Ok here are the details. The track owner said he bought the place a year and a half ago, before that it had been closed for 5 years.  Here's the rest:
*they currently have 35-50 karts every Sat
*racing starts at 7:15
*entry fee is $20, gate fee is $7
*trophies: if at least 8 in the class, 3 places trophy
*located 20 miles North Fl/Ga line, 2 miles off I-75
*track is is a 1/5 mile D shaped oval, made up of 100% Ga orange and white clay with tires and hay bale barriers; corners are about 30 wide. Surface is watered before the heats and before the main. The corners and straightaways are Banked and the karts race two and three wide. I think he said the track is approx 1330 ft around and some fast karts have lap times around 14 sec. Somebody do the math and compute the average MPH.
*karts do rolling starts, we will start on a green light like just like Ocala.
*NO KNOBBIES on the rear, his bread and butter is karts.
*No pit riding: karts have to be pushed in the pit area, not sure how that would apply to quads.

We can come up anytime but it'd be best to make as big a showing as possible.
Anybody object to June 17 or July 15???? Even July 1st if everyone doesn't already have plans.

man whats up with that??? i asked this guy if quads could race there a year ago and he said no!! !! oh well i guess he changed his mind!! the track is only about 20 mins from my house.
He said he would love to have us and the more the merrier.

I was kind of thinking July 15 to give people who still need tires plenty of time.

will his cart race rules be the same for the quads ?

Not sure which Kart rules would apply to us but he said we need to let him know the rules we go by.

Hey Guys,

Me,Derek,Dave, and Scott all rode this track last night, 6/3.  This track is super smooth with alittle banking, alot of TRACTION and speed for a 1/4 mile track.  Anyone who has raced Dade City, this track is alot alike just bigger.  Its different at first because of the D shape.  Turn 1 & 2 is a sweeping corner with full throtle speeds going into the back strait.  3 & 4 is tricky but still pretty fast coming across the line to the front strait away which is 3/4 the size of the back strait away.  Everyone get on the ball for JULY 15th we need atleast 10 or 12 to go and put on a good show.  For the most part 95% of the kart racers were super nice and welcomed us to there track.  The main thing like Dave posted above is NO KNOBBIES, sorry but for right now you need a full flat track setup, so we dont rut the track up for the karts.  HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE IN JULY.         DOUG :)

Hey Doug,

It was great you guys came up and hung out with us. Next time I will have the 450 back together so we can go out and play around on the Valdosta track. I'd like to have a full day of test and tune with our 450's up at the shop when I get some sprockets to speed mine up.

Dave,

I got a new screen name for you........LOWRIDEDAVE.....what do you think?

   Doug,
You couldn't have said it better, the Valdosta track is smooth, banked, fast, consistent, and above all it has GRIP. As far as location, it's about 20 miles over the GA/Fla state line , then 2 miles off I-75. The track owner Dale is super nice and really enjoyed the exhibition we put on for the crowd. He even said the spectators wanted to know when we would be back to race. The owner told us he would run all the quad classes first so we can head out early if anyone is driving home that night. If you want to stay overnight there are hotels and a campground 1 exit south, about 5 miles from the track. I will put in a call to Dale and let him know July 15 so if any of you don't already have FT tires www.ronniesmailorder.com can get you hooked up. The track is awesome.

Post by: derek330 on June 04, 2006, 11:21:39 PM
yes dave, the valdosta track rocks over ocala!! !! :o when the track had a groove in the main i was running
50mph in the corner and about 65 down the straight. in ocala i was going 40 in the corners and 60 down the straight and the valdosta track is smaller!! !! !! !! so it is a faster track for sure..... most everyone was cool there and liked to see the quads run.i look forward to racing there with everyone....
the fences are a little close to the track but i think it will be ok. me and doug were talking and thought mabey only 6 quads on the track at the time... just a thought...  the track is very smooth but is very strange due to the D shape of the track.it will take some getting use to for those people that have never raced a D track. i think there will be some good racing there for sure!! ;D

HEY DAVE, BOUNCE THAT LOWRIDA FOR ME YO!! !! :o

Derek,

One thing for sure it would be much easier to race Valdosta as often as Team Thunderbowl would like to. I might try it out on the 450R!! Come get some Gary.

Dave,

Tim's bike sure works well. I think I could do O.K. on the 450. I would like to think I am still half as good as I once was. It would be a new challenge to see if I could win on this bike. One thing for sure, they hook up much better than 2-strokes and Doug an Dominick would help me out with getting more power. 8)

Dale at the Valdosta track asked if we could give him an approx head count for the July 15th date. No need to post if you are NOT going , only if you are. As of now I already know of some:

Tim
Doug
Megan
Steven
Derek
Scott (270R)
Scooter
Rick
Scott (Raptor)
Benny
Bear
Me
There are probably several I forgot. We are hoping for enough to have at least two classes. If you thought Ocala was getting faster in the Mains wait til you run Valdosta.

