Title: Re: what's the best way to clean mud? Post by: Ida_Mann on March 05, 2006, 07:20:02 PM no pressure washer cause you never know what kinda damage might be done doing that.
Simple green,,,I soak the quads all over and use a brush when needed,,,,rinse very well and then dry off,,,,,,after they are completely dry, I soak them again with WD-40. Id@ Title: Re: what's the best way to clean mud? Post by: klutchbuster400 on March 05, 2006, 07:20:29 PM more mud ;)
Title: Re: what's the best way to clean mud? Post by: lonewolf310 on March 05, 2006, 07:40:22 PM I spray my atv before i go rideing with wd-40 makes washing up a lot easyer.
i also wash it with car soap that has wax in it, about $3.99 a bottle makes cleaning a breez. Title: Re: what's the best way to clean mud? Post by: bbf on March 05, 2006, 07:45:52 PM i just spent 3 hours cleaning my atv its like cement . lots of water and simple green
Title: Re: what's the best way to clean mud? Post by: Chillinthemost on March 05, 2006, 08:19:04 PM Do what most the utility guys do. When you're done mudding just drive it into a pond and let it soak for a while.
Personaly, I never wash mine. It will turn it into a sissy bike. Title: Re: what's the best way to clean mud? Post by: wilburz on March 05, 2006, 08:22:59 PM Could a swar I drove by your crip and you were cleaning yer bike in some leopard print leatard whilst listenin to Maddona?

Post by: Chillinthemost on March 05, 2006, 08:30:34 PM Could a swar I drove by your crip and you were cleaning yer bike in some leopard print leatard whilst listenin to Maddona? You drove by too fast, you got it all wrong. That was a tiger stripe leatard and I was only cleaning the seat to keep my panties clean ;)Title: Re: what's the best way to clean mud? Post by: Honda328i on March 05, 2006, 08:41:18 PM Tooth brush and tooth picks work well, and fine white linens with this soap imported from the UK, only the best will do ;D
j/k. Best is not to let it get too dried on. Soak it down really well first, and like Ida, I like Simple Green. Stuff is so mild you can drink it. (Have never tried) ;D Pressure washing can get water up into the carbs and fuel system, or the air intakes, not a good thing. Might be ok for knocking off the tires and suspension, but stay away from the engine. Elbow grease is always the best. Good luck! Title: Re: what's the best way to clean mud? Post by: Barcusfoto on March 05, 2006, 09:15:52 PM the best thing I have found is the cleaner that just-add-dirt.com sells. All I do is hose down the quad, spray this stuff on, let it sit a few minutes then rinse it off. Very little if any scrubbing. No film or scum is left behind nor water spots. My quad is yellow and has never seen a sponge or brush of any kind in the year that I have had it. This stuff is great and you can use it to clean your muddy clothes as well.

Post by: CamoPrairie on March 05, 2006, 09:25:42 PM Spray the whole bike down with Simple Green (undiluted) and just spray it off with a hose. Once it dries spray the whole bike down with silicone spray - it won't eat any seals up and does good on all the plastics and metal.
Title: Re: what's the best way to clean mud? Post by: Moose on March 05, 2006, 09:32:44 PM Do a search on cleaning your quad, and you will be amazed at what comes up. Should answer any of your questions.
Title: Re: what's the best way to clean mud? Post by: Kawa3 on March 05, 2006, 10:11:58 PM dish soap pulls the oils out of the plastic and makes it fade from what i am told.

Title: Re: what's the best way to clean mud? Post by: kawGIRL on March 06, 2006, 04:11:44 PM Greased Lightning straight up in a 1 gallon sprayer ;)
Just don't leave it on alum for more than 10 seconds. Good to go ;D Afterwards spray on the Wax as you dry stuff in the red bottle, can't remember the name? Post by: GrizzlyGator on March 06, 2006, 05:18:22 PM First I pressure wash all over, then Regular dishsoap and a little scrubbing, then pressure wash again, then spray entire atv down with greased lightning let it sit for a few minutes then pressure wash 1 more time, last but not least spray entire atv down with armorall it makes it a lot easier to clean next time ;D , I know others do it differently but this works for me!!! ;)
Title: Re: what's the best way to clean mud? Post by: indianjoe on March 06, 2006, 05:28:47 PM Like KawGir said Greased Lightening, then wash it down and then I cover mine with Armorall.l
Title: Re: what's the best way to clean mud? Post by: Chevy1500z71 on March 06, 2006, 05:59:27 PM a freind of mine said if u spray baby oil on ur bike it all sticks to the baby oil and rinses rite off,no stains
Title: Re: what's the best way to clean mud? Post by: LakeMaryKid on March 06, 2006, 08:16:33 PM If you want your aluminum looking good DO NOT USE greased lightning. It will tarnish it and make it a yellow tinge.
Title: Re: what's the best way to clean mud? Post by: bigscrub79 on March 06, 2006, 10:52:10 PM I use Zep Citrus Degreaser, I mix it 50/50 with water and spray it on everything. I leave it on for about 10 minutes then pressure wash it off. I have yet to have a problem with it. It hasnt tarnished any aluminum or messed up anything else.
Title: Re: what's the best way to clean mud? Post by: rubicon500kid on March 07, 2006, 06:15:01 AM i gave up cleaning mine cuz sum 1 is always taking it out and if i clean it one night the next when i get home its muddy lol
but when i do clean it (like now its clean) i use a mix of simpel green,Greased Lightening, water and dish soap it works good Title: Re: what's the best way to clean mud? Post by: PLAYBOY_400 on March 07, 2006, 08:35:37 AM I HAVE TRIED ALOT OF DIFFERENT WAYS TO CLEAN THE MUD OFF. BUT THE BEST WAY I HAVE FOUND SO FAR IS TO USE A HIGH PRESSURE NOZZLE ON THE HOSE AND GET ALL THE BIG CHUNKS OF MUD OFF. THEN SPRAY DOWN THE FRAME AND ENGINE WITH 88 DEGREASER. AFTER THAT YOU CAN PRETTY MUCH JUST DRY IT OFF AND SPRAY IT DOWN WITH WD40. ASIDE FROM MY PLASTICS ALL SCRATCHED UP FROM THE TRAIL RIDES IT LOOKS BRAND NEW. LIKE SOMEONE SAID ALREADY THE PRESSURE CLEANER WORKS GREAT BUT IT TAKES AWAY STICKERS.
Title: Re: what's the best way to clean mud? Post by: Teej on March 07, 2006, 01:00:40 PM Make it easy on yourself before hand, especially if you are going to be riding in GA clay. Go to Walmart and buy their generic brand of WD40 [you are going to spray it off, might as well buy cheaper stuff] and spray everyting down except your grips and seat. All the mud and dirt will spray right off. And the sooner you wash off the better..........
Speaking of generic's. I just found out that NAPA makes it's own brand of Chain Lube. It is a lot cheaper than the chain lubes the bike shops try to sell you. I am all for saving money and making cleaning easier. Teej Title: Re: what's the best way to clean mud? Post by: kawGIRL on March 07, 2006, 01:14:12 PM If you want your aluminum looking good DO NOT USE greased lightning. It will tarnish it and make it a yellow tinge. If you wash it off within 10 seconds it is fine ;) Title: Re: what's the best way to clean mud? Post by: Joedirt on March 07, 2006, 01:34:15 PM Well I have found that a good pre rinse to get the chunks off then some kind of cleaner under on the frame and such....another good rinse... soap and water with a hand sponge.....in every spot...rinse then a spay down with Tire foam....keeps it shiny and mud washes off a lot better...
