Post by: SlowestYfz450 on February 27, 2006, 10:05:13 PM
I have had this gone for a long time, it was a hand me down of a hand me down.  I have no paper work on it but I haven not been able to find anymore of these guns. I want to know what its worth out of curiosity...... here are some pics, its a H&R smith an wesson .38, not a .38spl. a S&w .38!

saw on google that a model like that just sold for $130 at auction. If it was handed down to you though I am sure it is worth WAY more than that to you.

yea it is worth ALOT to me, but I just bought a car from this guy, turned out he lied to me and it needs so much work and i cant afford it. Its knocking really hard and i cant figure out what it is, and im sure its too expensive. at first thought it was the lifter and maybe the timing chain but not sure..... thats the only reason i am considering selling it, but i have been offered more for it then what google says so maybe ill wait

If it means alot to you, DO NOT SELL IT. You will kick yourself in the butt  later on. Find some other way to get the money.

Dont part with it , thats a rare piece . Thats a .38 S&W aka .38 short and the H&R name brand is no longer around. They've been revived as NEF ,New England Firearms ,manufacturing limited models of long guns and I believe they dropped the revolvers.

Definitely no pawn shops  please.
Good Luck

That gun was manufactured by Harrinton & Richardson, Inc. in Gardner, MA from 1968 until 1982 in both .22LR and .38 S&W. 100% condition is $130.00, 98% - $120.00 and down to $50.00 for 60% condition.

However, if it's handed down, it's worth a ton more than any 100% condition price. Keep it if you can.

These guys are right. For a handed down gun you'll never get enough for it. Even if someone offers you more than it is worth in dollar amounts, you'll regret selling it sometime later. If it's only going to improve your financial situation by a couple hundred bucks, just borrow the money instead of letting go of a family heirloom. Good luck with the car.

Personally, I would never sell a gun. Especially a hand me down.  Never know when you can't get any more.

whats the condition?
dang near perfect. Clean the barrel and it has a little rust spot on the barrel. but it will come out with gun oil and some elbow grease, never even know it was there