Dave, I am really looking forward to the trip up there. After last Sat. and how I ran pretty well I am going to race both intermed. & beg. on the 24th so I should be in good shape for Valdosta. And thanks for always giving great advice at the track.

I spoke with Dale at Valdosta this morning, confirmed July 15 again, everything is set to go. Their website is back up  ( www.valdostakartingcomplex.com ). He had mentioned before a "Dash for Cash", something he does for the carts and offered to us on quads as well. Check out the link about payback, there is no minimum entry.

http://www.valdostakartingcomplex.com/1yearnite.html

If anyone wants to do this we could make it a separate race or make each main event a Jackpot money class. It doesn't have to be a "cut throat put 'em in the wall to win" kind of race, but instead designed to make you work harder racing for cash rather than just a trophy... so there be a poll on this? I bet if we raced for beer, Quad32x would come!!

Title: Re: Flattrack Racing in Valdosta July 15 $$$$$$$$
Post by: derek330 on June 21, 2006, 11:53:48 AM
i would be cool racing for cash as long as people dont get stupid. back in the day when we raced for money it was cool at first then people started getting mad and riding crazy and over their head to win!! i dont want it to get to that point!! if it does i will throw in the towel.... its not worth it to me to get hurt because someone felt they had to win and they would do whatever it took!! :( i guess we will find out............

Well so far, unless there are a bunch of people going who haven't said so, it will be the usual crew racing and most of us have raced each other a bunch of times. We'll decide what everybody wants to do when we get there, just make sure if you forget everything else, don't forget gnat repellent.

I noticed that no one has talked about Valdosta in a while. We are wanting to go on the 15th, but I wanted to see who all was still going. We don't want to be the only two there. LOL

No worries there man. I hope to be sporting the cleanest LT250R ever compliments of LFG / Mystic Motorsports Racing. I am still working the bugs out as it has sat up for close to 6 months but I hope to be ready. If not the 450R might make its racing debut in the intermediate class.  8)

Post by: derek330 on July 04, 2006, 01:42:18 AM
as far as i know everone is still going.. i dont think we should have too many quads there the first time... we might freak the owner out... he has never seen atv's race...i thought we should run 6 quads at a time and run 2 classes....  the fence is not far away from the track so i dont think there should be more than 6 at a time... i dont really know if this track is for begginers.... if someone wrecks the fence and people are not far away...  just trying to be safe!!  ;D  it wouldnt be cool if bikes were flying all over and tearing up the mans stuff or possably hurting someone....

Title: Re: Flattrack Racing in Valdosta July 15 $$$$$$$$
Post by: fastrnrik on July 04, 2006, 05:01:22 AM
Alright, Thanks for the info.
I'm really looking forward to seeing that Suz LT250 run. I had one in high school (I'm old) and loved it. I've always liked those LT's. Heck, there was a pretty nice looking LT250 for sale on here a week or so ago that could have been bought cheap. We're in the process of setting up an ol' LT to race a little bit. It's not a 250 though... ;)
We stopped by the Valdosta track on a recent trip through Georgia, and it's quite a bit different than Ocala. They were closed, but we walked down the driveway to check it out. It seems like a nice, organized facility. Safety is my priority, especially since my mishap a couple of months ago. I read earlier that there might be a money race, so that's where someones inner dumba$$ will come out. We're just going to have fun and race a little bit. If people start getting stupid, we'll load up and watch.

Title: Re: Flattrack Racing in Valdosta July 15 $$$$$$$$
Post by: Scott270r on July 04, 2006, 11:30:22 AM
Amen on that one. I don't support my family racing. When the old Pro class payout got bigger people got stupid. I want to run for trophies, that's good enough for me.

Its almost too pretty to race.......ALMOST haha I hope we get this bike running right it should change people's minds about Quadracers.  ;D

Title: Re: Flattrack Racing in Valdosta July 15 $$$$$$$$
Post by: derek330 on July 04, 2006, 01:31:21 PM
yeah.. i dont think we should race for money just yet... i'm sure you see what i mean about the track!! very nice place though..we are looking at a SUPER nice track in jasper but i'm not sure they are going to let us race. i tryed to get a race going there in 98' and they wouldn't let us run..but we will see dave is supposed to be calling them soon.. we have a couple of other tracks we are looking at...
ocala is just not a very good track.... but it works!!  trying to find a track in north florida so it would be good for everyone.... the good thing about valdosta is that the track is 100% north georiga clay!! 8) it is smaller than ocala but i go 5mph faster around it!!! thats good traction!! !! :lecture.gif

One more thing. I looked back over the thread and didn't see anything about classes for quads. Is it going to be 3 classes like Ocala, or will it just be figured out on race day by who shows up with what ride?

