overheating??

I was wondering if anyone knows how long I can run an air cooled raptor 350 without it overheating and causing damage to the engine. Are there any signs I should look or listen for when riding that may indicate any problems? I like to ride the machine very hard and I can ride for hours at a time. Please let me know if I am screwing the four wheeler up, its not mine but I may be buying very soon because I can not get financed on a new quad. Thanks.

My 14 y.o. has had the 2005 Raptor 350 since last Xmas. He rides with me all day long(except in mud). He's also ridden it hard for hours on DP's MX tracks and has had zero overheating or any other problems. He runs out of gas before I do on my 03 Outy. And, I recently overtightened the oil drain plug, stripped the exterior part of the plug and had to take a cold chisel to tap it off 1/8 turn at a time. Yamaha has retooled and replaced the oil drain plugs to include wings to help remove an overtightened plug. Get the updated oil drain plug from a Yamahad dealer. I'd recommend that if you're over 6ft tall or over 200lbs, you'll need something bigger, though, like the 06 Wolverine.

I dont think so. All it has is a reverse and neutral light. Can I get one installed so that I will know when I have been running it to hard?

You'll know when its overheating. the quad wont respond to throttle as fast and may ride slugish.

You cant overheat it, if it has oil in it and the cooling fins aren't full of mud then ride it till its empty, refill and repeat. I wouldn't ride it wide open in top gear for too long, but other than that, ride the crap out of it and keep up the maintenance. This is assuming its a stock bike.
