All riders of ATV's need to get hold of the Florida Greenways and trails and insist that they open the pit and turn it over to the forestry dept so that they can use it for ATV's. This pit is great for aggressive atv riding and can be attached to the existing forestry atv trails. This pit will not cause any damage to the forest because it has has already been dug out when they built the dam and can not be restored. It has places for climbing and just being aggressive with your atv's thus helping save the forest. The forestry dept has already completed studies on the cost to open the pit for this purpose but the state closed it down.
It is great to go to Ocala to ride the trails, but riders need a place to ride aggressively and have fun without hurting the forest and this pit is just the right place. It is already there and all damage has been done.
The state needs to hear from all OHV riders.
This pit was already being used by OHV's when the state closed the gate. Even jeeps were using it for climbing. This is just what the forestry dept needs to go along with their trail system to help save the forest and give OHV'ers a place to play.     Let voice be heard about the Eurika Borrow pit. Any suggestions on how to get this reopened?

Are you talking about the one across the street from ONF on the dead end road next to the county gravel pit (near the river/bridge) ? If so, yes, it was fun to ride. But you had to cross a paved road to get to the forest. I'd love to see it open again, but doubt it will happen. Too many idiots racing on the road and riding inthe county pit illegally.

Yeah we used to ride in there years and years ago. Probably been about 5 or so now. That place was really fun. Big open pit surrounded by trails. We used to park at rodman and ride right into that first pit. Then go through the trails and pop out at that long gravel road. Play in the pit then hit MOB on the gps and just ride.

Opening this would be a great idea. Nice place to test your bike and let off some steam. Good point about it possibly cutting down on trail abuse. It  might also attract more would be riders to the area that wouldnt come otherwise just to ride trails.

I have found a State Senator that may help us atv riders. I've been told he would put his people on researching
the Eurika borrow pit and the phase II OHV trails in Ocala Florida. He said he would get back to me when he had an answer.
Let you know more at a later date
