Title: Hard decision Post by: MachineDog on July 18, 2006, 02:41:28 PM Okay, I've got a decision to make and I need some help. I have a stock Rancher 4x4 and I'm deciding between making it bad to da bone, or just saving up and getting a big bore in about a year leaving the rancher stock. I know the big bore will have a whole lot more raw power, but it won't be as good in the mud due to being stock. And it'd be that way for awhile most likely. If I mod out the rancher I'll be putting 27" tires, pipe, snorkel, winch, clutch kit, performance cam shaft, suspension kit, and some type of lift kit. And then I'd make the decision on bbk or not. There would be no compromise between the two decisions, so give me your opinion on which you'd do.

The less you touch an engine the more reliable it will be so although cams and BBK sound great they just aren't as reliable as a stock engine/trans. Depending your budget don't rule out some of the mid sized utilities that are out now. Suzuki is going to be releasing another King Quad with a 450 in it but will still feature IRS, diff lock and the same suspension as the 700 King Quad. 2007 Big Bear 400 also has IRS and diff lock and would be a good ATV for mud.

Probably the main fault I have with my quad, is the suspension being horribly bad. I can't even tell if it's too hard or it's just bottoming out on every single bump. Even riding a trail, it's bumpity bump bump bump. :( The power on it is decent, and I can deal with most of the things. It's the suspension that's made my decision to go with a new bike. Sucks that we just got this quad, and I don't like it already. It's really smooth and sporty on anything but trails though.

THEY ARE THE WORST TIRES YOU CAN PUT ON AN ATV FOR THE MUD!!!!!!!!!!! PUT HOOSIER FLAT TRACK TIRES, SUPERCAR TIRES, ANYTHING BUT THESE. They provide zero traction in the mud and gum up before you even get them wet... Other than that the polaris will go anywhere your honda will go now. Its just that you cant pick up the polaris when it gets stuck :-\.
