Big scrub will be one of the first to close down and start building the maintained and marked trail system, as I was told by the ranger this weekend. He said they may leave the power lines open. He also motioned that anyone found in the mud or with fresh mud on them will get a 500.00 fine, which is in affect NOW! He also mentioned that you will be required to have your quad registered and have the sticker on your ATV or you may have your quad held until ownership can be proven. This is becoming California. This sucks, next you won’t be allowed to ride 2 strokes in the forest! in addition, ill bet they start writing tickets for loud pipes. It is up to all of us to respect where we ride and keep it clean and not pissoff others.

I keep hearing that too about scrub but when you know? I need to get that damn sticker but I bought my bike on Ebay and I can't get in touch with the guy I bought it from. I think I can do an affidavit. So we all go to Delancey now huh? Make that the new forest clusterf@*k. I see no reason to close the fire break trails. You can't hurt them. I agree with the mud rules. Makes sense.

better yet, what about the 20YO bikes..... hard to prove ownership on them...

Why can't they make a mud pit for the Utility's to play in?  That's what 4 wheel drive is for?  That's part of off-roading.  You take that away and there's no reason to have 4 Wheel drive anymore.  Were allowed to go in the mud at Big Cypress and Holeylands down here in South Florida which is owned by the State.  Why is it diffrent at Ocala?

I would bet sooner or later all of florida will be the same way. That is a good idea. to set aside an area for muddin as to not kill the other ares in the forest. We need to find out how to make that sugestin to the state. Any ideas?

I contacted Rick @ the Umatilla Seminole Ranger District and had an informative conversation. I will try to touch on as many items as I can remember with the first being when will the trial system or designated areas be set up for use. The answer was that there is no hard time line only an order from the top to be done by the end of next summer. Rick felt that this will be tuff to get done in the next year but it will be started soon. The issue of will it be an OHV area much like croom's or a trail system, he thought that it most likely wont be an area as for an area to be assigned the forest would have to acquire at least double the amount of land set aside to replace the wildlife habitat. The trail system will most likely be used, as it can avoid seneitive areas. The issue of what happens to the "big scrub" area well he said that it may not even be the trail head, and the location will have to meet the needs of both the trail and wildlife. The issue of 2 strokes has not even come up and may not be an issue for a while as they have many other things to do first. I also asked how ATVFLORIDA.com and its members get involved and his reply was there will be a forum for suggestions after a plan has drafted. He warned that they are only suggestions not a vote. He mentioned there are many groups and government departments as well as laws that have to be sorted out and make many suggestions hard to implement. I also asked how everyone can keep up with the progress we thought it would be a good idea to get the ATVFLORIDA website to give Rick a way and an area to post updates on this website. Is there a way to do this ATVFLORIDA? Also I would like to say lets not flood them with everyone calling and complaining lets start thing of ideas for riding and what trails we like the most. A great trail system I have been on and thought would be a good roll model would be the wambaw cycle trail

We may want to sugest other places like these to model our own trail system as they have a trail system that works great.I think that a well thought out suggestion will be taken more seriously than us all one by one calling. Thoughts? :-\

You'll want to talk to the National Forests in Florida (Tallahassee office) or the Lake George or Seminole Ranger District offices (Silver Springs or Umatilla).  I'm not sure who the specific contacts are at each of those offices, so I'm passing your note to our regional OHV Program Manager in Atlanta, Mary Hughes Frye.  She should be able to steer your inquiry in the right direction.

WOW, I realy thought more people would have had something to say. We need to come together to get as many and the longest trails possible. Has noone elese riddin another marked trail system that was good as a go by we can suggest to these guys?

ONF is the only NF i've riddin in so i dont have any trail systems that i can point out. I do know i'd like it to have some long stretches every once in a while for high speed riding, but also have some tight curvy trails for more technical style riding. The longer the trail the better. Just keep us posted on what you hear back from this guy so maybe we can get more people active on this.
