Hi Guys, Took a trip in February (I know, this is a little dated) out to Glamis, Ca - the sand dune capital of the US. Got there on a Wednesday and practically had the place to myself. On Saturday I had a few thousand competitors.... Most awesome place I've ever been on either two wheels or four wheels. The dunes reach out for 40 miles at the southern tip of California (close to Yuma, AR) and run into Mexico - no fence as of yet but starting to gain Border Patrol attention. Fees run around $25 for 3 days and $75 for seasonal pass. Area is about 115 miles due east of San Diego off I-8.

You can do it in three days but you'll be driving hard and straight - I hauled the Toyhauler to Glamis and it was a 5 day trip and you don't want to know how many gas stations we visited... I've also have ridden the dunes in Florence, OR - another great place to ride but not quite as awesome as Glamis. I would rate Pizmo Beach 3 of 3.

it would take a bunch of bike to fill a rig ... there is a guy out there that rents 450's with paddles! but its gona run you about $800 for a week ... its a little cheaper to freight you bike out there.

a group ride to Waynoka is a easy 2 day rough 1 day drive http://www.waynoka.com/littlesahara/cgi-bin/index.cgi

legal trails through town and houses for rent so it would just be dragging the bikes

I was born andraised in San Diego so Glamis used to be a weekly adventure for us in the 70's and 80's. Then when I got older and started driving we would go out there every few months in our trucks. I am dying to get back there again. As far as Wynoka Oklahoma and the Little Sahara sand dunes, I live about 6 to 8 hours from there so if anyone ever does a trip, let me know and I'll try and meet you on a Sunday or a Monday.

Hi Jaydog - I also was born in San Diego - way back in 1944 but I still enjoy a good ride in the dunes. Live in Florida now and with these damn gas prices not sure when I'll make it back to Glamis but for sure some day before I get old.....

Oh man those are some sweet pics! Makes me a little homesick too. I know what your saying about gas prices as well. All of my atv's and jet skii's have not been ridden nearly as much do to the cost to either go to the lake or the track. It sucks! I'm hoping to get back out to Cali within the next year and take the toys out their with me. If I do, Glamis will definitely be hit!

GAS PRICES ARE LOOKING GOOD which means another trip to Glamis is being planned for late February/early March. I estimate driving time to be around 4 days (each way). We'll spend a couple of days playing in the sand then head for Colfax (CA) where we'll hop a train for Reno - this is a 3 hour trip over the high Sierras, which in the winter is awesome.  A day or two in the casinos and then back to Colfax, back to Glamis for another day or so of riding then on to Oklahoma to team up with my brother & wife for some more riding on 7K acres of Weyhauser land. A couple days there and we'll head to Tennessee where I've got some property and my toyhauler on a mountain top. A week later we'll head back to Florida where once again the ole Griz will hibernate for the rest of the year while this old man recuperates.... Anyone interested in tagging along can email me (Mike) @ sandman144@earthlink.net.