For all of you who weren't able to make it there were 17 bikes entered, 9 in the Intermediate and 8 in the Open class. We drew numbers and ran heats with 4 bikes, those with the best points transferred to the A Main for their respective class and those that didn't transfer raced in their class B Main.
 For example:
Open Class A Heat 1   had 4 bikes
Open Class B Heat 1   had 4 bikes
then A and B ran a 2nd heat and the top 2 in overall points from each A and B transferred to the Open Class A Main and the bottom 4 overall raced in the Open Class B Main. The Intermediate class ran the same. Racing was clean all night, a few spins but no wrecks.
As of now we have been invited back for a another race in mid to late August. I will post the exact date once I have it. Due to the expense to visit a distant track I know alot of you are dedicated to Thunderbowl so this next Valdosta race in August may be the last for a while. Scooter and Superstar, you guys missed some fast racing. Hope you can make the next one. As far as results, I have asked the track to email me the scoring sheets from the Mains so I will post results when I get them.

just in the 1st heat race because i got hit off the line... they started us about 4 inches apart...
but who smoked that azz in the main??wait i remember... it was me!! i got the 1st place trophy....  that was a fluke.....  if i would have passed ya'll if i had somewhere to pass but there was only one line and you and your dad had it so there was nothing i could do, but i was all over you dad.......but i put it down when it counted!! i will post the video soon so ya'll can see that i was 1/2 lap ahead of the 4 pokes in the main..... the tracks groove is sooo narrow that 3 out of 4 guys get crappy starting spots...got to give gary and his dad props..... good job!! dont let it happen again!! lol

p.s.  just remember who got that  :Fp  trophy!! !!  which by the way was only 5 inches tall!! LOL
p.s.s.  you may have won 1 battle but I won the war!! !! LOL

Gary,

Congrats on your first heat win and thanks again for the bolt. It would have stunk to DNF the race on 1 lousy little bolt shearing off. I hope to next time out run the Open Expert on the Suzuki. It needs a fresh piston and I think its ready to graduate from the intermediate class.  8)

Well, as I have said before, don't expect me to roll over and play dead. The Old Suzuki is a little down on power but it sure handles like a dream (Best ever In my opinion) and I am hoping to place mid-pack with it. The Intermediate class is just the wrong place for me to be. I have enjoyed getting to meet some of the guys in that class though. That #41 450R (Daniel) sure has some power, if the straights had been longer I would have been done dealing for sure.

I should know, Ive raced the pro circuit in Ca, LA, Al, IN,PA and some other states. Im not thrashing anyone because i dont want to get wrecked by someone whos mad... but since i have factory sponsership... i think i have the right to give my thoughts... Im not looking to get into a fist fight over it... There was one young fella out there who could ride very well. I think he was maybe 5-7YO on a blue bike.. now, that boy can race!

Keyboard racers are good for business, really stirs up the interest. Brewmaster I'm not sure you were at the right track in Ga because there weren't any 5-7 yr olds racing because there wasn't a mini class unless you meant Ocala's track. In addition an August date is being planned so BRING IT! It's all good and we'd love to have you.

Cool, glad you stopped by. Tell your friends if they are interested, Ocala is expected to reopen Labor day weekend or you can join us in Valdosta in August. We were told Tim Farr visited the Ocala track a few weeks ago with one of his 450's but it was on a practice night during the week. You mentioned a blue mini. I think you are referring to my boy, he is 6 and fearless. My bro helped me put the ponies in his ride and it gets it done. Thanks for the compliment. :)

Had we known he was going to be at Ocala a bunch of us would have gone a given him a friendly invite to come run with us. It doesn't matter who it is we just like to race with talent. Were you at Ocala on June 24th??? Don't worry about the other guys, everyone on here rags each other, I had my share too. :)

I expect to hear from the Valdosta owner tonight about an August date and I will post as soon as I know. I spoke with him this morning and he said they were in the middle of turning the track. Several of us were asking for a wider groove when we were there Saturday but unfortunately the Karts that run there regularly only make one groove because most of them believe the bottom isn't any good to race on. I was told they are going to be using calcium on the clay to hold the moisture better. Hopefully the groove will widen out and the track will get faster like it was when we went there in in June.

We have yet to get rained out at Ocala, so far so good, but the track has had some bad rains on days before we raced and they did their best to bring it back before we raced. Last I heard Sept 2 is the next Ocala date, still dont know the next Valdosta date.
