Title: Ocala Thunderbowl Quad Flattrack Sat May 13
Post by: HillKiller on April 23, 2006, 10:52:30 AM
Yes I know the 13th is 3 weeks away...why so long? Since the schedule change, Quads are now 2nd and 4th Sat and Winged Sprints are 1st and 3rd Sat...April began and ended on a weekend. Yes I know the Thunderbowl Speedway.com webpage schedule still hasn't been updated. I don't make the dates I only pass along the info from the track.

Entry totals from last night April 22nd:
 Beginner      13 entries
 Intermediate   8 entries
 Open              9 entries
 Peewee          3 entries
Unfortunately Lisa in registration left before I got the score sheets for the main events so I know less about this weeks results than last week but here's what I remember..as always if someone know more post it.

Beginner         1st Bennie              Honda 400

Intermediate   1st Gary Sisson      Suz 450
                      2nd Scooter            Suz 450

Open              1st Scott Sheffield   Honda 250R
                      2nd Tim Sisson       Yam 450
                      3rd  Dave               Banshee
                      4th  Brian                Honda 450
                      5th  Doug               Honda 450
                      6th  Raymond        Banshee
                      7th  Steven            Honda 450
                      8th Derek               250R            DNS
9th Gasgas Man     GasGas 300  DNS

Obviously I need help on the results from the other classes...

Total of 33 Quads, the highest turnout to-date. If the turnout continues to grow more classes may be formed. The track officials have also asked that some general rules be posted mostly regarding safety equipment. As of now mandatory equipment includes:
*boots
*helmet
   Recommended includes:
*eye protection
*gloves
*chect protector
*neck collar
It was pointed out to me that we, the quad guys, wear the least safety gear out of all the classes out there and we don't have a cage around us.  Steve (GasGasman) crashed hard. Hope you are doing well. I expect you will be banged up for a few days. Looked wild from my view.

There was alot of two and sometimes three wide racing especially in the corners which isn't something we haven't seen in past weeks. Tim, the track mgr, constantly works on the track throughout the night. He is always open to ideas. What did  everyone think about the track surface?

If anyone out there is just hearing or reading about the track and has questions send me a PM through this forum or post your questions, someone will answer. Cya next time.

I think when we ran the  2nd heat the track was near perfect!!
In main I was spinning 3/4 of the back Straight from it being to wet
All N all the track was pretty good last night! other than the 1:20 min intermission!
See everone in 3 weeks
Heel up round man
Oh and cant forget..........

GET IT RAGS!!

One note, they said in the drivers meeting the neck brace was optional.. but its a smart idea to have it.

I agree with scooter the track was really wet in the A main.  on the far side of the track there were 15x30ft puddles that would spray your shield everytime you went around. It was hell fighting the bike to keep it from looping in every corner but then again we griped about it being dusty... so got what we asked for.

The only two complaints i have is how late were getting out, I WILL have to cut out 50% of my races due to this or I will have to leave early. how long does the break need to be? they are only working 4 hrs! Also, if the races are supposed to start @7 then lets start at 7, not 8 or 830... They change our schedule and were still leaving as late??

they changed our schedule and I got home an hour later.  Thanks Chris for the exact measurements on the water puddles lol.  One suggestion might be to split the beg. class but once again this adds to the time we get home.  I agree with Chris we need to try to start at & and cut down on the intermission and I think things will go real smooth. I thought the track was the most consistant I have ever seen it but there again Tim put water down after every heat which adds to a late night.

                      2nd Tim Sisson       Yam 450
                      3rd  Dave               Banshee
                      4th  Brian                Honda 450
                      5th  Raymond         Banshee
                      6th  Doug               Honda 450

my opinion is we need an  A, B, C, and begginer class because some of those guys did not belong in class at all.

the track conditions were great in my opinion............1st time ever doing that type of racing but if it gets any better than that ill think im in heaven.

CUT OUT THE INTERMISSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its way to long and it seems unecessary considering they groom the track throughout the night.

thanks again........................

Doug,

It looks like Derek lost his crank. We will take it apart next Saturday but if he destroyed the bottom end we will be out for a good while. We might come down and just spectate in the meantime.

Dreth, Quad32, LTR450APK, and many others, sorry I didn't get to meet you. If you guys saw any of the open class race I was on the Yellow 250R. I was in staging when you guys raced so I really didn't get to see much racing either. Gary was out in front and looked good, but there was alot of close racing so it looks like the intermediate class has some tight racing. Our friend Pork Chop(Gary is his real name), had a blast in the beginner class and took hope 3rd in his first race ever on my 400EX.

