Went riding just north of Salt Springs on St. Rd. 19 yesterday. I parked my truck on the side of the road like I thought everyone else did. I'm aware of the fact you are not to ride on numbered roads. However, when we returned to my truck, there was a notice (flyer with maps etc) that said in handwritten ink at the bottom, "You have no legal access to the trails for unlicensed vehicles from this point". Now I was parked near a numbered road but entered the trail system further down. As far as I know, I was riding in an un-restricted area. Any info on this area? Just to give a better location...about a mile north of the Salt Springs Visitor Center. Just over the hill.
Thanks,
Pat

I'd say its the start of the new regulations. Sometime after the first of the year there is supposed to be I believe 5 new trailheads and the new trail system Sad You will only be able to unload and ride into the forest from these trailheads. No more side of the road parking.

my guess from your description is that you parked far away from an actual trailhead?

if so, then they were correct in telling you that there was no legal access and that rule has been in place forever as far as I know,,,,because.....if there was no trailhead right there at the end of your trailer/truck, then you would have had to ride down the side of the road in between tree-lines which is illegal there.

However, they have also closed off parking/access to the forest going South on FR88 from the intersection of Hwy314 for about a mile.  Their signs only go so far though,,,,who knows, they may have just run out of signs and intend on posting the rest of the road.

I for one would like them to tell us,,,,WHY?

I expect no answer however,,,at least any answer with some intelligent thought put in to it.

gee, can you tell my thoughts on this and rangers in general?  (not you Marla if your'e reading)

If you parked on the side of 19 that's why they hassled you. Go east of 19 on F.R. 43 there are several places to park and they won't bother you. As Ida said if you park on the side of a hard road you need to be at a trail and I would think you need to be into the tree line not on the sholder.

Last Saturday, a Big Scrub area ranger told me that it's illegal to ride within 25 feet of any road, except for the purpose of crossing it. He did not say anything about a tree line. So, judging by his comment, if you parked within 25 feet of the road, you violated the rule when you unloaded your ATV. On the bright side, that note was an education and NOT a punitive measure(a fine). He also said it's illegal to ride through mud, if you can "reasonably" go around it. They don't want us digging mud pits with our ATVs. And, he said that they've only begun marking a few trails in the Delancey area, so he expects it will taek the FS several months or more to complete the marking process. Now, who knows if that means we have several more months to ride anywhere we want or if they'll soon restrict us to those Delancey trails and add more in time. My guess, and only a guess, is we have several more months.
