Title: help needed on cat laws
Post by: dynodon on May 01, 2006, 08:54:27 PM
I need some advice on cat laws in Fl., We are having some issues with the " new " neighbors cats roaming around freely, climbing on my trucks and SCRATCHING the shizot out of them. Keep in mind we have two LARGE dogs that go NUTS everytime these cats are in  our yard.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I would put something on your truck such as cayanne pepper or spread some hot pepper oil on it. That should take care of the problem.

Get a small game trap...Put some cat food in it...when you catch the cat either spray paint the cat Orange or Green and let it go... >:D....

                                    OR...

Drop the cage in the pool with the cat in it.... :o

Well, the guy and I went a couple of rounds last night, Threatening me that I made a big mistake by telling him that I was gonna "live trap" them and bring them to the pound.
I would love to let my dogs have them, but I was trying to be a good neighbor, and a responsible pet owner, unlike my new neighbor.
Guess I will have some of my buddies in the "department" give him a welcome to the "south" visit.
I would like any and all suggestions, By the way chillin----- they taste like chicken ;)

I've heard that a bow works great. Arrows are real quiet, so I hear. Your best bet is a fishing rig to ensure you get your arrow back....from what I've been told.

I had that problem in my old neighborhood. The last straw was when they started crappin on my front portch. Got one of those box traps and caught six of them in four days. Took them to the pound and threw them in the overnight lock box each morning before work.

Don't put the trap out until after everyone goes to bed and get up real early to check it. If you got one put the cage out of site until you can take the darn thing down to the pound. Also lock your cage up to a tree. Cat lovers will steal it.

Good Luck!

i did a search on google for you
When all else fails you can trap the cat in a humane way and transport it to an animal shelter. Make trapping a pet cat a last resort and check your local ordinances first!  In some communities, it is illegal to trap a neighbor’s cat even on your property.  Use a live trap baited with sardines or tuna spread on newspaper or a paper plate. Place the bait in the back of the trap so that the cat must enter the trap to get the bait. Check the trap regularly, preferably every hour. To keep from capturing animals such as raccoons and opossums, only trap during the day. Be very careful not to be bitten or scratched; stray or feral cats can carry rabies and other diseases. You can receive additional technical assistance on dealing with nuisance domestic cats through your local Humane Society or animal shelter.

Yeah, I told the guy last night that we were gonna live trap them , and take them to the pound. He flew off the handle and started threatening me with all kinds of stuff, this flippin idiot didnt know that a lve trap was NOT harmful to an animal!!!, he thought that I was talking about a carnivor, or " fox" type of trap ( city boy), anyway I am calling the animal control today, and some of my officer buddies to see what they can do

Just tell them that you are gonna video the cats on your cars scratching it and make him buy you a paint job. See what happens then.

You guy`s are killing me !!!!, I didnt really want to harm someones pet.
I have however talked with our local animal control, they said that LEGALLY, I have every right to LIVE trap an animal and bring it to the pound, however you cannot do harm to it.

Also, cats and dogs have the same rules, or laws9 from the animal control office in Citrus county)

Seriously, I have used live traps for coons, etc. in the past. I have a "Hav-A-Hart" trap and it works real nice. You can usually find them at any good feed store.

Take, them  hual them off to beach like place called cedar key
or applachcola, I know alot boaters would love have cats to cut down rats over there.

We used  have hunter dogs come on our land and sometimes
we just cross   over river into mayo and drop them off in middle nowhere land. lol  ;)

My firends, down south used to haul off dogs when started killing  their dogs and cats  in their font yard and
they hual them off to everglades and never came back since.

Did you know that stupid people without a sense of humor almost always bleed when you kick them in the head with a boot?

Don't be such a sissy! It was a joke! If you're that much of a wuss, how do you make it through every day? I mean sensitivity is one thing. Being ridiculous is another.

Now, go get your Mom to change your diaper, give you a new bottle and put you in your crib.  Meanwhile, I'm going cat hunting with Chillin, Gery350, Joedirt and Da_Mtg_Man.  We'll stay away from KawGIRL's cats beacuse they pack heat and I've already been shot once in my life. That's enough.

Don't be such a whoosy trx#9.
You have been here LONG enough to know everyone here makes jokes. To go and start calling people names and questioning their sexuality...? Get a life
I feel you have made every attempt (according to what you've written) to take care of this problem by going, like a responsible person, to your niegbhor. Since they are unwilling to help fix the problem by being responsible, you have every right to protect your property. That includes tghe paint job on your truck!
I trap for a living. Everything has been said as to trapping humanely. I would just stick a can of fancy feast in there. Forget spreading it out on a plate. LOL!
You may have to use the BB gun to herd them into the cage if all else fails.  :P

I used to live in town where a neighbor fed the wild ones. There were 30-40 running all over.I bought a live trap & went to work.I always tied the meat chicken legs or whatever for bait against the back cage. This way they have to paw at it & most time set off the trap.I trapped 28 cats before I moved. Some were as tame in a cage & some would rip your eyes out it was an obvious difference.

If your neighbors not responsible, trap it & get it to a place where they will fix it & re-adopt it.Most counties it is against the law to let any animal run free.Plus if your neighbor wants the cat back they will have to pay $$$ see how fast that fixes the problem.

The  animal control will come out within 24 hours to pick it up.If it is a Ferrel cat it will be put to sleep. If it is adoptable they will spay or neutar & adopt it out.The whole idea is responsible ownership.

I hate cats  because of this.Especially when the wild ones come into my yard with 4 German Shepheards to eat out of there food bowls in the garage! The last starw was broke after my dogs in my yard killed 5. The vet bills from deep scratches that theses wild cats will do was rediculous.

Good Luck.If you dont want to listen to me some of these other JOKERS had some Great ideas...LOL! ;D

Some funny stuff here.  LMAO!

The only cats I'm partial to are the fierce arctic cats that weigh about 700 lbs. and drink about 6.5 gallons of gas for breakfast.  Watch out for the green ones, they're a tough breed.   They wander the wilds of Florida, I hear.
