UTVs and Corbett

Any of you UTV's guys ride in Corbett lately. I went last week to check it out in my 4*4 and the trails are kinda dry in some areas. The guy at the gate stated as long as it 60 wheelbase its fine. Dont want to drag the RZR down there and get hassled by the FWC

UTVs / side by side like the ranger are aloud in corbett but not 4 wheelers has to be 60' or greater front to rear wheel base but if you go get a rule book at the front gate and make sure read it also NO!!!! Beer Three $$ per head per day

i heard from a fwc officer they are going end the use of utvs at corbet because every body is making new trails because they cant run the deep water on the trails already there.and  alot of people are going way to fast on the main grade and the trails.it kinda sucks i was going to sell my buggy and get one,but not now

Let's all run out and buy old Samurais, Jeeps, etc. to ride the deep water in places like Big Cypress, Corbett, Holeylands and other areas where they allow vehicles with 60" wheelbases.

Yea when I'm out in the depths of Corbett inching my way slow with my Rhino's trying to avoid getting swallowed up my a monster sucker hole.......................... A 20' tall buggy with 88" tires and a 800 hp jet engine on 20 ton axles goes flying by & swamps me as he tears through the wetlands and plows the palmettos. As I swim to shore to radio for Swamp Tow all is quiet as if it were a bad dream and it never happened.Except I'm soaked and all I see is the top of my roll bar sticking up out of the water in the hole I was going so pain stinkingly slow to avoid......Yep those UTV's are a problem.

i guess what he meant was look at holy lands and look at corbet.now that hunting season is over in 2 months the place will look fine again.constant use of utvs will just make it another holy lands.and i would rather have them not allow utvs out there then have it treashed like holy lands. buggys have bin out there for 50 years and everything is fine. a couple years of utvs and i see bad things coming.its a good hunting area and i hope it stays that way.not turn into a play ground.

I respectfully disagree with your opinion! These are public lands which all people should be able to enjoy. Hunters only use the land for a few months out of the year. Tree huggers, butterfly watchers, Ottis Toole-types get it the rest of the year. There are already millions of acres of public lands to share. We can share it smarter. Otherwise, it won't be long before ATVers finally figure-out that it's far less expensive to go out and buy old buggies, Jeeps, Samurais, trucks and other 4x4 vehicles to ride in places like Corbett. New ATVs/Ute are well over $10K now and my Zook cost me $1K. Big Cypress is an example of how public lands can be managed by limiting annual permits to 2000, designating the trails, requiring ORV licenses/vehicle permits/vehicle inspections and requiring you to submit a backcountry pass(flight plan) everytime you go out there(so they know where to find you or have some idea on who's causing any damage). NPS strictly enforces all of the rules with officers on ATVs. Just this past weekend, the Jeep Club was out at Corbett.

big cypress is a joke now with the limitation of trails. the  jeep boys stay on the trails in corbet ,and i have had to pull many of them out when the go under water with there big 33 inch tires     :Dlol.the problem is these places are W.M.A wildlife management area. a.k.a hunting area Not ORV parks .look at holy lands the place got beat down to nothing the hunting sucked and they closed it to joy riding.as soon as the corbett area starts to get affected they will do the same thing.i have two 4x4 atvs and live 2 blocks form corbett,but im glad they dont allow them in there.its a hunting area not a play ground.

same with Three Lakes. used to be able to ride in there and now it is restricted to the roads. dam 20% are f-ing it up all over.

So, there you have it boys and girls. ATVers don't want to stay on designated trails, but, Jeepers do. There'll be no cooperation and no negotiation on the use of public lands. WMAs are just publicly-funded wildlife farms for the privileged few to shoot 'em all up. So, now everyone will just have to grab your weapons, permits and run out to buy old 4x4 vehicles/buggies so you can just pretend to hunt. Is that right? I most-certainly don't want us to piss-off or alienate any hunters by any stretch. But, let me give you an example of how ATVers could actually help hunters. Take for example, the Francis F. Taylor/Holeylands/Rottenberger WMAs. These three WMAs are connected to each other for prolly 200,000 acres. You mean to tell me that hunters can't spare to share just the smallest portion of that 200,00 acres(Holeylands) when the hunting season is over? Designated trails could easily be setup with inexpensive plastic stakes like at Big Cypress. ATVers would have to purchase an annual user's permit to pay for those plastic stakes and help support FWC enforcement. As far as the 20% of ATV morons goes, just read the FWC website for a glimpse at the hunters/boaters/fisherman's 20%.  http://www.myfwc.com/ezine/FWC-411/2008/12_DecJan.htm