GasGasman,

I sure hope your O.K. bro. That sure is a neat looking bike you have I had never seen one before last night.

as most of you know i've been a way from the track for awhile,  but that is going to change, it will be nice to out there with you guys again.
sat night was really interesting,  i saw a lot of improvement in a number of riders.   i don't thing i want to race against any of you guys or girls anymore  way to fast.
everyone please remember, its for fun, ride safe, ride clean.

if you guys will allow me a minute to toot the horn,  team ware,  tyler j. was riding as intense as ever, (he needs flat track tires)  i though dave was looking good when he got the banshee hooked up, and chris, riding my bone stock 250r, put that thing out front in the heat race and kept it there.  i am very proud of the way you guys conduct your selfs and the way you help other rides out, even when they are racing against you.

Derek330,

Sucks man. I stole one from you Saturday night, you had me for sure if you didn't break. I am going to make some changes with my setup and hopefully I can speed up to you man. Getting ready for the Nationals later in the year bro, I can't wait.

P.S.  Gary what does git it rag mean? That must be an inside joke.

Matt and LT450RApK,

Man I can't wait to see you guys battle it out on the track. Why don't you guys race in the Open Expert class? I thought the beginner and intermediate was for newer racers. The open has some real good clean quality racers. Everyone in that class is a very good rider, I hope some of you will hit up the Nationals with me later in the year. I plan on racing either Open A or Open Pro-Am depending on if I can lose some weight and get the rust off completely.

P.S. If you guys are coming May 13th, Derek and I will come and spectate for sure. Maybe then we can meet everyone here in person.

the crank journal ( the heavy part of the crank) broke into peices... i guess it had too much high rpm use!! :)

   Derek,
How many seasons did you get out of that motor anyway? Any chance you'll have it back together by May 13th? Now's you chance to add a few more ponies right? ;)

we are about the only ones on 250r's.
this may change real soon... 8)

Dave,

I might let him race mine on May 13th since I stole one from him Saturday. All we have to do is swap plastics. So you thinking about running a Honda? Cool man I love 250r's and I can give you alot more tips on how to get them to rip and dip. Is Chris going to be racing the Cali bike from here out with that bad boy 350PV? I think he will be protested out of the beginner class after he laps everyone....lol

Nah Chris has his own R with ESR power, the Cali bike may become my borrowed steed just so I can run the Twilight Twinkle-toes class with Gary and his 4 poke thumpin buddies, LOLOL, that way two strokes can win out all night in the upper classes!!!
I didn't get a chance to say much after the races, something came up so I had to scurry home, but I just wanted to say I had a blast in that second heat running with you. I have complimented Tim Sisson repeatedly about how clean and smooth a rider he is. He always give you room if he knows you are faster and he will hold his line instead of creating contact and you are much the same. The racing still gets the adrenaline up but its cool to know we can run head to tail or side by side (someday) and still go to work Monday :). Ya'll get back down asap.

Quad32x,

How does that 300 GasGas compare to a 250R? I have heard they put out good power stock. Does it handle well? I never got a chance to talk to gasgas man much and then he got hurt. I didn't get to see what happened I just saw the yellow flag and came around and saw him on the ground. Man that is some nasty looking bruises you have I hope its better than it looks. Anyways, see yall on the 13th.

I promise you'll see some good racing. All the guys in the Open Expert ride HARD. Just what I need to get ready for The Nationals in August. I am in bad shape and towards the end the guys are closing on me. BUT, I am training again so we'll see how I do next time out. ;)

P.S. I wish you had kept that Banshee I would love to take it out to play in the Open class that bike Flew and I got the weight to get it to hook. :ThumbsUp.gif

Durham, NC and Virginia?? Why can't they be any closer?? We just got back from Durhamtown in Ga, my fuel bill driving was $300 plus the campground plus food plus race fuel...this hobby is expensive. Maybe we could all pitch in on a bus, split some cost etc...

 Scott,
I noticed the National series has a cash payout of 80%. How does that work?  What size is the Birch Creek track in Va?

Title: Re: Ocala Thunderbowl Quad Flattrack Sat May 13
Post by: dreth on May 02, 2006, 05:17:15 PM
well unfortunatly due to the rise in everything.......fuel, materials and such my buisness is being greatly affected. the job prices are going up and people are not wanting to pay for things they dont need. they will pay for things they have to have but right now they are watching their money. so this is causing me to have to call it quits for a while :( i just bought an enclosed trailer and everthing so my family could come up to all these races and stay the night. we had a blast but after my vacation this coming week i wont be able to go anywhere until these substaniated price gouging rich people give us a break :( the 4 hour drive one way aint cheap.

so i agree with fastlefturn............this is getting real expensive real quick. you guys that live close and can still afford to go i wish you all luck and please race safe.

