I am not a political historian by any means. But we as a nation have gone to great extents to mend relations with everyone on earth but a few including Cuba. As of the other day Fidell offered a bunch of support for the victims of Katrina. To me he is extending the olive branch and seeing that he isn't going to live that much longer why not start on the road to better relations with our next to nearest neighboring nation? Less then 100 miles off our coast. Do you think we should accept his offer or turn our backs and continue holding a grudge?? I think the time has come to heal.

Wonder how he's going to help us ? He's having a hard time providing for his own. As for grudges no sense in that , just keep in mind who we're dealing with cause he cant be trusted.

He needs to take care of his own country. Like we should, if we didn't give to every country we would have enough to take care of our selfs. Most those's country's would never give us a penny anyway.

It would be interesting to see how his brother would govern once Fidel passes.

Since Castro took over in 1959 (if memory serves me correctly), he has been unwilling to cooperate with the United States. This example of his wanting to provide assistance with the hurricane disaster is simply another example of how he "picks and chooses" when he wants to cooperate. The United States is a very proud Country and doesn't usually accept assistance from another country anyway. Especially if its within our own national borders. Pat

We are the country that welcomes everyone and is the "LAND OF OPPURTUNITY". Remember when Castro took advantage of that weakness and sent over all of the bad element from his prisons? He would sink a makeshift raft full of women and children to keep them from coming over but he had no problem sending over all the dirtbags from prison. HE CAN'T BE TRUSTED!!!!!! What better victory than to screw us one last time before he finally kicks the bucket.

Castro came to the US for help overturning Batista. The US refused to help Castro because powerful/wealthy people in the US had investments with Batista and took his side. Rapidly Castro was becoming a threat and gaining support from the Cuban people by promises of food and such. Batista and other wealthy people of Cuba fled to the US after the revolution and convinced our government to eliminate Castro. In defense Castro turned to the only people that would help, the USSR. You know the rest.
Castro has been revered from a tyrant to a savoir. Don't know, never met him, so I don't have an opinion. I think we should take the doctor's he's offering. It may be a political ploy, but the disaster victims need help. If our government wasn't so slow to respond, many other countries waiting to help us could have much sooner. I hope a lesson has been learned here.

While i understand what youare saying trx. i do not agree. what he needs to do is feed the people in his country.i have family in cuba and they have to deal in the black market to get chicken or beef or pork. he rations out watered down milk, and thats only to parents with newborn babies. after a certain amount of time the child needs to come off the milk cause there isn't enough. he took a proud country and hard working country, and turned it into a bunch of lazy ppl that don't want to work.
so i say he lies in the bed he made.

About his brother being in power I highly doubt that. If you would ever see castro you would see him with 4 young about 30-39 ex milatary that usually runs his stuff. Ever saw alexander, the scene when he dies know one knows what to do and kaos came. Well that is going to happen, and his little pansy brother will be on a boat with a young guy doing what he does best or executed.

what he needs to do is feed the people in his country. I agree. Purelogic had distant relatives that came from Cuba last year (on a Visa). They moved in with family in Miami, but we had them over for dinner one night (and gave them $$, some home furnishings, etc). I'm an American raised city girl....what did I make for dinner? Hamburgers, hotdogs and macaroni & cheese! (I know this sounds funny, but keep reading it's really sad!) When Purelogic went outside to cook....they asked him what that was he was using....they'd never seen a grill before! (I was amazed). Then we sat down to eat....they looked frightened....they weren't used to eating meat.....they were "allowed" 1 pound of meat per month in Cuba, so they learned to live without! I was mortified for not knowing better. They were so polite but ended up eating the rolls I bought to go with the hamburgers and hotdogs. So sad.
