friend is considering buying this truck.

http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/dda/detail.jsp?ct=u&rdpage=thumb&car_id=250549219&dealer_id=48567585&car_year=2000&dealership_view_name=nationstrucksuvcenter&model=F150PICKUP&make2=&start_year=1981&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&engine=&result_car_id=null&fuel=&search_type=both&suppressStyle=null&make=FORD&keywords_display=&color=&min_price=&drive=&default_sort=&max_mileage=&sort_type=priceDESC&advanced=&end_year=2009&doors=&transmission=&max_price=&cardist=0

i think its pretty ugly. what do you think?
also what kind of performance should we expect, faster then a 3.0 ranger or no?

Those truck chew up ball joints. The upper comes as a complete control arm with the ball joint. The lowers are sold separately. Tell him to make sure the are all tight. Maybe as part of the deal he can get them to install new ones, so he starts off fresh. They are also notorious for going through coils. It has the L motor which is a 5.4L non flex fuel. Overall I would say it's a decent truck.

Nice truck. As long as your OK with paying for fuel. I would also prefer a 4 door. Later on you'll end up wishing you had more room. I would definately try to talk the price down if he won't do some preventive maintenance to it first.

They sure did list all the possible options.  Almost enough options to justify the price!!

but then you go to a 5 foot bed. wtf is the point of having a truck then? if you need room, buy a SUV. the only way to get room and real bed is a F250.

It depends on what purpose you need it for. As long as I can fit my quad in the back, I'm happy. I like having the room inside. I did have a 99 Tahoe and I would trailer my quad.

we had a 150 supercrew i hated it i had to stand my 400ex up over the tailgate to put it in the bed w/ the gate shut to pull my trailer hated it we had the 250 crew w/ the 8ft bed and it was awesome even got it drifting a few times on concrete and it would kill any gas truck mpg power and acceleration it was stock 4wd on 33x1250 and still raped a 2wd 150 4.6 and a 99 sierra z71 and a dakota w/ the 318 as you can tell i love the superduties lol

the only reason hes buying the truck is becasue he is stuck on the fact that it has 37s and after driving a ranger and every one making fun of him ove rit he thinks hes going to regain his man points back with the bigest truck, doesnt mater if the truck does anything well, as long as its big i guess is what he sees in the truck. overall i think it will be an ok truck, but for 11k (i know ill take crap for this) you can get 10x more truck from a chevy... i mean, 5.4 vs an ls based engine, if i even have to explain the difference you just dont get it...

an ls engine is a 5.7 right so unless he got a 98 or older i dont think any 5.7 where availible 99 and on but yea im not here to debate brands your right 11k is high for that truck in my opinion look around you can get a 3/4 ton diesel that will get better mpg performance and resale value for around that or a newer gasser i found an 04 nbs F150 on 37's w/ 47k miles for 8k on craigslist no it wasnt one of the spammers it was located in orlando but yea thats just an example of patience and a good deal it may still be availible it was only like a week or two ago

your thinking of 2 totaly different engines lol. an ls based engine would be the 5.3 and the 6.0 which was the same motor in the base corvets, the ls based motors came from the ls1 which was 5.7 liters, but the 5.7 your thinking of that was offered int rucks is the old 350 liek what i have, not an ls based engine, just an old school small block chevy. ford gives you a "truck" motor, chevy gives you an engine that the performance world revolves around...

dont get me wrong, the obs fords aren't bad, and that 5.4 looks pretty good. i just look at it from a more technical view, not just "it looks purty, it must be good"...

the obs fords were more comparable (and pretty reliable trucks) becasue they had the basic 302 and 351, just like chevy just had the basic 350 and 305. but were fords standard in the f150 was the 302, chevys  half ton was the 350, were fords standard 3/4 ton motor was the 351, chevys was the 454. once the 5.4 triton came out, it was all down hill for ford...

if he wants big, he needs a crew cab diesel with the 8 foot bed on 40s. now, thats big. that lil f150 in the link aint too impressive. im not a fan of any fords that arent a 250 or up.

I got my 2001 4x4 Lariat Supercab for $6500 this last Summer. I'm not particularly a Ford fan but it was the best price. It has Flowmasters and oversized tires, but doesn't have 37's on it...... then again my wife also doesn't need a ladder to get into it either....  Wink

I'd say tell your friend to bargain hard on the price and get it down to a more reasonable figure!

I'd get a 4.0 ranger...but I'm kinda partial.

It's a little faster than the 3.0, but not much.  It looks kinda beat...

the ranger was a pretty pathetic truck, getting to 60mph on the highway takes all day, you can mash the gas to the floor and you wont move an inch back into the seat. its a good fuel saver truck(not even at only 16mpg that a new fullsize chevy can get), or cheap work truck, its just not the kind of truck he was after.

he got the truck of about 9 or 10 i think and got 4k for the ranger... i wouldn't have went for it, but hes happy, and its his truck, not mine...
