Looking for input from the bike guys....

At Saturdays race David Coon had an old bike that he'd pieced together from some junk bikes. It was a very cool bike and I think he said he had about $100 in it. After seeing Coons bike, RD said he was going to put something together from some junk bikes at his house. This got me to thinking about a "Rat" class for the bikes. A class that would be cheap and fun. Any thoughts?

As a sidenote: I'm sure this class would be overflowing with Yamaha's since the salvage yards are slap full of broke down and non-running Yammi's.  Grin

I just happen to know where a couple of Kawasuki's are that the guy is wanting to give away!
Those Yamaha's you speak of, must of had a major crash and bent something. You can just about run them on beer, not that I would waste good beer that way!  Grin
Any limit to size? Maybe a 125cc 2 smoke size and a 250cc 4 stroke limit?

You trying to make a point Mr. Windsor    ....side note my a$$.

Nate & Chuck would kick butt in this class (no offense).....he might be disqualified for being over budget......I think Nate said he had $400 invested in his ride. He'll correct me when he sees this. Sounds like fun like the UTV's are.  Am jealous of the UTV's.....they get to listen to tunes while they race.

Lets see....
*Ward Jones- no racey- worky on Yamaha
*Dave Ware- first race in more than 6 months- surprise, surprise, he had a broken Yamaha
*Wayne & Jody- no racey- motors out of Yamaha's
*Rick Dugan- not raced in a year- yep, you guessed it, a Yamaha
I have a bunch more but I don't want to be typing all night..... Shocked

And then there's me.....
*Brady- raced all season on his little 'ol stock Honda 250R, half of it with a blown head gasket. Grin

I have been thinking some more about it and the easiest way to keep everyone "honest" would be to make it a
"Claimer" class similar to what stock car tracks do with the bomber cars.

The simple version is to make the bikes not to exceed something like $500 in value. If you have a guy who is obviously not within the class (a hot rod motor for example), then you can "claim" his bike and buy it on the spot for the $500. If he refuses then he's DQ'd.

Whaddya think?

The plus side is the class should be full of Yamaha's since them guys will freakin happy as he!! for the oppurtunity to be able to sell one of them things for $500....LOL

well no offence ward i think me and chuck have about  6 or 7 hundred in both bikes combined! and we have three more engines and another roller if someone wants to ride a cheap bike! sure hope we can get enough bikes showing up to change the class structure to cc limits someday.

I found this pic of you waiting for the little short school bus back in the day. You've lost a few pounds since then, but the face still looks exactly the same

I KNOW Quad32 has LOTS more pictures of Dave in his younger days.....

OK you guys are having way too much fun here so it's time for me to jump on the Brady bashing band wagon. Those 2 pictures and comments that go with them are absolutely hilarious.

Now if I recount my memory correctly the last time Brady was riding the Honda hard enough to keep up with the regulars from the Vet class he was battling with some dork on a Yellow/Blk Anniversary edition Yamaha at the back of the pack. The dork passed Brady on the outside in turn 2 and Brady got real nervous and tried to keep up and when he got on the gas a little to hard, yep you guessed it he was scoring 10 points in the Big Boy Belly Flop Olympics, after he laid on the track for awhile and most of his posse came to check on him, he rode back to the pits in the Rhino and proceded to get his Kawasaki out but if I remember correctly that Kawasaki was in the same state of affairs as it is now (not running).

Yamaha's rule and Kawasaki's drool.

Fact:
My 2005 yz450 2 wheeler has never even had the valves checked.

The Yamaha guys just can't help but to gang up on me. Buncha dam haters! Huh.....It's very sad really..... Cry
And picking on my poor little Honda is just shameful! A stock, 22 year old, 250cc quad gets beat up on by the new "big & bad" 450's. You guys have twice the motor I got!!! Keep it up and I'm going to get an aftermarket pipe and port my cylinder! Then we'll see!.....

I'm not so sure a couple of them Yamahas didn't box me in and cause me to crash on purpose.... I think that "dork" on that yellow YFZ hit me and took me out..... Not really sure if its because I'm so good looking or because of my mad skillz. The whole thing just seems fishy to me....... Sad

And leave the Kawasaki out of it. It's a known fact that when you walk into the dealership, you have to take a very stringent "man test" to even be considered to own a Kawi. If you fail this test, as most do, you are not allowed to even look at the Kawasaki's and are immediately directed to the Yamaha products. And for your info, Kawi's don't "break down", they "rest until they're needed".

