my buddys brute isnt workin and we cant figure out why.  he hit 56mph and it cut off and now he cant go past 11 without it cutting off we took the belt off and it looks fine. any ideas?

um idk there on a riding trip right now so i cant ask him  but he didnt tell me it was he said it just shuts off

Is it reving out and only hitting 11 mph?  If it's reving out, your clutch may be toast and slipping.

If it's not reving out at all, yu may have a problem with your electronic control module limiting it.

Is it making any strange noises?

Try these in neutral too.

This may be an outside shot because I don't know the full capability of the computers on these ATVs.  However, in a lot of computerized engines, if there is a drop in oil pressure, the engine is automatically ramped down or even shut off to avoid catastrophic damage.  The question above is the first thing you need to find out (is the engine revving high and the quad's not moving).  If the engine is just not running any faster, check the oil.

some how the belt slipped and had to be reset but they got it fixed thanks yall

For future reference, I think kawasaki builds in a thing called limp mode or something to their cvt's. I dont know if the brutes have it but my new prarie does. Ofcourse, the guy we bought it from ripped all the sensors like that out so mine wont do it but your buddys might have done that becuase it senses that the belt is wore out and it keeps it bumped down so it can get you home. Might wanna make sure that didnt cause the problem because if he has this on there, it will just keep happening again.

Hi guys, I just got back from riding with him. For future reference if anyone needs to do this:
 
The bike backfired and cut out while racing (if you can call it that) a 450R. His g/f thought that the brute would keep up with me and while she was trying to run me down it got screwed up. It was running but it would only go 11mph. It wasnt revving out all the way, just like it would when it was going 11 on a normal day. So, after searching online with a friggin phone (not a very easy ting to do) we found a cure. Something tripped a sensor that is a belt warning sensor. The belt light was blinking. So, theres two 4 pin plugs under the seat, one black, one gray. Theyre the 2 rear most on his 650i. It said to turn ignition off, switch the plugs around (black with gray and vice verse). Then turn the ignition on. NOT THE MOTOR THOUGH). Then theres a 2 plug connector coming from the belt cover thing. Unplug that and the light will start blinking slower. Let it blink slower for at least 5 seconds (more is ok). Then turn ignition off and plug the 2 pin connector back in and switch the plugs back (black to black etc.). Turn ignition on and the light should be gone and the bike should operate correctly. It also said to check the belt and clutch for wear/damage when this happens. We did this and it appeared fine and everything. Belt looked perfect. Clutch ok, nothing stuck in it. So, if this happens to someone, this is what you do. Later.

haha yea that was my bike why she thought she could beat your 450r i still dont know but yea its an easy fix
