Title: New to Florida
Post by: Giest on July 05, 2006, 08:07:42 AM
Ok I will be moving to Florida from San Diego. I will be living in the Ft Walton Beach/Destin area. I am trying to figure out if bringing my quad will be worth it. From the looks of it, the closest decent riding is Ocala, which looks like a decent drive.

I am wondering if there is any more riding up in the area I am in. Maybe something in Alabama. Just looking for some good input.

Alabama would deffinetly be closer to that area, I would look up the # for the chamber of commerce in alabama, they might be able to help.
Did you try a search on atv rididng in alabama??

Why would anyone leave San Diego? I heard the streets are paved with Gold, and the weather is a perfect 78 degrees year round.

The best and closest (legal) place to ride around here is SouthernRidge ATV trails (http://www.southernridgeatvtrails.com/) about a 90 minute drive north-northwest of Crestview.

It is fantastic place to ride. We have had a blast riding there twice this year and would go more but they are only open about once a month.  Only one more ride this year at the end of September.

Another close legal place to ride is Roaring Hills (http://www.roaringhillsatvpark.com/). It is a bit closer than SouthernRidge, but from what I understand (haven't been there myself, yet) it is not as extensive as SouthernRidge.

The closest to Ft.Walton is (or should say was) a place up by Mossyhead, but people have been run off by the sheriffs up there so it is essentially closed.

Another place to consider is Tate's Hell National forest. Trying to get a trip planned there for this fall, but from what I have read it doesn't sound too exciting.

There are a few place out in/around Navarre but nothing too substantial. Then there is all this Eglin range land around here, but it is not exactly legal to operatate an ATV out there.  ;)
