I believe that the United States is the land of opportunity.
But when will enough be enough? People, traffic ,lack of land ect. Florida is over crowded. Time to make it alot harder to get into this country. This may not be a popular opinion , but its mine.
What does this have to do with Atving? Nothing! Angry

Hey, I'm all in favor of making it harder to get into this country. Now they want to give drivers licences to illegals?
Next they will get to vote! Time for them to stay in their own country and improve it, not come here and protest.

This is the only nation that allows so many in with so little scrutiny. I know it was called the "melting pot" but we need to stop melding now. Not only are we letting in any and everybody we cater to them once they get here. I say we need to close the borders unless someone has something to better our country. Stop handing out welfare to those coming in and start helping ours instead of everybody else's. And if you don't want to be "American" and instead want to tell eveyone how great your country is --- GO BACK !  If you want to put Mexican, African, Irish, Italian, what ever flag on your car instead of the flag of this country.... Leave! I don't care where you came from, if you don't take this as your country and love and help her as we do then leave. Don't want to pledge allegiance to America.... Leave!
America.... love it or leave it baby !
Want to end racism and discrimination ? I have the solution. Stop using it as an excuse every time things don't go your way. No more Irish-American, Italian-Americans, African-American, etc, etc, etc. If you're not American then go to where ever you want to claim before you say American. If we only let Americans (natural born or by pledge of allegiance and oath) remain here, then we have nothing to fight about. If we can all unite on that one fundamental criterea of identity, then it's us against the rest of the world instead of us against us. And we can see how that goes  Wink. The French may say they hate us, but who do they call when they get in trouble (just like the rest of the world).

04250- The dfference between our perogatives is that yours appears to focus on a particular origin of people and single them out as bad. I on the other hand say if you want to live and work here you shoul donly do it if America is your one and only country. That doesn't mean that you should give up your heritage. I am proud to be Irish, but I am not, nor will I accept being called Irish-American. I am American. I appreciate my lineage, but claim one nation and give her my loyalty. If you are one of those that put another country before America, thenI would ask why you are still here. Pride in your family history is one thing and acknowledging that you are American is another. I am glad to have you and your Italian originated family here just like I am glad my ancestors came here from Ireland, but if this is your country you should say you are American not Italian-American. If you or anyone else wants to make that seperation then youshould examine your patriotism and determine where you should live. I don't know about you , but most people that claim to be whatever-American have never even been to that other country.

Back to the original post - there are plenty of people here and for this and for security reasons we need to close our borders. we have plenty of people and plenty of diversity. now shut the entry doors and let us be Americans. Keep America safe and keep it ours. In the begining of our country we invited everyone to come to up the census. We no longer need that.

I have the most logical and most likely answer to the original question... why so many people?
That's easy beaches, theme parks, good weather, and a great welfare system the rewards people for not working and for having kids they have no means of supporting.

True story - I knew a guy anmed Earnest E. that was 23 (this was 12 years ago) he had 4 kids and 1 on the way with 3 different women. Earnest lived in the projects in Pasco County. Upon hearing aboutthe 5th kid on the way I asked him what he was thinking. I told him if he ever wanted out of the projects and off welfare that he needed to stop making babies. His response blew me away... he said what are you talking about? With each kid the check gets bigger.

Hmmmm. I was wondering when our paths would cross again.
I am not xenophobic. I simply believe that people that come here should respect our rights and customs as citizens and not expect us to conform to their ideals. Tourism is great. come , spend you money, and go home again. If you want to live here you should be willing to pledge allegiance to America and fully without reservation or hesitation accept her as your country. When this country began it was sparsely populated and we encourged everyone to move right in. We no longer need people to come to fill a gap in census. this county can't even take care of all of the people that are born here that love America and do claim it as their country. How can we continue to allow everyone in and give them handout, all the while respecting their claims of allegiance to other countries while they sport their foreign flags and attempt to make us learn foreign languages to function in our own land, all the while honoring them for their heritage, views, and practices under the guise of freedom ? (Now that was a heck of a run on sentence !) I challenge anyone here to illegally enter another country, take up residency, have kids, continually talk trash about that country, brandish the American flag at every opportunity, live off their welfare, and insist that the citizens of that land honor and respect all of the American practices and traditions that you hold on to. In addition, make them learn English while you refuse to learn their language. It would never happen. We should have similar rules. Want to come here? do it legally, conform to our traditions and practices without attempting to impose yours on us, pledge allegience to America over all others (including their home land) at all times including war, learn our language, and overall assimilate into our society without disrupting it. In those cases I say come on in.
I must admit I was kind of waiting for a contradictory post from someone with a holier than thou perogative, but I am surprised to see it from Anoriginal. Was it the topic that drew you in or was it my participation?  I am impressed with your remote psychological analysis based upon a few words. To be able to diagnose a phobia in such a manner is quite remarkable.  Can you smell that ? Yep it's sarcasm.

