who scored better in their 2nd heat. Lineup position for Mains is awarded by points from heats, ie., highest points gets gate pick. * Trophies or plaques will be awarded. At I-75 exit 18 there are hotels and a campground. Post by: HillKiller on August 07, 2006, 04:25:27 PM Ok boys, I just spoke with Wade at the Jasper Fl, track ( www.crossroadsmotorplex.com ) and we might have an invite to race there Friday night Aug 18th. This is another 1/4 mile clay oval, similar to Valdosta. Average Kart record lap times range from 12.38 sec per lap into the 15's. For those of us who drive a long ways to race in Valdosta this would make it a "two-for-one" weekend and save some fuel expense, etc. Nothing is set yet for Jasper but I expect to have a definate answer by Weds and I will post the news then. :ThumbsUp.gif

A few of us with full setup flat track quads have been visiting different kart tracks over the last few weeks putting on exhibitions during intermission. The kart people are amazed when they see the quads, most of them say they have never seen anything like them. One guy asked if we were some kind of traveling Outlaw group. This is another 1/4 mile clay oval, similar to Valdosta. Average Kart record lap times range from 12.38 sec per lap into the 15's. For those of us who drive a long ways to race in Valdosta this would make it a "two-for-one" weekend and save some fuel expense, etc. Nothing is set yet for Jasper but I expect to have a definate answer by Weds and I will post the news then. :ThumbsUp.gif OK here's the news... The Jasper flat track race will be Sept 23! I will post the details later today. The new flagman in turn 4 wasn't aware that cones are pulled when quads race because the karts race with cones out. Unfortunately by the time someone said something about the cones it was nearly too late. Within another lap there was a wreck. :(

The souped up weedeater motors (LOL)in them 2 fitty's are pretty fast, but the 450's can win on any given day. Most of it is rider ability anyway. It takes alot more skill than people think to go fast and turn left. It just so happens that there is a track in Ocala, and there is a race there on the 2nd of Sept. It should be a large tunout, and lots of good racing to watch. PM me if you want info on the race. If you want to look at different setups, come to the race, and look around. Nobody will make you feel like a tool. For the most part, it's a really cool, laid back bunch of guys, alot more so than in some other types of racing that I've done. Hey UncleRico, sounds like you might be a beginer like myself just getting into flattracking and I wanted to let you know of a flattrack that you can pratice on with knobbies so you can see how cool it is. The track is in Dade City called Dade Cty MX (as they also have a MX track there) they have pratice on Thursday nights 7-10pm it's a great place to try it out. It's a smaller track than Ocala but great to start out on, pratice or maybe some test&tune and if your lucky some of the "hot shots" from Ocala like dave and doug might shown up and man you can learn a lot from watching and listening to them. it's always a blast and you'll get a first hand feel for it!..come on out, I am usally there with my Suzuki Z400 giving it my best...not much but I think I'm getting a little better ::) Title: Re: Valdosta Flat Track Racing August 19 Post by: UncleRico on August 24, 2006, 11:31:02 PM Hey, thanks for the info guys!
