BRC ACTION ALERT

SEND LETTER TODAY !!!

Preserve and Promote Historic OHV Recreation at Northern California Beach Area

The Center for Biological Diversity and other anti-recreation groups are working overtime to kill family-oriented OHV recreation at Tolowa Dunes in Northern California.

The California OHV Division has been meeting with local recreationists and trail groups to discuss the preservation of historic OHV beach access near Crescent City.

Anti-access groups have started a hate-mail campaign asking California State Parks to ignore the recent vote by the Del Norte County Board of Supervisors that supported multiple-use recreation, including OHV use, at this site.  In fact, the Center mentions the efforts of the BlueRibbon Coalition and Open Beaches and Trails to promote responsible OHV recreation in this area.

Please email a letter today to the director of California State Parks, Ruth Coleman, asking her to support continued collaborative efforts by the OHV program and local users regarding this issue.  The email addresses and a sample letter are at the bottom of this email.  Please send it now.

Thanks for your efforts!
Don Amador
Western Representative

Ruth Coleman, Director
California State Parks

Dear Director Coleman:

Please support the efforts of the Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division, local access advocates, and Open Beaches and Trails to work in a collaborative manner regarding the preservation of historic family-oriented off-highway vehicle (OHV) recreation at Tolowa Dunes in Northern California.

As you know, the Del Norte County Board of Supervisors supports multiple-use recreation, including OHV use, in the Tolowa Dunes area and has directed staff to work with the Del Norte County Fish and Game Commission to draft a letter of said support that also includes more OHV law enforcement.

Continued efforts by access interests to provide for managed OHV recreation at Tolowa Dunes is in compliance with the California Public Resources Code Section 5090.02 (c)

Managed OHV recreation use at Tolowa Dunes is an important and historic use.  Please support efforts to preserve OHV recreation at this site.

Sincerely,

got a reply back already:

"Thank you for your email expressing concerns regarding management
decisions relative to vehicular access at Tolowa Dunes State Park.  We
appreciate the variety of opinions people have regarding the park and
this important issue. We recognize off-highway vehicle operation at
this location is an activity that has both critics and supporters, each
with strongly held convictions.

One of the Department's management goals at Tolowa Dunes State Park
is to strike a proper balance between the competing priorities of
providing high-quality recreational opportunities while ensuring the
protection of the park's natural and cultural resources.

A public workshop is scheduled for February 3, 2006 at which time
state parks and other public officials will discuss the management of Tolowa
Dunes State Park.

      When:    February 3, 2006

      Where:   Elk Valley Community Center
         2298 Norris Avenue
         Crescent City, CA 95531

      Time:   6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Again, thank you for your interest and concern. We hope to see you at
the upcoming public workshop.

Sincerely,

Ruth Coleman, Director
California State Parks"

When they start trying to save MY local riding spot, then I might think about it.

When they start trying to save MY local riding spot, then I might think about it.

Well you never know if one of these days some of us leave FL we might need some other places to ride outside the state. But I can understand you feel. I am not doing it for them tho but for myself because one less spot to ride no matter where it is just sucks.
