Title: Ocala National Forest Post by: Da_Mtg_Man on February 08, 2005, 05:25:56 PM Today I had a very long conversation with the Wilderness and Trails Recreation Program Manager for ONF. He was very helpful and explained what is going on with the trail system in the forest. He also said that the implication of the new trail system will not work without our help. He proposed that we formed some sort of a group that will be involved closely with the ranger district. From what I understood, This group would be a liason between The Ranger District, atvflorida.com, FTR and the NOHVCC (National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council ). He also stressed that there is no trail system in ONF. There are simply trails that are in the forest that everyone uses. This is the reason why there is no trail on the other side of some of the numbered roads.It is not ok to cross a numbered road and ride down the side (any distance) to the next trail head.We as a group need to police the area and inform people of restricted areas.There are a lot of people that do not obey the laws of the forest and the rangers need help in this area.
For those of you that can,please step up and help us get a group together. I will be in contact tomorrow with a gentleman that is very involved with the FTR and is also involved with the NOHVCC. He is an avid hunter and knows the woods very well.. That really sucks and hopefully they get him soon was planning on camping next weekend with my family..
