Title: Is croom worth it??
Post by: MgOnZo700 on July 11, 2006, 08:34:33 AM
Hey guys I live in Miami and my dad wants to go offroading and maybe camping for his birthday, is Croom worth it? How big is the place? Is it one of those places that you have to pay or is it just one of those thats open to the public? What kind of riding is done there.

It's 2600 acres. Yes you have to pay 50$ but it's good for 1 yr. It's mainly sport quads that ride there. But anyone can go and ride there as long as the have a drivers license, $50, and your VIN #.

Cromm is a lot of fun. there are 50 camping spots. They all have power and water. ther are 2 sets of bathrooms and showers in the campground. The best part is you are in the midlle of the woods, but right outside the gate is stores and returants. There is also a motorcycle shop at the gate. I think it is worth it. I go about once a month. I will be there this weekend.

It is $50 a bike/quad. If you go in with 10 people and 1 quad/bike it is only $50. You buy a sticker for you quad/bike for $50 that allows it into the park. You can bring as many people as you want.

Just your money and vin #. the palce is all fenced in. If you get lost just follw thw fence line. You will eventually get back to where you were. Also go to the where to ride section and print the google earth map for Croom. It will help you out a lot.

I will be there with my friend and his son. You and your dad stop by and say hi. Our camp will look something like this. With a white van also.

Thanks for the info guys but does everyone need a drivers license? What if you are underage? Does that mean your kids cant ride?
Sorry about all the questions I just wanna know the place before I travel over there.
O and  TRX450R_Racer What do you mean its fenced in If you get lost just follow the fence line. You will eventually get back to where you were.
Does this mean that you see the fence from wherever you are? Then that means that you the place realyy isnt that big. Im confused.

No, there's a fence that borders the area.  Length wise it may take, let's say 20 to 30 minutes to ride, and width wise, 10 to 15 minutes.  Those are just guesses, I've been there only a few times.  But what happens is that you'll run into a fence, and you'll preety much have an idea of which way to follow it to get back to camp.  He's just saying that if you get turned around, keep going in one direction, you'll run into a fence, and you can follow that back to somewhere.

Croom is a great place to ride, but I'd be doing you a dis-service if I didn't tell you that most of the trails are "whoops".  This has evolved from the many years of riding that has been done there (I personally like to blame the Motorcross bikes, lol).  The maintainance to the trails themselves is non-existent, and there is no quick route from the front day area to the back camping area on an ATV.  That being said, there are some smoother areas here and there, and there really isn't a better place to ride in Florida that I can think of.  Ocala is not as whooped out, but the camping there is much more primitive.

Get ready for a workout on your legs, whoops can work ya like a dog!!   ;D

Maybe a rumor but I heard they hired a groomer to take the whoops out. Since it's prob. there #1 complaint.

What about the drivers license thing?

You don't have to have a drivers license to ride. It doesn't matter how old you are, all you need is a helmet.

So you park the truck in the parking lot and then you go to the camp with the atv?

1  Anyone can ride as long as they have a helmet.
2   NO passengers unless the quad is designed for 2
3   You will need $50 and the VIN # for each quad or cycle
4   They have alot of different areas to park (you'll see when you get there)
5    To my favorite area and the Camp grounds take the main road in all the way to the back (could be   5-7 miles)
6   Just unload your quads put your helmets on and start riding
7   Have fun

If you are camping your vehicle will be parked in your camp site.
