Firearm question?

Can you ship a firearm by UPS or USPS or does it have to be sent from one gun shop to another and then picked up? Thanks

Another questions is can you ship the parts in two different boxes or do you need to sent parts the same way?

You can send parts USPS, UPS, Fedex anything you want because they are just parts and nothing without the "receiver"

There is a fine line on whats allowed by USPS.  I will locate an old posting from a firearms website, when I find it.  It explains alot. Are you shipping for repairs or (sights, refinishing) or for a sale?  Does the destination hold a FFL?

I kind of figured that you couldn't disassemble the weapon & send it out in separate boxes a few days apart. I'm sure there is a legal charge for that.

An individual can ship a firearm out of state as long as it's shipped to an FFL. I've bought guns off of gunbroker.com that were shipped to my FFL from a non-FFL.

Not 100% true.  There no federal law thats say you have to ship it overnight, its a Fed Ex and ups policy.

With a copy of your D/L , if its FFL to FFL its not need.

CEC,  BTW, it can sometimes be cheaper to use a FFL with their fees and USPS, than to pay overnight costs with Fedx or USP.
Something you may want to research.  Go to gunbroker.com and you can use their FFL locator, to find one in your area, contact him and see.

Just want to clear that Sir, so read between the lines. I use UPS ground all the time, if they do not ask I'm not telling them what in the package. Also if you use Fed ex or UPS you have to go to a main hub, not the local UPS store. thats if you want them to know its a firearm

And if you dont declare thats its a firearm, and something happens, you sir, will be liable for the problems.  No coverage, if loss or stolen.  Gun stolen and used in a crime, etc.  The list of Murphy's law goes on.
Thats why they (FedX, UPS) require you declare its a firearm, and ship via overnight, by their rules.  The reason they want it at a hub, instead of driver pickups! 
FIREARMS!  Too much can go wrong.  Thats why there are ATF rules regarding shipping of firearms.  So yes, you can do it the way you do it (ground, undeclared).  But its not the right way.
I would expect more from someone with your firearm knowledge and licences. You have alot to lose if something went wrong.  Regarding firearms, the right way is to avoid the gray areas.  And everyone one wonders why, legals want more control.
