I have the bike for sale and a possible buyer and I want a recon. I had one that was a 2002 modle and I enjoyed it but we got rid of it 2 months after we got it. I want another but I have a few questions.

I remember that the suspension was awsome but i don't really remember the top speed. What does this top out at without red lineing it?

For people that own this machine, what do you think about it? Should I get electric shift or regular?

foot shift. we have a recon (foot) and a rancher (electric). i personally like the foot better. i heard that the electric has problems sometimes (never happened to us but others have had problems). the foot is just more reliable and fun.

Normal shift will last longer and is cheaper but, the ES is sooo much smoother and easier to use. And it'll run about 50mph. Gotta love the thing though, it just doesn't want to give up. We got mixed up on the quads yesterday running from a buddy for fun. My bro ended up on a buddies cat, while he and another guy got stuck on that poor little 250. Please note the guy who drives the cat weighs around 250 and the other guy weighs around 130. So there you go, about 850lbs speeding away at around 35-40 powered by a won't-stop-fer-nuthin' Honda 250 engine.

Bought one for my oldest boy several tears ago. He rode that thing in everything and never broke down. Can not keep brakes on it though. Great bike for a younger fella.

They are bullet proof.We have the foot shift and my boys take ours everywhere that the big Utes go. I just put a set of 25in Mudlites and a 2 inch lift and now it is unstopable. The funny thing is that I didn't even notice a difference in speed when I moved up 3 tire sizes.

The Recon is a great bike, it is really a TRX250 underneath, same motor, same drivetrain.  I have had mine up to the low 50mph.  Aftermarket stuff is harder to come by, but you can do basics like jetting and muffler.

With the auto clutch, having the ES or manual really doesn't make a big difference, but the manual is more like riding a sport bike in operation.  I have the ES, and had to replace the shift position sensor one time, but was not a big deal.  If you don't want to dump 6-8K into a bike, the Recon is a great choice.

Cool pic, we've got a video of me doing a jump like that with the quad. Underneath it all it feels alot like a sport bike. And It's awesome baking donuts in 3rd gear with the throttle floored.

Anyone know anyone that is selling one? Just got another call on mine.

fox17 got our Recon, and we owned if for 2 years, didn't let us down ONCE, and I'm talking not a glitch, hiccup, stumble or fumble, ran perfect for 2 years.  We were just looking for more power and suspension, so we got their DRZ400, very happy with the trade, thanks again fox.

My cousin has a 2001 Recon and it is bulletproof. It does get stuck a little bit more in the mud cause its stock and has a swing arm. But she rides the crap out of that thing. She'll hit a hole in first, hit the rev limiter and hit second without getting off the gas. Somehow it still runs and its been great. But let me warn you, the bike its self can handle some serious mud and abuse but if your going to see allot of mud you are going to want to replace the tires and lift it. Although one beat me in a mud race when i was on my dads polaris......Anyway its a great bike and very reliable.

i got one and its fun as hell to drive but mine has had alot of problems when ever it gose in water up to the floor bord it turns off and floods realy realy bad and when ever u start it it turns on but sputters and back rides too also same thing happins when wheelie it

I'd have to say, of the very few Brute forces of seen, none were driven by girls. I have seen grizzs driven by women though. :\

Hey, it may not be sporty, but we use it to help pull down trees when we cut them with the chainsaw. Did 3 20-25 footers yesterday. Not to mention the bed is great at hauling about 10-15 logs at a time. Believe me it's a workhorse, not a play toy. Even use it to haul our tandem axle trailer around the yard.

how much leg room does a recon have?
Im still trying to find the right ATv for me...price wise.
Im 6'2" would I have a problem or should I stick to a rancher?

my dad is 6'6" and he is sorta cramped on the recon. not too bad but for a long ride it might get uncomfy. we have a rancher too and its got plenty of room.

You would deffinately want a rancher or maybe even bigger at 6'2".
