One thing you have to keep an eye on is water getting in the rear and frontend. I have seen a few that have got water in them and the gears don't last long after. I check mine if I drive through deep water. I've been lucky so far considering I had the bike in pretty deep water.

Well, what I did on my friends bike was I jacked it up, took out the drain plugs on the bottom. (Note: the rear-end also has an inspection bolt on the bottom side. You want to remove the bolt on the bottom under the rear-end guard). I drained the fluid, put in some diesel fuel, spinning the wheels by hand, putting my finger over the drain plug and then letting it drain. Did this a couple of times and then let drain completely. Put new oil in, ran bike for a short time while still jacked up and then drained the oil and refilled again. I prefer to use regular oil for the draining process to save money, 8oz bottle of Honda Hypoid oil is about $10. The front-end takes 8.2 Ounces and the rear 2.9 Ounces. The oil Honda recommends is Hypoid gear oil SAE 80.
