I already own a 2005 pred 500. It has some tasetfull upgrades and has been a great quad. I was just wondering how it would compare to a 450 quad such as a yfz, ltr, or trx??? Are these 450's much faster?? Do they handle better?? Every where i look all i hear is how fast these quads are. I am considering selling the pred to buy one of these.. Any input would be GREATT... Thanks..

I have never ridden a predator but I have had a few yfz450 quads and they are a bad a$$ track quad where as (I might catch some heat for this) I think the predator would seem more of a trail machine. But I now own a honda 450R and love the heck out of it, so I guess it would depend on what kind of riding you do the most. Good luck with whatever you end up with.

You're asking a question about quads? What kind of a sick twisted person are you? Is that supposed to be some kind of hidden attack on Bush?

Seriously though, I've ridden a couple of Predators and happen to like them. The ones I rode had minor upgrades ,but even so they were pretty quick. They both seemed to have really close gear patterns and it seemed like it was easy to miss a gear at times compared to my DS and a friends Raptor that rode with us at the time. I never rode the YFZ 450 but I heard the same thing about them. Check online for the results to some magazine shootouts instead of solely going off of others opinions if you're seriously thinking about buying one. That way you are sure not to get a biased opinion.

The first one was my weak attempt at humor. I was just making light of all the political threads that have started again. It's refreshing to see a post about riding ATVs again. I almost forgot what the theme of the site was. Thanks. Do you ever have a problem missing gears on your Predator? I'm guessing it was just the year "2003 I think" or maybe operator error. Oh yeah, welcome to the site.

honestly by going 450, the power increase is minimal... They are just purpose built race bikes.. I have a couple friends with 450's and for the most part out of 4 guys only 1 can pull a bike or two on my raptor... I have never rode a predator but my buddy used to have one and it seemed to be pretty quick.. It's probably not worth the switch unless you are going to get serious into racing. Trust me, you sacrifice so many creature comforts when on a 450...

haha.. yea i knew it was some kind of humor..I am not on the site enough to see all the political Threads. If i was,the joke probably would have made sense.Yea, the problems with the pred tranny were in 2003. Plus the 2005 has reverse..its just that the 450's look really nice...I guess i wil end up keeping the pred...it has been maintained by me and it not let me down once.

If your happy with the pred keep it. But 450's are pretty fast and yes they do handle better. Anyways I know my LT-R does.

Go withn the 450. Take a look around, how many YFZs do you see over Preditors. That right there should tell you something.

I had owned a 2004 didn't like it much sits too high and is squirley at high speeds. I however do love my 06 YFZ and wouldn't ride anything else but a YFZ ! Just my opinion though !

true but its mostly because to many people are"monkey see monkey do kinda people" i have a pred and i can pull on a 450 easy unless they have engine modifications, but back to the point if you have already owned a predator and your thinkibng about switching do it, try something new. if you ask a question like that everybody has there own opinion and most likely there going to say that the brand of quad they have is the best.

IMO the Preditor isn't even in the same class as any 450. If it was you would see it at the races. You see maybe 1 or 2 at the national events and it isn't being ridden by a pro.

I never really liked polaris. And the yfz is pretty bad @ss. You may want to look at other bikes like the ktm or the ds450s. I'm a suzuki guy all the way, but some of those other companies have caught my attention.

Stay far far far away from the DS450 quads. Just ask Chris Jenks and Chris Bithell!!!

I'm watching a race right now and they seem to be doing ok. Heck, Akraix freestyle made a record jump on a mostly stock ds450.

I have had several predators and like them all. However if your gonna ride motocross then dont ride the pred. They have tons of power, but are way to nose heavy.I would ride my 250r or Cannondale 450 at the track. If you want a good all around bike then the pred will fill your needs, and regardless of what most people think, you will not get left in the dirt by the common 450's. You could always go with the outlaw 450/500.I have a 525 IrS model and it is realy nice in the trails.

Look at any racing series and you will see a big DNF next to alot of the dS450s.
