Title: Re: please be safe Post by: Chuck_Norris on December 10, 2004, 04:31:16 AM Situation such as these will alter life in general. LOOK AT MY SIG BROTHER, I have lost many friends throughout the course of life. you are sadden with the loss of your friend it is something that God will put you through, it will make you stronger and allow you to learn many lessons before it is all over, while riding home on the Harley last night I was run off of the road by a Jeep Cherokee, I went into a culvert, fighting to keep control of the bike, I managed to get back on the road. I stopped, watched where the jeep was going and proceeded to confront the driver. [smiley=Angry.gif] I pulled up behind the driver, as she got out of her vehicle I sternly asked if she realized what just took place, after her apology I carried on my way. at anytime I could have become road rash. Will this stop me from riding my bike? nope not hardly. If you wipe out on your quad will you stop riding? accept the loss as hard as it is and it will take time friend, find support from those around you, stop in at church, and here on the site, rest assure I will keep you in prayer. Be thankful for every breath you take, that you are looking down at the grass and above ground with a heart beat.

But I know I can take it the person I worry for the most is his younger brother who looked up to him like he was his hero and his mother poor thing she was truly devastated.

Title: Re: please be safe Post by: yunt2ride on December 10, 2004, 05:52:15 AM First off, I'm sorry for your loss, but don't let that keep you from getting a bike if thats what you want. Motorcycles are fun to ride but you need to ride them with respect. You said that he had a helmet but he was riding a wheely. He did something wrong and made a mistake. I do not think that you should ride wheelies on the street and it should be illegal. They are made with two wheels and both wheels should be on the ground. We all have done foolish things in our life. Some has been fortunate and some hasn't. If you do decide on a new bike, ride with respect and keep both wheels on the pavement. I had a Kawasaki one time. Two days after I purchased it, I took a back road with my nephew on it. I wanted to see what it would do. Took it up to 120 pmh, hit the throttle and still had more to go. When I looked down at the road and saw the striped yellow line and it looked like a solid line, I slowed down and realized just how foolish I was and never did that again. Fortunately for us a dog or some other animal did not walk across the road or we would have in bad shape. My foolishness, could have cost me and my nephews life, and he would have just been a rider.

Title: Re: please be safe Post by: J.D. on December 10, 2004, 07:46:29 AM Dont let the fact of losing a close buddy keep you from doing the things you love to do . I ride the bike my father died on , and I know in my heart he would not have it any other way .Learn from other peoples mistakes dont turn and run away from them .
Title: Re: please be safe Post by: stretchy on December 10, 2004, 08:58:09 AM Truly sad for your loss. It just puts into perspective how dangerous these "sports" are. I also have done stupid things and only after I was done realized how stupid I was.
For all the bike riders. BE CARFUL OUT THERE! The snowbirds are down a nd if they will pull out in front of my dually they surly won't see you. She pulled out across 3 lanes into mine and it cost her a spleen and eight months in recovery. I know some of my friends won't ride during tourist season which seems wrong in such beautiful weather. Title: Re: please be safe Post by: Splatt on December 10, 2004, 06:21:37 PM My roomate and good friend is in ICU right now because of a street bike. He's riding along going through an S curve (about 50 or so) and the bike slide's out from under him and he slides right into a guardrail. It was a friends bike and he had been riding it for about 4 days (no he is not inexperienced). He had to be baylighted and now he has the following:Just came out of a comma, Broken back, broken neck, broken shoulder blade, broke ribs, Collapsed lung, Brain hemraging, and he's paraylized from the waste down (hopefuly only temporary because his spinal cord is not severed just brusied and swollen). He is in a lot of pain and might not ever be able to walk again. Motorsports were his life (cars, bikes, quad, and just working on anything mechanical). Now he might not ever be able to ride his quad with us again. This is one of the hardest things ever to deal with. So if you ride a street bike or are thinking about it please ride safely and think of all the other people you could hurt not just yourself! :'(
