Last night was one of the worst nights that I have had in a while. I had my 2001 Blaster for sale in the classified section of this website. Well anyways I also had it for sale in the Cycle Trader...... so last night this guy called up and said if he could come and see it because he was interested so I gave him my directions to my house and finally he got there at about 6 P.M. so I started showing him the bike and he seemed like a nice guy and then he asked me if I could take it out of the garage and start it up, So I said no problem. After I had started the bike he asked me if it was alright if he drove it and I said sure no problem not thinking anything about it. I said just go down the street and come back. He said O.K. so he started going and then he just took off like there was no tommorow!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ON MY BIKE :'( :'( me and my friend jumped in his car to see where he had gone. Since it is a blaster (2-stroke) I could smell the castor oil. I drove around my neighboorhood one time and I could not smell it or hear anything anymore..... I drove back down my street to see if he came back. and to my surprise he was comming the other way in his van, so I swerved in front of him and he went around me so I took chase and called the cops... The cops responded so SLOWLY!!!!!!!!!!!!! By the time a cop had came we were about 20 minutes away from my house in Miami. They got away from us and the Police did not catch them. They stole my quad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :'( :'( :'( I guess when I went out to look where he had gone he drove back to my house and loaded into his van. But the thing was I wasn't even gone for 5 minutes????? When he came he was alone but when I was trying to chase him there were two guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They set me up those BA*T*RDS and now I dont have my quad anymore. :'( :'( :'( :'( :H :H
I reported it stolen shortly after and I managed to get the tag # from their van, so I gave it to the Police and now I am just praying that something turns up. There is some real scum in this world and I hope justice finds them.

If anyone happens to see or hear anything about it let me know.

It is a Blue 2001 Yamaha Blaster w/no headlight and lots of stickers on it.

that really sucks, atleast u got their tag #, that should help the police some, my teachers quad got stolen, and the only way that he got them to make any progress was to keep talking to them and asking them about their progress on it, hope u get it back and they catch them

You still could have slammed into it and made a nice little mark to make that van easier to ID. Too bad you were in your friends car...Whats his plate number? I am sure alot of members would be looking out for that A hole if they had it.

First off, I'm sorry about the bad luck. I hope you get your quad back, The problem with the tag number is that the van was probably stolen also. Never let anyone ride your quad until they put cahs in hand. Then tell them that if they don't want it after they ride it you will give their money back. That way you know if they really have the money to buy it also. Tell them that you don't want to be rude but a buddy of your had one stolen and although they look like they would not do it, your buddy thought the same thing. Then if they cannot produce cash, keep the keys to yourself. There has also been people that drive up in a stolen vehicle then take off and they have their friend down the street with a truck, they take off leaving the vehicle there and then go put your quad in the othe truck and they are gone. When you call the cops, you find out that the truck they drove up in was stolen.

I hate to be the one to say it but chances are the tag for the van will be stolen or no match....The van was probly stolen too  :-\

That's why you don't lettem ride unless you get ALL of their info. License, If they want to take it for a test ride tell them to put the money in your hand first. Never leave yourself open like that. Sorry about that my man and I hope your bike turns up.

I remember a thread talking about this happening in Orlando a couple months ago. Guess the trend has spread down to Miami. I hope its not a stolen van and that you can get your quad back.

They did run the licescense plate and it was not stolen and belonged to the van. I also gave the cops his cell phone number so hopefully they can track it or something.....

It got been some low life jerk did that.I use live in miami long time up in hollywood.Try the ship ports areas where they shipped cargo.
Or check all pawn shops in miami area.And  or go to news media on wfor

Well i'm sorry you lost your quad bike and i hope you get it back.
I aways say god paids them back in long run what comes around what goes around and it will bite him in the butt  :M

If i was going buy a atv from somebody i will never steal
from that  person.It aint worth your time to go jailhouse for life.

that Blows!!! i live here in cooper city and was it like a kid or a younger guy? because i know lots of kids that steal atvs and dirt bikes and stuff.

not to make this situation worse or anything but my borthers 250ex got stolen almost 4 years ago and we told our local pd and we knew the kids who stole it but you dont obviosly and all our pd was go to their home and ask if they had the bike and the kids told them no and our pd practically dropped it but then just last year (2 years after it was gone) plant city pd called and they recovered our fourwheeler and a stolen dirtbike locked in a stolen trailer in the woods. so make sur that your local pd is keeping up with it.

