Ripped off is a term that I don't think I'd use.  Are we paying more than WE think is fair - yes!  Are we paying more for existing gasoline based on a news report or  a ship leaking- yes!  Will the cost of a gallon of gas ever go down - NO!
A lot of the world has been paying considerably more per gallon than we ever have.  Case in point - right now it is $1.50 per liter in Germany.  That is $6.00 per gallon US.  Granted this isn't Germany - but we are not entitled to cheap gasoline just because we are born in the US.  It is long past time for us to move towards other reliable means of fueling our needs and toys!
Just my two cents worth...

Yes we do pay to much for gas. I do not mind that the oil companys make money but I saw on TV news the other night that they made between 17% and 32% profit last year and that they expect to see that double this year. When we are paying as much for gas as we are and they are makeing that much money then we are being RIPPED OFF. Most small businneses would be happy to make the profit that they do every year.

Just my 2 cents.

If you are willing to pay $6.00 a gallon if your medical is free you must have some serious health issues. When I go to the doctor I pay cash, and it's usually once a year. I fill my tank a couple times a week. Screw free medical care.

It's only going to get worse now due to Katrina. We have so many off-shore oil rigs in the gulf that had to be abandoned because of the storm (no telling for how long). They are saying now that gas could go up another .30 because of it.... I spent $70 in gas from Friday night to Monday morning, just this past weekend, I cant imagine much more, lol. At $9 an hour... $70 is over 8 hours of my time at work... OUCH!!!

Can we tap into the reserves now?? lol. This is just another reason why we need to continue investing in off-shore drilling. If more areas would allow it, then an event like this wouldnt be so catastrofic to oil production.

Just another reason to tell enviormentalists to shove it! HAHA.

We need to boycott gas for a couple of months so they drop the D*** prices.

You will still have to buy gas at the end of those couple months and while they arent making any money during that time, they will have to raise their prices and you will end up paying for it one way or another.

Most of the extra cost across seas is taxes.  So that is like a apple and orages thing.  America does not really pay that much less then the rest of the work for their oil.  It's the taxes that jack it up so high.  Not that Germany as a country pays  more for their crude thank us.

I do think that it is a good idea to look to get off foregin oil though.  Not a good to depend on people who don't like you.  Bio diesel is easy to make.  As soon as we buy a house I'm going to buy diesel car & work tuck & make my own fuel.