Dave,

Yeah that what I was thinking we could bring Team Thunderbowl up in a rented BIG RV and split the costs of everything between all of us so it would be cheap(er). Then someone else with a big trailer could maybe carry everyones bikes, tools etc with a pickup following the RV. North Carolina isn't really THAT far away and we could even rent some cheap motels if everyone gets sick of the RV.

I didn't know that there was a %80 payback but man I guess that purse money sure would come in handy to pay for the trip. I don't know the exact size of the track but I can findout and try to make a practice track that resembles its dimensions. Mike Walsh (Walsh Racecraft) was telling me that they have oval racing on friday night and then TT racing on Saturday at the National races. I have never raced at that track before but I am sure we will be able to quickly adapt to it. The National tracks I hear are immaculately prepped.

No objection from me because I already have bars but if two quads without bars get together it could get ugly. The track officials haven't mentioned any specifics about bike safety equipment, just safety equipment for the rider...boots, helmet, etc.
what are you talking about scooter?
I think he is referring to nerfbars being on backorder because his bike is a first year model...

typical 2-strokes always rebuilding them. 4-strokes the best buy them, build them, maintance on them, and beat the he!! out of some 2-strokes on them lol.

your right Dave 9 days left till you get spanked again.oh yeah I forgot to tell you sorry about me making you drive so far and use so much gas just to get spanked twice in a row. hahahahaha

Gary,

MY crank is from 1997. Most everything in the bottom end is 18 years old now. I have never done anything else to it. It still runs good I just don't want to wait till its too late.

By the way, I haven't been beat by a 4 -stroke.............ever.(yet) I am training again and you guys haven't seen my best yet. I'm in terrible shape but I am going to work this fat off and then I can represent (in the house) hehe.... I think I said that right.

Looks like you've got to hold up the 2-stroke pride in the Intermediate class on May 13th. I'll be pulling for you.

I am going to let Derek race my bike while we wait for CT to ship us the new crank for his. I am going to just spectate and cruise around and meet everyone. When we get his rebuilt we are tearing down mine for a complete overhaul after his is done.

typical 2-strokes always rebuilding them. 4-strokes the best buy them, build them, maintance on them, and beat the he!! out of some 2-strokes on them lol.

your right Dave 9 days left till you get spanked again.oh yeah I forgot to tell you sorry about me making you drive so far and use so much gas just to get spanked twice in a row. hahahahaha
Wow those race fuel fumes are really screwing you up and dont forget if my backside was the size of yours my tires wouldn't spin so much...hahahahaha

I just got that phone call too. The story is the track will be open to quads this Sat as a NON-Points night so anyone who wants to race can. The regular schedule hasn't changed, still racing 2nd and 4th Saturdays.

Check the other Ocala thread for some news on rules. I heard the race tonight got started at 7:30, the intermission was only 30 mins and racing was done by 10pm. Finally, the racing should start running on schedule each week so we can all get home on time and have a good Sunday without dragging butt all day. ;D

Try RockyMountainATV.com. An order placed on Monday should be here by Friday. As far as local shops you could try Barneys in St Pete or Brandon or OAS at the Croom entrance.

Chris, No I thought you were going to stay in the beginner then move up later. The rivalry between Gary and Dave has been heating up and I figured you would want him to beat gary on your bike since Gary calls you out in his signature. (suzuki-dookie that ware 07 can't beat)

Well DELMAR (Gary) has no idea of the whipping he is in for. Not only will he get smoked in the open and knocked back to the beginner class but I am  thinking of bring the slow ol Cali 250 with nearly half the cc's and smoke him with that too. Won't be at this race but maybe by the next that way you'll have plenty of time to worry :K :gr :F :gh :cursing.gif

I know how fast our 330's are Derek and I can't even imagine how much faster the 370PV  :bow.gif engine is than ours. If that bike handles like ours (Heck its a 250R too) then it can't be beat. He should holeshot and never look back.

P.S. Gary, I am going to begin testing with the 450R. If I can get it as fast(er) than my 330 then I will run it in the open class. I have an anonymous expert on 450R's that I spoke to earlier in the week. He gave me some tips on the best cam and piston and then it should haul.

Chris,

Hehe man well what Doug told me is kept tight lipped. His bike runs good, I battled with him plenty in the 1st heat. That 450 will run. The problem I am having in initial testing is that the stock 450R gates very poorly(my 330R KILLS it). It is right now hardly faster off the line than my 400EX. Once moving though it goes O.K. I am doing some research and I think I know how to make it much better without overkill mods.

P.S.  What's up Doug and thanks for the tips. See everybody on Saturday.
