Title: Need Input for New Flat Track Construction Post by: fastrnrik on June 16, 2006, 04:32:40 PM I am going to be building a Flat Track and/or TT Track (depending on room) on my property near Ocala. This is not going to be a commercial, open to the public type facility, just a place to practice and maybe have a few races with some guys now and then. I am looking for serious input on track length and shape, turn radius, banking elevations etc. I have done some measuring at Thunderbowl, and we are going through Valdosta tomorrow, so we are going to stop at the track there to look it over. I understand from others that the Valdosta track is quite a bit larger than Thunderbowl. As far as the TT portion of the track, I have no firsthand knowledge in this area because I have never done it. We thought we might check out Sand Mountain for some ideas. Any ideas, thoughts, or input would be appreciated.

Also, the clay is pure and the surface is very smooth so it seems much faster than Ocala. I personally like the banked tracks better because there is more corner speed and less wheel spin. One major key to having a great surface is having real clay mixed correctly. Talk with Dale at www.ValdostaKartingComplex.com , he could probably tell you which consistency is best. As far as track size of flattrack, I would say no bigger than 1/4 mile and no smaller than 1/5.

Title: Re: Need Input for New Flat Track Construction Post by: RTR_380/450R on June 17, 2006, 04:24:33 PM Actually, What alot of people dont understand is that you can have the best of both worlds when it comes to a flattrack/TT track! A 1/4 - 3/8 mile flattrack could support an inner TT track fairly easily! In other words, An oval Flattrack could have a alternate sharp left turn that runs into the center of the track itself. You put a few high speed jumps in it and a strong horseshoe and your in! Thats basically the design of Sand Mountain. Except for that track is a very large and very high speed track!
