When you say that, "years ago, we used be able to ride anywhere", please keep in mind that SFL's population has exploded since those days. And, years ago, it wasn't any wiser to smoke cigarettes just cause people did it. They now know better, so, less people are smoking cigarettes in the U.S. these days.

The solution is easy. Provide us with a legal place to ride in South Florida, similar to CROOM, and I will be glad to pay a fee, maintain the facility, and abide by the laws governing such facility. So where is it? The registration money that I paid for my bike along with my taxes is being used in the fight against Smoking? WTF are you talking about.

Yes, that is correct, the population has grown. With it so have the amount of cars on the road, and I dont see the government demanding that we carpool?

If we stop riding illigally what have we gained? Nothing... I don't know about you guys, but the places I ride, the problem is the guys riding on the road. FWC and MDPD come down sometimes and give the guys a slap on the hand that are riding on the road. The last MDPD officer down there was BS'ing with us asking about the conditions back there because he was going to ride tommorow on his day off. The last FWC officer asked us to look out for any bad activity...

Sorry for the poor analogy. My point was that just because there was little or no enforcement of trespassing laws many years ago and just because more people were smoking doesn't mean that trespassing/smoking is the right thing to do. I support any legal riding place we can get. If I still believe that trespassing would help us, I'd do it. ATVers are clearly out-numbered by the public naysayers and lawlessness(granting the fun it is) only recruits more to their side.

The tax money collected on ATV sales is just tax money...that's it. They can use it however they see fit provided it fits under the designating laws establishing the same.
Also, what incentive do they have to create a place to ride for us? It's not likely to be a large profit source for any government entity and, the poor press we constantly give ourselves means the general public is bound to fight it.
jrpro- What we have to gain by not riding illegally is preventing more people from thinking poorly of us if and when the opportunity for a new, legal ride area presents itself. Now, the FWC and other L.E. agencies have nothing but a bad taste in their mouths for us and are definitely NOT going to go to bat for us on a legal ride area issue.
I find it funny and sad when I read threads like this one. Everyone wants to complain and rant about not having a place to ride. But, when I go to these ORV meetings around the state (both at the Federal and State levels) none of you show up. The Jeep clubs, Swamp Buggy guys, mountain bikers and environmental wackos are all there in force. They're all well organized, well spoken and their opinions are well respected. Meanwhile, the ATV crowd is basically silent.
We do nothing for ourselves and our image. We schedule a clean up ride some place from time to time. Big deal. Trust me, nobody cares that a few people did a clean up ride to pick up garbage we likely left ourselves in the first place. Everyone knows it's just an excuse to ride. Instead, we constantly ride illegally. We break the rules in legal areas to ride. We are never organized and, when we do get in front of a camera, it always seems to be that the dumbest person in the crowd attempts to speak for us.
I am sorry but, it's the truth. We do nothing for ourselves but complain. Even when we get a legal place to ride, all we do is complain that it's too small, too bumpy, too far, etc... Look at the past 10 years. It's accomplished nothing. AintSkeerd is right. lawlessness only recruits more against us. Sadly, we bring it on ourselves.

You hit it on the head. Our lack of organization is our downfall. I think it's possible to project a good group image but, everyone (or at least a large majority) has to be on board.

New Hampshire has a yearly registration for ATV/Dirt bike and Snowmobile.
Instate club member
Instate non-club member
Out of state club member
Out of state Non club member
This generates big bucks for the state. They have tons of trails to ride. There are more miles of trails then there are roads in that state. All the trails are marked with signs for directions to land marks i.e. mountains, lakes, rivers and also marked for gas stations restaurants etc. They sell state trail maps in the gas stations!!! Lots of the trails cut thru private land. Some of the land owners will only have their section of trails open in the winter months for the obvious reason of less land damage from snowmobiles. They cable the trails off and mark them accordingly. But that’s only a small portion.
Florida is so large it's hard for anyone to enjoy the few national parks we have open to ATV's I takes me
HOURS
to get to any of them. Your other option is heading to the local MX track and pay their fees to ride in a circle for a few hours… Fun but costly and let’s be honest, trails are more fun… Growing up in New Hampshire I would walk out in the back yard kick over the dirt bike and ride out... No trailers... No traveling... I would mow the grass on Saturday morning and Dad would fill my tank for the weekend (back when gas was a buck!!!). I’d be gone all day riding from town to town.
Honestly I would like to move back… If it wasn’t for the housing market keeping me from selling my house and not taking a loss and the unemployment rate keeping me from finding a job back north, I’d be gone yesterday.
Florida is to hot in the summer, to flat for a good view, and full of A$$holes, crooks, and thieves… Obviously this is a blanket statement and not everyone falls into those categories…
We wave at our neighbors or cars passing by the house back home… We leave our houses unlocked and the keys in the car… I guess it’s northern hospitality (I've yet to see this "Southern Hospitality" they talk about)… There is less trash, less crime and your don’t have to be afraid to let your kids play outside… (Have you ever searched Child molesters in your neighborhood?)
I guess when you had it so good and now have it so bad now it really sways you from wanting to get involved… How good will it get and is the fight worth it? I bet it’ll be cheaper just to move… Sad but true.

