Title: Protest Date?
Post by: 1FasterBlaster on January 17, 2006, 12:23:01 AM
I have read alot of positive and negative sides to the riding area's coming under fire. I know there are a large number of us who are serious about riding.
I would like to initiate a day to go to Ocala-since it is the largest area to riders-and alert the media for the reason we are gathering. The real and only way to bring our concerns into the public eye, is if we show up together and rally for our rights.
We need to stop talking and do something as one large community of tax paying citizens who enjoy our passtime hobbies and not let them make us out to be the leading cause of foresty destruction.
If anyone else would  seriously like to do this ...please call me.I know many riders!!

Remeber the news media and the environmentalist are against you. Unless you know someone in the media. The news media will slant the news for whomever pays their bills, and you have to make sure everyone will be law and order, one person cuts up, it will be all over for us.

Maybe a better approach to this is to do an atv cleanup in the forest, and get the news media there. Do something positive to get the media's attention.

If that's what it needs to be, then we should organize it.

NFS  might have a point about the media...it can back fire on us in a bad way.

Lets get the ball rolling for the trash clean up....invite the media

also we can take a lot of pics....post them on this board so others and lurkers can see what we have done.

We should get one new guy and pay him $1000 bucks or something to tell the truth. I am down and can account for about 50 riders sometime in FEB or MARCH

The record of decision has been signed, which means there is an appeal process of 45 days, environmentalist are going to appeal against the atv's I can guarantee that. If you screw this up, you will never get a place to ride, it will be the environmentalist who will close the forest. Remember what you do reflects on what everyone else.

The trail system is going in, if the appeals are ruled out. What i am saying is don't stage a protest for at least 105 days... it will work against you. You have worked this hard, don't screw it up.

If you stage a clean up, and the news media is invitied make it away from big scrub or delancy. The media will capitalize on it. Another thing you can do is if the media says no way, write a small article in the opinion section of your local newspaper.

Perhaps you can enlighten us with some other ideas. I agree with what you say but not agreeing with what I said and not providing any viable options does not help. Lets toss some ideas around.

I am not saying don't protest at all I am saying not within this 105 day period. If the trail system goes in, the forest has the right to evaluate it within 6 months, according to the record of decision. That could mean you lose the forest no matter what, it could also mean that the trails will stay.

If you protest do it peaceuflly and make sure it is done peacefully. When you guys are camping and there is alot of you, see how many people have instruments, hold a little concert.

Perhaps a famous ATV rider signing autographs somewhere. I gave you a few suggestions.

Maybe it is time for an atv florida club.

Do some print outs flyers and go  to atv dealers in your
areas and ask them why are you doing protest.I know
dealers want to sell their atvs to keep them running out business.
I saw on tv last week on dch on stunt junkies and the rider said:he supports
the atv sport. :)

I saw John Natalie racing his quads at Croom. Maybe we should try to get some of the pro's to help represent. They come down here to practice cause it's cold up north. I'm sure they appreciate having a place to ride in Florida!!

american highlander..et al.............
OK.......a protest can be effective.................but when someone puts a camera in your face and starts asking questions,, you goona be ready?
I guess highlander is in charge of this rally/protest.
are permits required?  When these spanish radio staions show up and ask how many people are in your organization.....are you going to quote the members on this site?  (since it is not yor organization....that would be lying).  When they ask what you are protesting and what do you want........you are going to say?   (put your quote here).
Will you be able to tell them how many acres have been set aside for ATVs in 2005?  How many acres taken away?  Will anyone in Florida gov't know your name because they have seen your e-mails or by you calling them?
Sorry, but you can not just show up in Tallahassee with 15 quads   (8 with LOUD pipes, 5 of them popping wheelies and doing doughnuts) and expect to make and impact on our states legislatures.
It is hard enogh to get 15 people to respond to this post......and of those 15....who will go to Tallahassee?
This is a terriffic idea.......but I do not think you are planning at all.
HECK! I would love to have my picture on FOX news...riding my Grizzly up the capital steps, but once I got up to the top (not that the capital police would let me stay long), I would like to have my crap together so as to make the most of my interview with Geraldo Rivera.

You have to have a GOAL,    THEN,       plans to get to the goal.

:) Well thoses environmentalists  are the same people
keeping oil rigs out of the gulf mexcio.

So becareful of the environmentalists  these are high class
rich manics like close to many riding areas and these people
don't have a life and just sitting around office and making up
these news reports in media to make our look bad in every way.So don't belive
what environmentalists  say on the news and somtimes they
like try to trash the media on tv and sometimes
they like blow out place on tv.
Some of  environmentalists are qucks in this
world here and some other states are not
too banned on riding areas alot.

Thanks,

Well if they try banned atvs in this state and alot people
will be protesting soon and if they keep closing riding areas
down and alot people will be doing alot protesting in the near future.
I don't care if about video cams in your face at least they telling truth
how the nat forest is and the way goverment is.Well if they keep
banning alot stuff on atv riding rights and then people will have to protest or not.
If they wanna keep their sport alive then you got make diffrents of it. ;)

I hope you protest sometime this year or next year. You got make your
goals in life and fiting the puzzel right.I understand people need their
riding rights back.. :)

We are not talking politics here, there is no reading between the lines. We just want to express as free citizens that we enjoy our recreational activities and would like to keep them. As for the masses, I'm sure we outnumber the wheelie poppin idiots.
You don't need to study to be able to say I pay taxes and I payed for this fourwheeler and would like to enjoy my free time riding it . I work , pay taxes, and that should be enough to give me the right to ride. If a bunch of people can get together and ride for the right not to wear helmets on the road, we should be able to do this!! I'm sure if we let people know what this protest is for, everyone will agree to why we need to do it and will act accordingly.

Maybe there is two way to do this. Protest in Tallahassee but Chuck Roast is right, make sure you get it together because it is not only about you and your feelings but everyone. If you look like a jerk, the rest of the ATV community looks like a jerk.

;) I can understand if people have a place to
ride out in middle nowhere and no people complaining to much
on atv riders and i can understand if they wanna trail ride on dirt roads
and enjoying their selfs. If they follow rules right they will be okay. :)  8)

I think offroad permits will be
good idea to ride on every dirt road in the state
of fla.And if cop see a sticker little tag plate
on your atv then they won't mess
with you.If your 16years old you can
buy permit for  small fee 10$ 20$ or 30$ year
and don't need driver license for it and
all need ssn# or day birth. And alot
$ can go into donates to bulid more atv
and offroad parks all over state florida.
Then alot people can ride easy don't worry
so much about complaining so much.
Well look what state AZ does
they have tag offroad license plates
on their atvs.

Well at least we  need try to get
our word out to other atv riders out there.

But you have to make it happen and make
sure you do it right for the first time.I understand
Chuck roast what he's saying about that.Don't make first mistake
always have better plan to get it right.I don't think
atvs shouldn't be banned and depends how the way you use
them right and follow the rules okay. 8)

I understand people need more offroad riding places
here in Florida. :)

Me personally, I think if a large majority of people come out to show support for this cause, someone will take notice and will want to help, just to be in the political limelight. There's only two ways to do this; either do it and hope for the best, or don't do it and possibly get screwed out of riding area's!!

Before you decide to do this read the thread save your riding area. Let me see if I can do this thing with Mr. Terrell first... we are working on it... If you have any other ideas or can help I can use all the help I can get.. If we get this feed that would be awsome....
