Yeah, I agree with some of the video games being inappropriate, especially for the younger kids, but they dont make people hurt people. A child/person should be able to diferentiate between fantasy and reality. I taught preschool for 3 years and kids tend to be able to grasp that concept around 5-6 (of course with the help and guidence of thier parents). So as far as I'm concerned, it all leads back to BAD PARENTING and LACK OF MORALITY/COMMON SENSE/COMPASSION.

I agree with skyhigh. Those games are based on the invironement, (GTA San Andreas is based off of how it is in San Andrea) (GTA Miami is based from Miami) This is supposed to be the life there and in that area. The people are the ones its based off of and the people were doing these things before the games ever came out. I am 40 years old and I play these games sometimes and have played games most all my life and I would never think of harming someone in this manner. I also think its funny when I play these games and be the person but it would never cross my mind in doing it in real life. Its called entertainment. It all goes back to PARENTING, and with the laws today some people are afraid to discipline their children.

This is kind of off the topic, but can you bring a gun into the forest (outside of hunting season) if you have a concealed weapons permit?

No State forest, parks, buildings, etc.  [smiley=Disapprove.gif] It's a shame, that's why i don't ride ONF to much.

Hey Kawgirl:

Wow!! What a story to read. I'm shocked and scared at the same time..

Guess this is not a place to just go riding with MX Mike. What happened to patrols out there??

Sounds like the streets of NY...

lol.. its not quite that bad! But that is still a scary situation nonetheless. I havent personally ran into much trouble out there.. just the usual hunting season mishaps. You know the kind I am talking about... roofing nails in the trails and parking areas, wire across the trails, etc... It kind of makes it like an obstical course Wink There are patrols out there, but ONF is a BIG area. There is no way they could hire enough to patrol everywhere... people just need to grow up and be mature enough to handle thier anger/frustration properly.. I know... thats a lot to ask, I'm sorry  Roll Eyes.

This is dispicable. These guys should be hunted down and beat to sh*t. ALL OF THEM! Guns may not be legal in ONF but after hearing this, I just may have to bring mine in incognito. Ridiculous. Hope your family recorvers well man.

Well, I don't like to hear that story either.  My hubby is a cop and he always brings a gun when we ride.  It makes me nervous....I don't like guns.  But, I guess if were got into that kinda situation it would come in handy....or cause a gunfight, either one!

I am from Maine and we take care of our places to ride, and each other.

I, obviously, am from Maine too! I am involved with an ATV club there. You are correct when you say that the trails are better taken care of. Two of the biggest differences between FL and ME when it comes to off-road is the willingness of people to put forth TIME to maintain, secure, and protect trails. The second major difference is MONEY. People in ME are willing to put their MONEY where their MOUTH is. It takes lots of money to maintain trails (drags, bridges, dinners for private landowners to help show appreciation). They raise money through corporate sponsors, raffles, flea markets, etc.

In general people here want free places to ride. Want to put no effort to keep these areas open and in general act like idiots when given a place to ride. I have said it before. We are our own worst enemies.

Want more places to ride in FL? Start a club... have the club become part of Florida Trail Riders. FTR is very vocal for 2 wheeled and 4-wheeled RACING issues but haven't done anything for the trail riding public. A local club aligned with FTR could push FTR to help with what we want. The more local clubs the more FTR could be pushed. FTR already has people in Tallahassee. They, Tallahassee, are the ones that open new riding areas for people like us. Getting on here and complaining does nothing.

The last time I looked there was over 15 million dollars in the capitol to open new riding areas. What has been done with this money? If you have bought a new machine or "done the right thing" and gotten a title for your machine.... you paid towards this.

Until people band together on a local level so that a push can be made on a state level this is what you will get.... nothing. Or even less than nothing...

Look at the facts; Just last year Maine opened 800 + miles of OHV trails. ATV (which in ME means anything with tires) trails... snowmobile trails and combnation trails (ATV and snowmobile). These trails are 90% on PRIVATE LANDS! The 10% of state lands opened have been EASY compared to private land openings. They still do it. My club in ME is opening a new 20 mile trail this year that connects our trails with our neighboring clubs trails. We will have 150 miles of trails between the two clubs. Now I should mention the Interconnected Trail System (ITS). This is a seperate trail system for snowmobiles only. It covers the whole state. You could get on a trail in southwest Maine and go to Canada.

Now lets look at Florida: Scotsmore... restricted and closing, Northport.... closed. Prarie... closed. and the list goes on.

What will happen? I predict that we will be left with a couple of areas to ride over the next 5 years. They will be privately owned areas where "like-minded" people own land and allow each other to ride on that land. These areas will become so congested with people that the inevitable accidents and deaths will happen. Some (many?) people will give up riding. Then eventually the state will take over these large areas of open land to "let them be natural". They won't pay you for your land. They will just come in and tell you... we are in control of this area now. You will still be allowed to go to your land, you can walk there and camp in a tent. Don't leave any turd or trash behind. Watch the birds all you want. DO NOT hunt. Animals get hurt when you hunt. Like the trees? Hug them all you want... but be careful of the sensitive bark.

Think that is all crap? Have you ever heard of "less than fee" land purchases? The state gives it this name when they take control of your land and don't pay you for it. Ever heard of Florida Forever? You better read up about land acquisitions by FF. http://www.dep.state.fl.us/lands/acquisition/FloridaForever/default.htm

As I have said before we need local clubs to work together at a state level. We need less talk and more work. Start a club in your area. If you need help I have some very good resources for reference for items like club setup, by-laws, membership, boards, etc. All you have to do is ask.

I wouldn't ride anywhere un-armed by the sounds of this topic. If you don't show it who will know? If I were jumped like this and felt in fear of my life and couldn't get away... BANG BANG. Go ahead and charge me with a misdemeanor weapons charge. I'll be alive to pay the fine!

No but there are ways around it legally. As long as it is some kind of Gun season, which is 75% of the year be it small game, general gun etc. as long as you have a WMA permit you can legally carry a gun with you in the forrest. Although most of the wardens will not hassle you anytime for being armed in the forrest as long as your not doing something stupid. They could if you pissed them off though.  Grin

I believe only Law enforcement can carry conceled in these places. Im in law enforcement in Miami-dade and even we have a saying i heard earlier. I'd rather be jundged by 12 than carried by 6. I really dont give a F#ck who is reading this This kind of stuff shouldnt be happening. You dont go into the forest to ride your bike and have a nice day to get the dog sh&t beat out of you. I really hope that these morons either get busted or one day run into someone out there that brings a gun to a bottle fight ! That is so cowardous it rediculous. 3 on 1 it really bullsh*t. I would bet that if it was 1 on 1 the story would have been different. I hope your brother is better for the next group ride maybe we could do some riding.

Agreed. Maybe some of the people that did do this cowardly act are reading and should know we will be armed from now on. Like the man said. I would much rather be judged by 12 when defending me and my families life than carried by 6 and dug away forever never to help my family again. PHUCK THAT! I will not go down fighting against 3 or 4. I know I can take 2 but 3 or 4??? Been there, done that. I aint as fast as I used to be. Fast enough to draw the iron though. I am a family man and hope to one day see the day where we dont need or want guns for protection. But in this day and age, you almost have to be ready for anything.
