Does any of the Naples locals or Sportsmen groups know whats going on with the proposed ATV area for Bad Luck Prairie?  Has anyone talked or asked the local DOF or FWC about it?  The website Save Bad Luck has not been updated for a couple months now.  Its not a good sign when nobody talks about it anymore.  I wish the Off-Highway Advisory Committee was easier to get in touch with.  We need them to push for this to happen.

Nothing happening right now from what I hear.  I bet they are going to develop that whole area in 10-15 years.  But you know the gov. always does what they want.

Someone needs to find out what the heck is going on.  That was the best place to ride.

i wouldn't hold my breath waiting on any land from any form of government. its sad to say it butt its true, they don't care about ppl that ride ohv's. it's been almost a year since they shut down bad luck and here we are with less and less land to ride. the only legal land that any of us are going to have is if we buy our own land where there are no neighbors for miles or if we buy property in river ranch.  it sucks to live in florida if you love this sport.

The only thing that is in our favor is the T. Mark Schmidt OHV Safety and Recreation Act which requires the government to find and maintain areas for us to ride.  Part of the act required DOF to come up with 5 new places for OHV use and Picayune was one of the suggested places.  Tate's Hell was another suggested place and that's why we have it.  If government does not follow the new law then maybe a lawsuit from one of the sportsmen groups will be needed to get them back on track.

I sent an email to Mike Long today who is the director of the Division of Forestry.  I asked him how the proposed OHV plan in Picayune was going and a time table for this to possibly happen.  Here is the reply he sent me back only a couple hours later.

We have a meeting next week to look at the location selected by the working group along with the layout of trails.  It has been build into management plan which will be submitted for review.  I will know more after the meeting on the 27th.  There are many still opposed to OHV’s in Picayune Strand State Forest and we have a long uphill battle to open an area.

I drove out there (just go my permit, need to start practicing) and tram road (the dirt road to badluck) is blocked of by a gate, and all the other ways to get in are blocked off by big boulders. The squares are completely overgrown, I meen you can't even tell people used to ride there in the past. Shocked

We are still holding our breath till Oct. 30th. Really dont expect much, I took my boy out fishing last weekend fishing is still good.Camping is open along the big tee for $5, it is very quiet out there these days.
This week's article in Naples paper about the land swap to build homes. This seems unbelievable that one of the first steps in this project is to trade land that could have been used to fulfill a promise for an ATV riding area, Instead wetlands are given to septic tank leaking urban sprawl to provide money for "tree removal"...money must be tight.
I cant imagine ORV riding being more detramental than pesicides and fertilizer being sprayed all over this land !!

This other article is one of several depict scientists  stating over and over that water storage projects wont work because of algae blooms in storage areas ,also  in gulf when released (caused by their run-off). Of course the state researched this very well before making citizens sell their land and taking public property???

As allways hindsight is 20/20 ----who is going to take on the Gov. ??

Today's Naples Daily --Apparently they knew about high arsenic levels on Aug. 3rd according to this ...

http://www.naplesnews.com/npdn/news/article/0,2071,NPDN_14940_4133120,00.html

Someone needs to set up wetlands (for ORV's) to trade for some brush clearing in the south blocks...we would be elated     Kiss

"Arsenic occurs naturally in the environment, but breathing in arsenic at high enough levels can irritate lungs, decrease production of red and white blood cells and cause abnormal heart rhythm and even cancer, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Skin contact can cause redness and swelling."

"The county and the district are talking about a two-year extension of the October deadline, Mudd said last week. "

Enough said

I agree, trust em all as far as you can throw them. In May, they closed Holeyland to save the wildlife from flooding. With it still flooded as high as it gets, they reopened it just in time for this week's muzzleloading gun season to blow that wildlife into smithereens. LOL