I'm sorry to heat about your quad.  There are web sites where you can pay for info.  Such as getting a name & addy with that phone # & plate #.   That is where I would start.  They may have sold them all ready but at least you will know where they live.

So many time I have herd this story....1st thing is never bring any one to your place, 2ed always ask for D/L and look over the car they came in.
the last ime I herd this it was on BansheeHQ and they had drove a stolen car to the house and told the guy he was going to ride the quad the guy was like uMmm I dont know the guy was like my car is here so I have to come back for it...the guy took off never came back and the car was not his...end of story....its that easy....2ed time some one seen us cleaning the banshee's we had..mine went back to my house his stayed @ his....some one cut a hole in the Garage door...tried to open it...then cut a 2ed hole to look and see what was keeping the door closed...ended up seeing the 2 pad locked on the tracks...then cut 2 more holes and then cut the locks...end of story they took the quad, gas cans, Parts, Gear, Oils...even took the new seats to his MiNi truck....Sorry to hear about your quad Hope every thing works out and you get your stuff back...we had 2 dirt bikes taken from my sisters a long time ago and got them both back...so dont lose hope!

Yeah that is just crappy.....I was out having a drink in PSL last night and a guy had a brand new King Quad in the back of his truck....1 tie down strap..and the keys were in it!!!!....he was drinking in the bar I guess...brand new Quad.....people make it easy to steal... BUT In your case....that is pretty rotten...

if you find any info out send me a pm and i will be more than glad to go with you to this guys house and beat the living %$#@ out of him and get your bike back.

Do you have a pic of it to post on here. Maybe a vin. number. People need to know what to look for.

It is a rule of thumb that when I sell something if they want to ride it they have to give me what I'm asking for before they ride.  After they come back is when negotiating starts.

Looks like it's going to come down to taking pics of ppl, vehicles, plate numbers, and finger printing them just in case.

I hope you get it back and they pay dearly for their actions.  I keep reading this post hoping to hear a good out come.  It's a hard lesson to learn but thanks for posting it so maybe others will learn from it.

If the police are no help try doing a search on dogpile or just google the info you have.  I was involved in an accident with my truck I had a bit more info than you did but when I searched what I had online you wouldn't belive how quick we found my guy.  If it's no help the police should have public records might be able to find something in there.  Did the guy give you his name or anything?

I can only hope that the lack of posting here means you are in process of getting your quad back.

On a more serious note, no one wants to be reminded of how myopic in vision they were to not see this scam coming.  So try not to remind the poor guy about the fact that he got taken.  Instead we should all try to empathize with him.  Believe me I do empathize with you. 
Make no mistake, unless you were aware of this scam before hand, this could have easily happened to anyone on this board.  What I would like to say is thank you.  Thank you for informing me of something to be leary of, when it comes time to sell my own bike.   I do hope sincerely, that you do retrieve your property.
I ride often in Homestead so I will keep my eye out.  If you would like to PM me the information on your bike so that I can determine if its down this way please feel free.

Also as an aside, Dr Bones maybe a small post about the different scams that thieves and matchstick men use to steal quads would be appropriate in the for sale forum would be aprapos.

Thats BS, People does not always know that it is stolen. I bought a 1994 Blaster that was stolen. After I got it home I ran the vin at the police station and it was not stolen. A week later the lady reported it stolen and I lost the quad and the money I paid for it. The Lady did not even give me any reward or offer me part of my money back. Seems the owner had it stored at her relatives house along with two other motorcycles and the thief took all of them. The guy called me later and offered to sell me one of the motorcycles and I let the cops know and helped them with a sting on the guy and he got arrested and she got all her stuff back.

