Title: Venom winches Post by: Keeter on March 08, 2006, 07:06:27 PM I have seen the question several times on the board. Are the winches under $200 any good. Well, the winches from Venom winches are the real deal. I bought a 3000 from ebay and have used it 10-15 times to pull my 720 lbs Polaris and my 325 lbs butt out the mud. I had an issue with a couple of parts but the folks from www.venomwinch.com have sent me the new parts no problem. For the money they are well worth it, check them out. :drink.gif :bow.gif
Title: Re: Venom winches Post by: MachineDog on March 09, 2006, 12:00:30 PM Hmm, looks good to throw on my recon. My dad's starting to get restless of pulling me out of the water all the time. lol
Title: Re: Venom winches Post by: BOOOKIE on March 10, 2006, 11:42:22 PM They look like a decent product. Did you install it yourself, or had a pro do it for you ? Just wondering how difficult it would be to install.
Title: Re: Venom winches Post by: Bo322 on March 11, 2006, 11:06:23 PM Get the winch and I'll put it on for ya Boookie
Title: Re: Venom winches Post by: Keeter on March 12, 2006, 08:12:10 PM Took about 20 minutes to intall on my Sportsman.
Title: Re: Venom winches Post by: Bigscrb15 on March 12, 2006, 09:28:55 PM I bought a really cheap winch on EBAY, it was $35 brand new and I then bought the mounting plate and handlebar switch. I have had no problems with it yet.
Title: Re: Venom winches Post by: Joedirt on March 13, 2006, 11:22:03 AM Yeah I got a 40$ cheap-o from Harbor Freight , with a warranty....works fine...was covered in mud and submerged....we shall see. :Approve.gif
Title: Re: Venom winches Post by: duroc825 on March 26, 2006, 06:31:33 PM I bought the same one from Harbor Freight plus the $5 1 yr warranty. Glad I bought the warranty! Cable came off the spool (too big of gap at spool edge) when I was trying to pull my Foreman 500 out. Spool cracked in half (cheap pot metal I guess). Anyway Harbor Freight honored their warranty with no problems. I have since invested a little more in a Superwinch and basically have a decent backup I guess. Like everything else it worked great before it broke!
Title: Re: Venom winches Post by: AmericanRobster on December 16, 2006, 08:58:46 AM Those are some nice winches.

Can't seem to get stuck and actually try it though. :)

Nothing beats a comealong, unless you never go in the water and mud and only use it to skin hogs IMO. Title: Re: Venom winches Post by: SWAMP_DONKEY on August 13, 2007, 08:06:47 PM Great thread. I dont know I have had Warn on all my Jeeps and 4 wheelers..also Mule, Rhino and Ranger all had Warn....NEVER had an issue. I bought a Superwinch for the Jeep I am building now so I will let you know how she works out. Title: Re: Venom winches Post by: r6realtor on August 14, 2007, 12:58:38 AM I have a venom 3000# on my rhino and it has been flawless, Great product for under $169 to the door with the mounting plate! I finally got a reese hitch mount winch, I kept it high and dry then when I need it pull it out and slide it in. Never had any problems. I know this really doesn't apply in these cases, but it is something to think about.
Title: Re: Venom winches Post by: Palmettobay_recon on August 16, 2007, 02:37:33 PM I have a venom 2500 on my big bear...awesome product submerged all the time, got alot of work at mudfest it pulled out at least three rhinos and rangers in mud past the floorboards. Well worth the money.
Title: Re: Venom winches Post by: AmericanRobster on August 17, 2007, 12:14:03 AM I got a brand new Warn 2,500 pound winch on Sunday from the Suzuki dealer in Sarasota that had the tent event. I can't wait to install it.
Title: Re: Venom winches Post by: rb-86 on January 10, 2008, 04:45:44 PM I have a 2500lb mile marker winch. Have had it for a year now and used it a million times. Had it submerged in water and in mud pretty much every ride. Never had a problem or given it maintanence (other than pulling the line out every once in a while to make it tight again). Bought it for 160 and installed it myself. Mile marker is the brand the military uses and they actually fabricate parts for warn.

Title: Re: Venom winches Post by: Keeter on January 29, 2008, 02:28:36 PM They are all over ebay but I suggest that you go on ebay and buy a wireless contactor from Gorilla. The Gorilla wireless contacter is sealed and works great and durable.
Title: Re: Venom winches Post by: Palmettobay_recon on January 29, 2008, 02:41:32 PM well my 2500 finally died after last weekend. it had a good long run before it decided to quit. Im definately buying another Venom
Title: Re: Venom winches Post by: retiredw3 on February 08, 2008, 07:55:37 PM I would like to say that I recently ordered a Venom 2000lb winch kit for my 03 Sportsman 400 and everything worked except the contactor was defective. After notifying Venom Winches they had a new one in my mailbox in 4 days(including the weekend)at no cost to me.I think their customer service and prices are Great.I'd certainly recommend them to anyone :)
Title: Re: Venom winches Post by: Size Matters on February 26, 2008, 07:02:16 AM I have a Venom 2000,2500,3000 on each of my ATV's(Rancher,Rubicon,Rincon) and I think there great ,had no problems so far going on a 1 year. Easy to install, Price. I recommend
Title: Re: Venom winches Post by: budman on February 26, 2008, 09:24:22 AM I know a guy, who had one of those Venom winches out at holey land that stripped the gears and had to wrap the cable around the front rack. I believe Laura had to pull his P.O.S out of that mudhole.....
Title: Re: Venom winches Post by: Keeter on March 04, 2008, 12:50:34 PM I had a 3000 that I took apart because I thought the gears were stripped. Turns out I did not tighten the crew on the end of the cable enough. The cable slipped on the spool. DUH!
The gears looked pretty strong to me when I had it apart. Went back together no problem. I still use it today, 3 years later. Title: Re: Venom winches Post by: jrpro130 on March 04, 2008, 02:03:46 PM I just bought another one, we had a bad experience with a 4000 (it wasn't advertised as sealed, we thought it was) so we burned that one, now my buddy runs the 3k on his, no problems.
I broke my warn last ride pulling a rhinny out of the hole...I cracked my winch in 3 places. Not good. Needless to say it was 116 for a venom 3000...I'll try my luck Title: Re: Venom winches Post by: bwfish on June 27, 2008, 05:38:37 PM I have 2 venom 3000 no issues to date. Normally iff it will power in or out only when installed new. Try switching the pin you have the hot and ground connected on 1 side of the connector and should solve the issue without waiting on another one from venom.
Title: Re: Venom winches Post by: MadMudder on July 01, 2008, 01:02:48 AM I bought one from them about a year ago. So far its been perfect. Picked up a 2500 one shipped to my door for $116.00. I ride mud allot and its been submerged, caked in mud, beaten on cypres stumps and trees and even made pulls from underwater. Still works right now. I dont even take good care of it. It was really easy to install and whats funny is the contactors will work with warn winches too. Overall great product and I would defently reccomend to anyone looking to buy one.