Only 7 states have a higher population per sq. mi. than Florida and New Hampshire has less than half of Florida's population per sq. mi.. And, I doubt that New Hampshire has anywhere near the number of visitors to their state, their parks and their forests.

And your point?
They still have a trail system that would make you squirt. I'm talking if you wanted to ride to Canada you can, If you want to ride to Maine... You can do that too... Feel like hitting up Vermont? Sure.... Why not?
Just buy a sticker.

More people, more population growth means that there needs to be more provisions for the public, hence after all we are paying for it with our registrations and tax money. Did the government not build more roads due to a growth in population/Cars on the road? Well we are not asking for much, just take our money and give us a site we can call our own. Charge an admission cost, and use that money to maintain the facility. It does not have to be the size of New Hampshire, just big enough for us to enjoy and feel free!!!!! as we ride our bikes.

And unfortunately, that will never happen. I will help in any way possible, I am a very professional person and project myself in a positive way. Please PM me when you need help with anything political, I'll do my best to make it.
What we really need to do is start having functions with ATV riders around different places.
More events like the "ATV ralley" at L-Cross...
More news coveragte of POSITIVE events
Self enforcement of others...
It's just that the people that ride ATV's are not generally the best group of people...I mean half the guys I see out there don't seem like they care about supporting atv events, they just want to ride.
Even the trucks keep it organized...I mean I will never turn in my atv for a truck, but these guys have their stuff together. Tons of positive events and such...
We need a MOTOPLEX down south and I am willing to help in ANY WAY POSSIBLE. I can get my work (ambulance service) to do standby EMS, anything you guys would ever need. I can volunteer any weekend work, etc etc.
I have some great ideas, just no support behind them.
Anorigional, PM me and we can talk further on this. I want to set up something...

The yearly registrations are the only fees you pay. The one time registration that Florida charges isn't going to pay for sh*t. The Stickers you buy in NH is just like registering your car.
This is ATV and Trail bike
http://www.nhtrails.org/uploads/2009ATVtrailBikeTrails.pdf
Registration Fees
http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/OHRV/2009_OHRV_Laws_Digest.pdf
New Hampshire Fish and Game
http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/OHRV/ohrv.htm
My point is....
If a state as small an NH can have a killer trail system 4 seasons of the year and rake in tons of money while doing it, WTF is Florida waiting for?
The registration would cover all parks. You wouldn't have to have a sticker for Croom and one for the ONF or any of them...
For those of you so up on all the meetings and legislation, where can I forward these links to? Maybe if you toss these kind of numbers on someone’s plate and they can see how profitable it is for a state to have OHRV's, more areas will open... Let’s face it, money is what makes things happen, not just showing up and asking "please".

Well then, once you leave I guess it'll be one less for the rest of us to deal with.
Funny, but it always seems so many people are eager to move here and then complain when they can't make it. In reality, it is a great place to live with great people to boot. Some areas are bad but, you get that in any state. Sure, the overall Florida housing market is in the tank but, it's a great chance to make a lot of money if you know what you're doing. It's all in how you approach things I suppose.
Where I live, its beautiful. I've got an excellent waterfront view. My neighbors are great. Not any child molesters close by. Trash gets picked up twice a week and there's not any to speak of anywhere else. I've got tons of places to ride anytime I want. The people around here are great and very friendly. There's bad areas but, I just stay out of them. Southern hospitality reigns around my area. Probably because it's not forgotten on transients who've moved here from elsewhere over the years. The local economy is doing pretty well and the housing market is on the rebound. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
I certainly don't spend my time complaining about how good it is somewhere else. If I thought another place was better for me and my family...I'd shut up about it and move on.

Aw poor wittle guy. Is him too hot? Is it to hard here in mean old Florida for him to make it? Him got no place to ride and his neighbors mean to him?
If you're so in love with another place, why stay here? Seriously. I'm an a$$hole because I point out your whining and complaining? Be a man and just leave instead of crying like a child.
Poor thing.
You're the one who started complaining and crying. Don't get bent out of shape and name call just because someone presents you with the most obvious solution. Like I said, if some other place was so great to me...I'd be headed for that place and never look back. Man up and go. Why waste another day in this vile and inhospitable state?