Hey guys, My wife is an immigrant from Brazil and let me tell you that for us (going the legal way) it is very difficult, time consuming and exspensive to get everything done that needs to be done.  My wife is one of the hardest working and patriotic people that you will ever meet.  She wants to be an American, the thing that makes me sick is when immigrants come here and dont want to be American.  There are too many that come here and dont want anything to do with our culture and language, that is what we need to fear - not legal immigrants that want to be here and be Americans.
Have fun, Jim...

jandccnfl - I understand that it is a difficult process, but a necessary one. Your wife made it through and is an example for those that with to join our nation. Like you said, it is the illegal immigrants that want to leach off of our economy and trash the U.S. I have a prob with. The ones like your wife I applaud for their perseverence and dedication, and welcome them with open arms.

The one thing i did not hear from anyone who posted on this is how many of you actually put on a uniform for this country I HAVE!!  How many know what it is like to get a phone call that 7 of your people are not coming home I HAVE!! How many have been gassed on and shot at training for the defense of this country? I HAVE!! How many of you are actually from NYC and had there own brother run like the dickens and see first hand what happened that dredfull day? I HAVE !!   NOBODY here probably knows how good you all have it in this country compared to other places. I agree that this country has a population problem with illegals I agree with that. I agree that there are things in Washington that need to be fixed. But take a look at your self in mirror and tell that right now your life is perfect and there is nothing to be fixed iin your own life then you can complain about everything else. At least you all know what its like to sleep in your own bed with a roof over your head and food in your stomach. If I pissed anybody off oh well but for the ones that have been there and know what I am talking about will agree.
So when somebody cuts you off or the person in front of you is driving slow and your kids does something to frustrate or when you have a bad day at work or your atv is tuned to perfection just take a deep breath and realize you really dont have it all that bad.

Actually, the United States is exceedingly difficult to remain in permanently if you are an immigrant. True, provided you meet certain criteria, you can get a green/work card/visa for a set period of time. However, actual citizenship is another story.

If you as an immigrant take the time to jump through all the hoops to become a citizen, you definitely have a strong desire to remain. I agree that in many instances the work visa is to easily handed out; however, when you've got what we have to offer, you can expect a huge influx of of immigration.

As far as closing the borders goes, forget it. Leaving them open is far too profitable. Cheap labor, cheap material, vast caches of natural resources..etc.  Open trade with other countries (even 3rd world) is huge business in America.

If you don't like the current polices on welfare, support, affirmative action, etc... just wait. I mean, what do you expect after 8 years of the most (srguably) liberal presidency to date. Things are getting better albeit slowly.

As far as setting rules and establishing a mandatory national language, forget it. It doesn't make economic sense. Do I personally think it would be nice to have the ability to communicate readily with everyone taking up residency in the USA? You bet. Will it ever hapen? I'm not holding my breath.

Currently, it is harder than ever to get into and remain in this county (legally). Our INS service is stretched to its limit and is without the ability to do more. Regardless, we still enjoy a level of wealth and comfortable living unequaled anywhere in the world.

Now, thinking more locally, there are two ways to look at the rapid influx of people into this state. One, you can gripe and complain about it. Yell about how everyone is developing all the land in Florida and that everything is getting crowded, etc.

Or, two, you can take advantage of the influx and realize what a giant opportunity to make a great living it offers. Population increase is big business. realize you're not going to stop it and make th most of it.

Finally, Cain, to be honest I really hadn't noticed you'd posted in here. I just read the posts and paid little attention to the names. As far as your posts drawing me in....? Come on, you're not really that vain are you?  (That's sarcasm too) I wasn't diagnosing any phobias, just making light of an interesting discussion.  Now, that being said, lets all get back to patroling the border.
