Title: 2000 Polaris Sportsmen 500 Electrical Problems
Post by: innocent_bystander on January 23, 2006, 03:41:15 PM
Well was out riding this past weekend and ran into some problems with the 4x4. I just wanted to get some opinions b4 I take it in to be fixed.

Here's the run down. My battery went dead. It is a brand new battery that was charged before I rode. I was able to pull start my quad and run it, it didnt stall and ran just fine. I didnt have any head lights or instrament panel. I had no lights but the spark plug was still firing. The fan for my radiator would not run, I could hear it get weaker and weaker as the battery died, untill it stopped all together. Safe to say I had temp problems.

I have a couple ideas of what the problem is but just wanna see if anyone has better insight.

the battery might be sh*t or the charging system is not working. there is a black box under the front nose piece. it will have three wires going to it, i think they are yellow. i have seen over and over again the wires corode off at the connections. pull on them at the connections be make sure they are ok. if they are ok check them to see if that box is working right. t takes ac volts and turnes it into dc volts. the thre yellow wires should read 50 to 200 ac volts just depends on rpm. all three should read these specs. the red wire should have 13 volts. you will need a muti meter to check this.