......now go check the valves in that Yamajunk before it scatters all over the track.

Its very obvious they're just jealous. I mean c'mon, two of have mentioned my super fly plaid pants!

Maybe I should be concerned that two grown men are STILL talking and worrying about my plaid pants? Especially since I haven't worn them in over 4 months?

Brady,

I've sat here and tried to think of a way to come to your aid... but you just make it to easy to dis-like you man!

You want statistics? Here ya go!

Open Class 2008 Results
1. Yamaha - ("hi-tech new 4 stroke")
2. Yamaha - ditto
3. Yamaha - some of the same!

Vet Class
1. Yamaha - (rocket ship 4 stroke technology)
2. Yamaha - (another ol "stock" two stroke)
3. Honda/Kawasaki - Yeah this just happens to be Brady... but that stock ol honda is actually a Tori/ATP/Mystic "built" motor (pffft - those are all the names of different mechanics it's taken to work on keeping it running), with an aluminum frame, pro-trax front end, top end PEP suspension, and about the best money can buy of everthing on it... and it still finished 3rd... shows those skillz. Then the Kawasaki which was built by K&K after an 18 month hiatus finished at the top of the podium its first 2 times out, and was then "stored" away... still running great I might add, which did the majority of the point collecting to help that Honda look good. To quote Ryland... "Daddy why are you riding the black bike when you win on the green one?"

That being said you want to bash the Yamahas that are doing their off season maintenance to get ready for the race season?! C'mon man! I can't just let that slide! We'll se what happens when the racing starts counting for something... you... you... hater!

P.S. please keep the Homo internet porn to yourself.

I was actually out talking to our local Yamaha dealer. He wants a bigger driveway built to his new service facility he's having built. I guess the 10 bays he has now isn't enough?......

P.S. please keep the Homo internet porn to yourself.

Well well.... aren't we quite the statistician Mr. Hopkins! Did you write all that yourself, or did a bunch of you guys get together after needlepoint class and compare notes?

And, Mr McNary I think I will reply since Jody's "facts" are obviously very skewed.

OK, lets just take a closer look at "your" statistics.....

The Open class... Yamaha's 1st, 2nd, & 3rd. What an accomplishment! Wait a minute....oh yeah...... that's right.....the entire class is YFZ's (and a broke down Banshee).... How proud you still must be though! Great Job!  Cool

The Vet class... Yes a YFZ won the class. I don't deny that. Dale made every race and was very consistent, which is very commendable. I heard his engine builder used a Honda piston in his motor, which I'm sure contributed to it not going boom and becoming several various sized paperweights. Remember, the two strokes only ran HALF the races and STILL finished 2nd and 3rd. That's right... skillz. Cool
You are correct by saying the Kawi won its first times out. K & K has got that thing running perfect. I only parked it so the other riders in the class would not get discouraged. Grin
I think you made most of that stuff about my Honda up. That doesn't sound anything like my bike? As for the Torri/ATP/Mystic comment... Torri is who I bought it from. ATP fixed the tranny for Dave B. way back when, and Mystic built the motor OVER A YEAR AGO. Get it right Kansas City.

Good call on the Ryland quote! He totally did say that! I sold him on ebay shortly after.....

Points huh?....Yes.... we will see Mr Hopkins... we will see.... Wink

ps- stay off the computer and get back to polishing Waynes bike.   Shocked

OK, I guessed I've bashed on the Yamaha's enough and totally derailed this thread.

Lets get back on track before someone takes all this seriously and gets hurt feelings.

If anyone has any more thoughts or suggestions on the Rat class let 'em fly.

reasonable cc limits?

someone suggested a little different scenario for the "claimer". Instead of straight money, make it a trade & money.
may make it more interesting?

I have actually had a lot of interest in this class. I may even build one if I can find me an old bike for cheap (or free LOL)

Cool i think it should be 125cc to 360 cc limit air cooled motors with a claimer of some sort. or no claimer with 100% class payback three positons.   Huh