Read the first post he made! He basicly said that a guy came to his house and was interested in buying it and asked for a test ride and got one. Well he took off with the Blaster and didn't come back.

I told my dad it was nigear scam and I told
him why and I told him about answer machine
and the guy don't even sound like french candian
sound and it sound like black guy on answer.
I told my dad i saw ep of nigear scam on tv one
day and i told what they do and they try buy all
these items from usa and screw around with people
with a fake  bank account and fake money order
and when they have you bank account number
where you wire it and then they will start taking
all money out each month.

I won't apologize for my comments about buying stolen ATVs, unless you can explain to me why you wouldn't verify the ID of the seller and ensure that it matches the name on the title? Those of you out there who haven't bothered to comply with that law requiring you to title your ATV, aren't helping reduce the market for stolen ATVs, either. And, where does the money come from to keep that database of VIN #s, etc. so that your stolen ATV can be tracked, possibly recovered and returned to the rightful owner? Does it come from those who won't title their ATVs? You wanna play, you gotta pay!

Look what the majority race is in prison/jail .. the funny thing is, they are the "minority" race..   its not being racist or stereotypeing  its probability.. enough said..do the math... when 70% of the 30% (black population) have been in jail or a record... well, figure it out..

Not all quads have titles. You just had to start titleing them a few years back. My brother has a 1996 that he purchased new and the dealership never applied for a title and he said he never got one for it. All he has is the paperwork where he purchased it. I purchased a used 2000 model and it even had a lien on it at the credit union and there was never a title from Tallahassee. I have the original MSO from the factory on that one. So depending on the age of them may depend on if it even has a title or not.

Saturday: I got my Blaster back in the same condition they stole it as (perfect) they didn't even take the stickers off or anything. (dumbasses!!!!!!!!)

Oh yea the guy that stole it is in jail for: Grand Theft & Possesion of a STOLEN vehicle

glad you found ur quad  most people dont  i caught a guy stealing one of our bikes redhanded out of our garage  i chased him down and pistolwhipped him  the cops showed up three hours later  i also have an untitled 4 wheeler  i ran the vin  its not stolen  i cant get a title but i listed it on my homeowners insuranse just in case

I agree that most people will not verify the ID of a potential buyer before letting them test ride. Perhaps they should print this story and keep it to remind them.

Someone caught with stolen property is guilty only of possession of stolen property. This POS has yet to be convicted of possession and yet to be convicted of grand theft, hence the term alleged thief.

The law says, "all off-highway vehicles purchased after the effective date of the "Florida Off-Highway Vehicle Titling Act" (July 1, 2002) and all off-highway vehicles operated on public lands be titled to allow for easy determination of ownership". You can help by titling yours or you can just to continue whine about thieves!

That would be correct but any OHV purchased before July 01, 2002 was not registered unless the owners rode at a place like croom so there are many quads out there without titles.

A man trying to steal my quad would have to be an A-AA rider to get away from me.

listen i past up a couple nice z400's when i was lookin for one for jesse. you dont know how many sellers told me "ohv and dirt bikes dont have titles-a bill of sale will suffice(said arrogantly). i tried to explain the 2002 law and since z400s started in 2003 they had to be titled, they respondd as if i were crazy.
well i almost bought one with a bill of sale only. i asked the guy for the vin number and when i ran it through the link on the for sale section it had a lien with a bank. well i told the seller and hes like "oh yeah i still owe 2,200.00 on it. so i told him no thanks. in his defense he says he went to pay it off and was waiting foe the title. i would have bought it but found one local.

ps. thanks mr bones for the link to the title search. i would have bought a bike that would have belonged to the bank and not me.

What if that person who got ,"caught" bought it from someone and he has a bill-of-sale? Is he still the thief were all asking for? So, what happens if you buy one of those bikes without a title? How can you positively ID the seller as the free and clear owner? Then, what happens if the seller reports it stolen?
