i recently got a glimpse at one of the kymco atvs and i kinda liked the looks and noticed they have a pretty good price too. but does anyone have any info on them, ive seen the specs and stuff but i want some opinions

They're a chinese off-brand company. Not reliable.

Durhamtown Plantation rents them, so, how unreliable can they be? Or, maybe Kymco just sells them so dirt-cheap to rental operations that repairs are still cost-effective? Just like Yamaha does with PWCs!

Actually Kymco is not chinese. They are a tiwanese company. And dont say same difference cause tiwan's build quailty is like 50 times better than chinese. Anyway, Kymco is one of the best Tiwanese companies currently available. And your not buying pepboys. So if something goes wrong then your set. But they are not high performance. The largest bike they offer is the mxu 300 and the largest sport is the 250. But they are operator friendly and have an automatic trans. So they are great for someone just getting into the sport. They got reiability and price going for them. So if your a beginer then kymco is definitly worth a look. 8)

well im not a begginer...i had my fair share of dirtbikes and have a kawasaki lakota 300 as the family ride,(have to share with my lil bro and sis). I recently took two trips to ONF and am wanting to buy a ute atv. I have been set on the rancher but when i recently saw a kymco i kinda liked it, especially the price. i do know they are coming out with a 500 4x4 later this year. but if its not out by the time im read to get one i will settle with their 300.  the main reason for getting it would be for my girlfriend (so we wont have to double up and she doesnt have to shift) and just to have fun on. I got my 06 CR250 for whhen I need speed..hehe. So from what i hear so far it would be something to look into more.

does anyone know the top speed for the 250 or 300?

my Aunt has 2 of the 250's for abpout 2 years now and have had NO problems out of them ! The dealer she got them from even took the time to show her and 14yr old son how to change oil and some simple maintance stuff. So far so good for them !

My brother in law bought the Kymco Mongoose 250 about 5 months ago and he really likes it.  Its not really all that fast but its a really good starter bike.  About 3 months after he bought it he tried to jump it and he fell off the bike and the bike ended up flipping about two times.  He put it back on all fours and it started right up like nothing happened minus a couple of scratches on the plastic.  Changing the oil on that thing is super easy, they don't have the paper oil filters so you don't have to worry about buying a new filter every time you change it.  You just clean the metal screen filter, add more oil and you are set.  I am not sure about ordering parts for it since nothing has broken on his, but from the Kymco website it seems that there are a lot of places to order Kymco parts.  If your girlfriend is going to be mainly driving it, I would say that its the perfect bike for her, they're inexpensive and pretty reliable.  Just remember to tighten down all the bolts you can after a couple of hours riding it, I think the dealers assemble them at the shop before they put them on the floor.

Gator Ford on I-4 just east of I-75 sells them. They are great little quads. I have seen them ride the whoops on the powerline at bigscrub full throttle and not miss a beat. They are tough.

I bought a mongoose 250 for my wife, it is the only water cooled, full suspension, automatic cvt tranny , with chain drive on the market. Oh yeah did I mention it has disc brakes front & rear unlike the Suzukis or Hondas. It has run perfect for over a year now. They come with a full one year bumper to bumper warranty. The little 90's & 50's are easily modified also, they will haul azz without ever going aftermarket. I know all the tricks to make the little ones fast as heck & still run in stock classes. The 250 will get up to about 52mph WOT. Oh yeah, the Arctic Cat 250 , 90 & 50 models are now being produced by Kymco. Kymco is advertised in dirtwheels & they even did a full spread on the company & showed what a class organization they are & will become. My Kymco has performed flawless since I took it out of the crate. They are made in Taiwan by Kwang Yang Motor Corporation hence KYMCO. Sounds funny, but if Arctic Cat puts their name on them they must be stepping up. BTW Arctic Cat used to get quads from the same Taiwanese maker as Bombardier just for those who didnt know this & always seem to bash "off-brands". If anyone is interested in one I personally know 2 dealers in the west central FL area.

Actually the dealers only install the wheels, tighten the handlebars, bumper & battery. I have never found any hardware on mine loose or coming loose & I have never had to tighten anything. These quads are well built, I used to sell them at my store but insurance forced them out. If anyone has any questions I am sure I can help & I can probably put you onto a great price also. The dealer network is growing fast and as for parts, when we signed up to deal them, in our contract it stated that "ALL PARTS GUARANTEED IN STOCK, NO BACKORDERS" we never had a backorder, but we never needed any parts either except accesories & they arrived from Inman, SC promptly. That is where they are headquartered in the US. These quads are RELIABLE & they are great for the female beginner who dont want to shift & we all know drum brakes suck & dont last so the front/rear disc brakes are just more icing on the cake. I will buy another one, most likely the 90 for my son in the future. I can make that little 4stroke 90 go 40mph with no aftermarket add-ons, just by removing the CPSC restrictors. I sold a 90 to a guy once & his son was over 150lbs, he said it was too slow for the boy, but most 9yr olds arent 150lbs. I called Kymco & they instructed me how to remove the rev limiter & it went from 15mph to over 25mph just by removing a wire. There is a clutch restrictor in it that when removed it will reach 40WOT. That is awesome for a company to help you save a sale like that, they didnt have to. The little quads are great because they can grow into them & they use the same frame on the 90 & 50 so they are both big for their size & stable.

hey greenmachine, do you have any experience with the mxu models...I am loking into the 300  possibly the 250. I also hear they are coming out with a 500 4x4 sometime this year. Do you know any of the approximate speeds for the mxu's

The mxu will have the same speed as the mongoose, it is the same engine & chassis except for the suspension on the mxu, it is more for utility use(less travel) than sport use. You can get a rear rack for the mongoose, that is what my wife has with the rack & a rack bag on it, works great. I have no personal experience with the newer 300's, but I am sure they are what they say. The main difference of a kymco & a suzuki or honda is the water cooled engine adds some more weight, but I feel it is worth it, she dont race, just a weekend trail rider.

I have 3 Mongoose 250's and have had no problem with them.  We actual bought them new from DP so you don't have to pay tax or a crate fee.  We rented from DP 5-6 time over a couple of years and have never had a problem.  My 16 year old son flipped his once and we turned back and it started right up.  They are perfect if you want a bike that performs but doesn't cost alot of money.  They handle great on trails and in mud.  My wife loves to play in the mud at DP and it hasn't let us down yet.  But you did the right thing by asking around because you truly don't know until you talk to someone who has owned one and put it to the test.  Good luck.

No, we just recently bought ours.  We were at Croom a couple of weekends ago.

Since the topic got bumped I figured I would mention that Kymco now makes a 500cc 4x4 for under 6k full featured quad for a good price.
