Title: ATV Submersible?? Post by: Nick350R on June 07, 2006, 02:02:48 PM For my ATV (2006 Honda Rancher 4X4 ES) no-one makes a Snorkel Kit. :'(
Wanted to know on how to go about on making a Snorkel Kit by myself? :N If anyone has this ATV or close, can u tell me what the exact supplies u had purchased for your Snorkel Kit and where and how much did it cost u?? Approx. how much time it took u to put it together? :) Thanks in advance! Title: Re: ATV Submersible?? Post by: rubicon500kid on June 07, 2006, 02:50:05 PM illl send u pics and how too do it on aol
also you got to rember even with a snorkel it still wont be submersible Title: Re: ATV Submersible?? Post by: Da_Mtg_Man on June 09, 2006, 08:03:52 AM Oh yes they are, Just run your vent tubes up the snorkle, Just make sure you stay on the gas, As soon as you let off then water will come in through your exhaust, If you stay on it then you'll be fine. I've been up to my shoulders with nothing more than the top of the snorkle sticking out of the water. It is a good idea to get some dielectric grease and grease all fittings, Even the spark plug

Post by: Nick350R on June 13, 2006, 10:42:01 AM I have an idea, tell what u think!
Take the whole air box out that is connected to the carborator. Run PVC Pipe coming out from the carborator hole (Ruber housing). Run the pipe to the outside of the atv. Run it up toward to the front racks. Extend it up into the air of the atv. Put a K&N Air Filter Cone at the ending (the top) of the PVC Pipe for filtered air (now since there is no air box). What do u guys think! If some one has done this sort of, can u post some pictures of it (doesn't have to be the atv) Thanks Title: Re: ATV Submersible?? Doesn't have to be the same atv************** Title: Re: ATV Submersible?? Post by: MachineDog on June 14, 2006, 03:51:12 AM I have an idea, tell what u think! We just made one for my bro and it came out awesome, spray canned it black with clear coat. Anyway, you'll want to take out the little tube that comes out of the front on the air box. Then go to a hardware store, find a bit of rubber flex-tube that will fit around that tube. Then cut it, stick the flex-tube around it, silicone. Then take the flex-tube and run it somehow to the front end of the quad where you should be able to figure out the same way of getting it to fit a PVC pipe. Also, remember to get some heat-proof tape or some piece of metal to tape to the flex-tube and keep it off the engine. The flex-tube *will* melt through and leak if it touches the engine. Title: Re: ATV Submersible?? Post by: Nick350R on June 20, 2006, 08:46:56 PM How about this:
1.5" spa/pool hose. Where it goes to air box, I used a rubber reducer with clamps that goes from 1.5" to 2". Put a 2" 45 degree elbow on the end with a straight peice of 2" comming out of that. The 2" pipe slides right in airbox's factory rubber boot with clamp. For the riser I used 2" PVC connected to hose with rubber coupling and clamps. It was Cheap, easy, quick, no leaks, no rejeting, and is removable. Making the entire snorkel out of PVC or ABS is a lot harder cause you gotta figure out how to make all the angels work together. What do u guys think? Title: Re: ATV Submersible?? Post by: Bleedsblue on June 30, 2006, 11:14:14 AM That will work just fine. Both my belt case snorkels use shop vac hose from home depot which is 2" ID.
Definitely go through your ATV and look for any vent tubes that need to be extended and extend them to your snorkel. Some ATV's have vents on the carb, electric fan if you have one and front and rear differentials. Then as mentioned go through all your electrical connections and put dielectric grease in them. I've heard the Honda's are notorious for allowing water in through the pull start. You may want to look into how to seal that up as well. If you do all of the above you can complete submerge your ATV. Of course I wouldn't recommend trying to drive through any lakes. I've had most of my ATV's completely underwater save the snorkels. Post by: MachineDog on June 30, 2006, 11:47:42 AM Only thing about the vaccum tube is it could collapse, they're only designed for about 3hp of sucking power.. not 15. Not to mention the water will be pushing on it, try some heavier duty tube.
Title: Re: ATV Submersible?? Post by: Bleedsblue on June 30, 2006, 12:19:37 PM The pool spa hose or shop vac tubing? The shop vac tubing would not collapse under the engines power. The only way it could happen is if it got so hot that it became soft. This has been used on my ATVs for years and others and never had a single problem with collapsing.

He sealed the stock intake(at the airbox) and put a new hole going out the side. The pipe runs next to his left leg. Either that or just use the stock intake hole.
