I'll upgrading the message board next Tuesday so there will be times when the board is down during this process. It's not just an upgrade, but a conversion to a new board system. The new board will be much faster and will have more features to offer in the future. Plus it won't delete messages without warning!

But, since this is a conversion, I'm not sure what exactly is going to happen. The current board has a lot of hacked in upgraded features that can cause problems. At a bare minimum, I want all logins, messages and attachments working. I don't know what will happen with the instant messages either. Hopefully this won't happen, but don't be surprised if they are wiped clean. We'll have to see what happens.

Thanks for your support!

Mr. Bones, Question: how does this site pay for itself? or does it. I always wondered because I know this thing does not operate for free. Whats up?  Thanks in advance Huh

In an attempt to ease any anxiety about the conversion I thought I might wax philosophical for a moment: Grin

Socrates was the original rebel. He was persucuted and killed for teaching others to question authority.

About to be put to death for his beliefs and teachings, Socrates was told he would be spared being put to death if he were willing to recant all that he was known for teaching.
Being a man of conviction and integrity he refused even though he knew his death was imminent. When asked if he were scared about his upcoming death, his reply was to (holding true to his teachings) to ask why should I be scared? None of can say for sure what it will be like, so why be afraid? It is foolish to be afraid of the unknown. He said that he saw it as an adventure.

Put shortly:

The only constant is change. We shouldn't worry about new things since we don't exactly know what will happen.

I'm just glad I finally got a chance to use some of the useless information I was forced to pay for in college  Grin

Shocked I hope this don't effect my new postings on forums on here.

I think  you should backup your web site in case something goes wrong.

Thanks for all the encoraging words and offers of help. I've got the new board setup and ready to go. Just have to put both in maintenance mode and start the conversion. I'll do that tomorrow and we'll see what happens. The old board is supposed to be unaffected so if all else fails, I can go back to it.

Well, it was a complete disaster. After 8 hours, I've scrapped everything and went back to the old board. The new one is completely corrupted and has to be redone. The conversion process managed to destroy all the attachments and tried to encrypt them. It created a 17gb directory that had to be deleted. So, I think they are all gone. Sorry. I'll try again later this week.

Thanks for the post gery.

I tried it again and got the same result. My guess is the converter is bunk. I'll enquire about it with the creator, but after today, I won't want to mess with this again at least for another week or more.

I fixed the stars issue. I want to come up with something different for CMs. I'll have to do that later.

It looks like the location field got garbled during the conversion. You have to edit in your profile. I haven't figured out how to make it display next to people names'. But, I'll get it sorted out.

Some posts have duplicate attachments. Don't know why. No biggie.

The calendar has been reset. People will have to add new events again. It now shows birthdays and holidays.

The chat room is gone. I have to find another one to install.

The member map is history. I really liked that feature of the old board. I'll see if I can find another one for this board.

I also need to install more smilies. I liked the ones on the old board.

Mr. Bones great work.  I've spent time working w/ computer glitches and know how frustrating it can be.  The site has some great features.  Only one I'm missing is chat.  No biggie, thanks for all you've done.

I got a question...

How come some members are green? I know the bold/dark blue are mods.
