Title: The Hump: this is where it is
Post by: Pastense on January 11, 2006, 06:33:14 PM
Hey folks,

GPS coodinates are    25°26'26.35"N  x  80°28'4.94"W
Download and use Google Earth to see an overhead view.

First of all there are many ways to get there, these are the two most popular.

1.
Take the Florida Turnpike all the way south until it ends.  You will merge onto US1 heading south towards the Keys. Go straight past Palm Avenue and continue on past all of the fast food restaurants and gas stations.  On your right you will see a bait and tackle store named Jacks. As soon as you pass Jacks you will see where US1 and another road called Cardsound split. Take a left onto Cardsound. You literally travel about a half a block and you will see a rock road to your left.  That is the main entrance to the Hump.
Drive down the rock road and find a place to park.  You should see all of the people riding.

2.
This way is okay especially if you have a Ute.  I am going out with a chainsaw to try to clear some of the debris that is blocking people's paths.
Take the turnpike south until it merges onto US1. You be heading south on US1 towards the Keys.  Quickly get over to the left hand lane.  You are going to make a left turn at the first road you come up to which is Palm Avenue.  Once you take a left on Palm continue heading east for about two miles.  You're going to see a rock road to your right. (you should see Homestead Senior High school to your left) Turn right down that rock road.  Go past two dirt roads on your left. At the third rock road stop and look right.  You should see an old abandoned hulk of a vehicle out in a puddle.  Park your vehilce anywhere around where you are (beware that the rock road is used heavily by dump trucks).  In any case get on your quad and go towards that puddle where that hulk of a car is.  It is a little deep but I make it through on a 400ex with an airbox.  Keep going.....on the other side is opposite end of the rock road that I told you how to get to in way number 1. The advantage of this route is that it is a little more secluded.

If your still unsure PM me with your number and I'll call.

If my bike is back together.........I'll be out early.
I really want to chainsaw some downed trees out there.
Ergo, if you see a RED ;D 400ex with a chainsaw attached to a middle aged overwieght guy with a red and black helmet.  That'd be me.
 ;D
